Our latest dig has officially begun and this one definitely feels like an expedition!

Midges in the morning, lots of preparation, a long hike to site and finally the digging gets underway.

We have already opened a few trenches, but it is tough work in this remote and rugged terrain. Watch along as we take you behind the scenes as the crew get stuck in and the first clues begin to emerge.

What will we find? The expedition has begun, and we are bringing you along for the journey!

Love the trowel microphone!

Cheers for the X Crew!!! Love the fluttering 'pennants' 4:33 😀

Bob and Mandy

I think X Crew digs might just be my favorite. The vibe is just very relaxed and warm (even when the environment isn't). Can't wait to see how this one unfolds! 😁

Mak Wilson

Jealous! Hope you get the chance to get to the Kielder Observatory one night…IF you get a clear night, that is. Best of luck for the rest of the dig!

Wessex-Wyvern

A good stiff breeze should help keep the midges away!

Felicity Fields

Yeah, the trowel microphone is adorable. :P

Alan McMillan

Talking into a troll is, a good idea?

Rick McMullen

I must have missed the memo. Why are you there? And per the comment from Mr. Macmillan, what are you hoping to find?

Christopher Samuel

Looking good! Reminds me of being up on top of Bannau Brycheiniog (the Brecon Beacons) back in my youth. I was curious though about the mention of lazy beds - I'd watched the previous chat between Lawrence and Stewart and I don't recall that being mentioned, was I just not paying enough attention? 😳

Lord John

Where is the Portaloo or just dig a hole?

Eggs Ackley

Did not see a Dig Dog either. Gotta have a Dig Dog! 🐕

Jo

A lazy bed?

Barb Wright

UPON A LAZY LABOUR DAY 'Twas late this morning I awoke from having a lie-in, When up there popped a notice - ding! From Time Team Patreon! The expedition crew was off To stump around in fields! Excitement grew as I watched more To see what they could yield. I sat upright! O irony! Cuz where I lay my head Was what I had until right then Just called my "lazy bed"!

Brian Fisher

What are those plots on the other side of the valley? Is Forestry England running some sort of experiment?

doublespiraller

So glad it's not me carrying a full set of tools while walking through tussock grass!

Lord John

Summer dwellings on a seasonal pasture high in the hills, associated with the transhumance system of agriculture.

Cathy

So excited to be here after just joining Time Team on Patreon. What an absolutely gorgeous setting for this dig, and I love the trowel mic!

Nicholas & Elizabeth Dyer

A good start, a fabulous use of a trowel. We look forward to seeing how the site develops. Good luck for the rest of the dig.

Rick Doner

Yes. That was a great idea lol

JUDITH COOKE

How exciting to wake up to this introduction to the Kielder dig. Definitely looks like you’re in a frontier environment. Have a wonderful time. Greetings from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺

Denis Oliver

Thank you for the update. I, also, like the trowel microphone.

Alan McMillan

Arthur? Bet he Wwannts to be real. But...

Nigel Sadler

The more bonkers the site, hopefully the more bonkers the finds!

Next bit of X Crew kit = a Boston Dynamics robotic dog towing a little two wheel trailer? :) Or a robotic mower towing a trailer - these are becoming more common. With some solar panels for charging in the field.

Aaron Martin

While climbing down the hill and the camera caught a wide pan of the valley and my jaw dropped. What a gorgous expanse of land!

Gloria B

What is the date of the mentioned zoom chat with Stewart? I’d like to watch it again, but can’t find it. Thanks.

Nikki

Excited to see Lawrence so excited! Thanks for bringing us along. Cant wait to see more!

Joe Keller

I love Time Team! 👍👍😊

Mer Joyce

And don't poke yourself!

Mer Joyce

Lovely to see Matt on site :)
