X Crew is assembling!

Time Team’s Expedition Crew have arrived at the lost settlement of Colour Clough near Kielder in Northumberland, where our new dig starts tomorrow.

Geophysical surveys of the area have revealed a number of ancient structures. Could these be the remains of a lost medieval settlement? Some of our archaeologists aren’t convinced we’ll find too much, but Lawrence is feeling hopeful, so who knows what might turn up!

The site is remote and promises to be a real challenge, but we’ll be bringing you daily updates, behind the scenes footage, discoveries, and plenty more as the excavation unfolds.

We’re looking forward to sharing the journey with you all!

Here's wishing you good weather, vast amounts of midge/mosquito repellant and the finds and horizons you're hoping for!

Thanks for taking me along on the flag, guys! Chuffed to know I’ll be looking over your shoulders as you dig for answers! ✨

I really like this X-Crew format, they have a much more intimate vibe as it's a small targeted investigation, looking forward to this...

Question, do you all own your own camping vans, or do you rent them when you go remote?

Chris Siegmann

Glad this wasn't planned for later in the year. Weather should be fun though. Good luck.

Joe Keller

I’m excited about this new dig! Love it!

One van has kindly been leant to us via a company called Van Haven because one of the team's campers broke down just before leaving for the dig. See if you can spot it!

Pauline

Camped in Kielder for a week once. A mosquito net that hangs over the face and neck is a must!

Good luck, sounds like a real expedition. I can’t help feeling that you should have gone the whole hog and brought a couple of mules to carry all your kit to the dig site. You could leave them to graze while you dug!

Casey Frend

I’m excited for this one! Have fun!

W Pierce

Love the microphone on the trowel!! Have a fantastic dig despite the midges!

Maureen

Hi, I will be camping not far from the dig later this week. Are there any opportunities for volunteers? 🤞🤞

Good luck and happy finds hunting! And thank you for bringing the flag - at least we can all be there in print!

"Shop's closed til Thursday, as is the pub." Good thing John Gater isn't on this expedition! He might perish without a pub. :P
