In just a couple of days, the Time Team crew will be arriving in Lincoln for our latest three-day excavation - and we’re incredibly excited to get back on site.

One of the best things about these recent digs has been being able to bring Time Team members along for the adventure, and we want to do even more of that in Lincoln.

We’ll be doing our best to bring you as much from the dig as we can - following the archaeology as it develops, getting behind the scenes and catching up with the team along the way.

And that starts with your questions!Perhaps you want to know more about the medieval site and it's history, what we’re hoping to uncover, how the trenches are chosen - or simply what life is really like on a Time Team dig?

Drop your questions in the comments below 👇

We’ll pick a selection and put them directly to the team while we’re on site.

Lincoln is nearly here - and we can’t wait to bring you with us!

Since you know it's a leprosy hospital site, are there special health and safety protocols to follow?

Michelle Nunn

Was there a connection to St Katherine’s priory?

Cynthia Clearwater

Were family members allowed to see their loved ones living at the hospital?

Sally B

Will you be doing environmental analysis to investigate the general health of occupiers of the site? (I found the Soutra site reports fascinating in the 80s)

Michael Crouch

When working in a more urban environment, how much of an issue is it to check and avoid hazardous obstacles such as telecommunication and electricity cables, water and gas pipes? Are there regulations and protocols to follow before you can dig?

Tim Rohrbacher

Hi. We came over from the USA in hopes of getting a glimpse of things and maybe hang out at a pub with dig teams. We weren’t lucky enough to be selected as a volunteer. We will keep trying though. We got in today and Lincoln has already charmed us to no end. Our question is, were you here for last year’s dig and what is one thing you hope to learn more about or discover this time? Thanks and cheers.

Renee O'brien

Just got my Time Team Membership certificate!

David Boon

Given the time period for the site, how much does prior research of the historical sources guide the archaeological questions and potential locations for trenches once combined with geophysics results?

Caroline W

https:www.cdc.gov/leprosy/about/in Good background information here. The author Abraham Verghese’s book The Covenant of Water has leprosy as a theme.

Lorna Dryden

I actually thought that too, what’s the lifetime of a leprosy germ 😵‍💫

Melinda McGrath

What is the general history of leprosy hospitals in England and where does the Lincoln site fit into that history? Are there any contemporaneous writings about this place?

David Skelton

Will the site be open to the public?

David Skelton

What happens to the site and finds after the episode is filmed? Are there plans for an exhibition of the findings at a later date?

David Skelton

Time Team did an episode on a Leper Hospital in Winchester (Series 8) and Alice Roberts used it as an example in her book Crypt.

Kevin B

About 8 months in ideal environmental conditions. Definitely safe for the TT diggers and crew.

Mark Lund

What took you!? Only kidding, welcome to the party!

Michael Berthelsen

Also, treatable with modern antibiotics, so not really that much of an issue anymore. Luckily!

Michael Berthelsen

Yes, it is open to the public if you want to come have a look through the area. ☺️
