It was so much fun to have been a part of this 💓

Another feature of TP-16 - the possible air raid shelter site - was the smell. When digging through the gravel layer, there was the unmistakable smell of railway. That gravel may well have been the ballast from the nearby railway when it was cleared following the Beeching cuts of the 1960s?

Paul Saunders

Absolutely amazing summary. Thank you.

Jim Dye

Thanks Martyn & Lawrence, all of that was so informative and interesting to watch. I also loved spotting the knitted Mick Aston on the table in the big tent keeping watch over everyone :)

A three day dig sadly seems to flash by so fast and then it’s all over. But the sheer amount of work accomplished in this one is extraordinary and will doubtless be keeping everyone busy for a long time to come. It has been a privilege to have been so intimately involved in the action and to be given access to such a lot of the discoveries as they were taking place. Thanks to everyone involved. Time Team at its absolute best. 👏

Tony

Love Dig Watch and this one has taken it up another level. Thank you Lawrence, Martyn and everyone who contributed

Kerry Hennigan

The daily dig watch posts have been fabulous in helping people like me, as far away as Australia, really feel like we've been (virtually) close to the action in (almost) real time. Wonderful job, everyone!

Brian M

Dig Watch is an excellent and very much appreciated addition to the Time Team content offering, and helps bring Patrons into the dig experience from afar. It’s gritty and honestly made by the experts on the ground ringing a real personal feel to it and makes it so much more interesting. Love it and cannot wait to see more snippets and the final programme. Excited by the feedback from the team that it feels classic time time, blending the new with the old. Fab!!

Interesting to see the problems still encountered with the tech as it stands today. The old techniques still have to be employed to get the whole story. Not a bad thing, for it also means we do not know everything before we turn any soil, nor can we. Therefore traditional archaeology is still necessary to tell us what we wish to know. I guess that means that the skills will prevail for long into the future, aided by developing technology. A happy marriage.

Mika

For me you have now found the right balance for Dig Watch what to show and what not to. And all the presenter duos also seem quite comfortable with the format

Alex Squire

thank you for filming this! It's been great to get a behind-the-scenes look at what's going on. I live in Lincoln so I wanted to get involved as much as possible and things like this help a lot

Richard Lowe-Jackson

Absolute game-changer for Dig Watch this weekend. The team has moved away from keeping things under wraps and given us proper, in-depth insights into the trench discoveries. It's raised the bar completely and made the wait for the main programme even harder!

Sam Kimpel

Thanks to all - looking forward to the additional content and episodes!

Pauline Travis

Thank you very interesting and looking forward to seeing more in time.

Jim Davies

Very enjoyable Digwatch and I look forward to the next updates and the prog when it is ready for release! Really good to see some pf the behind the scenes stuff. Huge thanks to everyone involved

LadyBracknell

Wonderful presentation! Dig Watch brings those of us far away right into the moment, on site. What a thrill to see the entire Time Team crew there and hear about the discoveries made. So happy to support these efforts to uncover the past ✨💜

TP16+. Asphalt? Steel bars? Given the elevation and the location, could it be an ACK-ACK battery?

sheilaellen

Is there any chance some of the "post-ex" research might be filmed and shared too? Examples of common tests and how the results are interpreted. How much records research is required and what does that look like?

Jinny Royer

Was Alice Bower, the woman kicked out of her house by the Warden, suffering from Leprosy and living on the hospital grounds?

Janie Waters

I'm with you, Richard. The "extended" Dig Watch episodes have been stellar. thanks so much to Time Team for offering us such a wealth of information over this past weekend. I can't wait for the "final" program :)

Fiona Drake

Just brilliant to get such a good idea of the dig in progress.. and so lovely to see Time Team enthusing another generation of people. Mick would be so chuffed that his work has been so instrumental in transmitting the passion for archaeology to so many, and continues to do so with friends old and new. As someone who has now been a passionate volunteer excavator for 17 years i can tell you that Time Team has changed my life and hundreds, if not thousands, of fellow diggers. Thank you all.

Lynn Edwards

A bit of wry humour... I live alongside a main road. While watching this, a fire engine came screaming past along the road, heading east as if towards Lincoln, and as the sound faded, it was picked up on screen by something with the same siren sound, seeming to head left to right! (Thought I'd Time Travelled to one of those weird stereo sound effect studios!)

Sarah Butler

I don’t want it to end. Oh well, back to reruns. Season 6 specials, here I come. Such a time team nerd. 🤓 xxxx

Anja Adam

What can one say? Splendid, brilliant, wonderful, amazing! I simply lack the vocabulary to describe my overwhelmed feelings. You guys are just incredibly outstanding!

Peter K Miles

Yep, nailed it. Keep this approach for future digs. Well done.

Ian Holmes

These three dig watch programmes have been outstanding! I learned so much. I'm a born and bred Lincolnshire Yellowbelly, and drove past and walked on South Common time and time again as a child. It's amazing to think about what was just a few inches below my feet. Thank you for this.

Eggs Ackley

That’s even cooler than having the Red Arrows overfly!

Eggs Ackley

Dig Watch has become a fine asset and as another commenter noted you have found a good balance for the revelations. Keep it up!

Fred To

A very informating video of a dig, something that's been missing up to now. Thanks a lot. But please ensure that the microphones used are balanced in volume.

Bron Lloyd

I’ve loved these Digwatches! Found Helen’s explanation of the knives and buckles fascinating. And my ears pricked up when she mentioned an ‘Alice Bower’ - the name of my great grandmother ;)

Alan

Just want to add to the well deserved chorus of appreciation. Well done to all involved.

Michael Berthelsen

As a volunteer at the dig, believe me, it's going to be SO hard to wait until next year when the episode comes out! I know the analysis takes time, and then editing the whole weekend down into a single episode will be really hard, but we're SO excited!😆 And I agree, these Dig Watches have been awesome to follow, also as one of the volunteers, so we get to see what's happening in the main trench and all the other test pits!

Michael Berthelsen

As one of the volunteers in the background, we love them too. Since we're mostly stuck in our single test pits, we don't know that much about what goes on everywhere else, and even though we get a short brief at the end of every day, seeing these throughout the dig has been fantastic!❤️👍

Michael Berthelsen

Would absolutely LOVE to see what happens with some of the more useful or unique finds after the end of the dig itself!

Michael Berthelsen

3 of the people on my test pit team this weekend are now seriously considering studying various archaeology specializations because they had such a great time at the dig.❤️ And one of the Time Team archaeologists we talked to told me she was inspired to become an archaeologist from watching the original Time Team as a kid. 😁👍

sheilaellen

Really enjoyed Helen's piece about the knife and buckle. Tnx

Kathy Bryan

Just came on to say what I see other people have already been saying, Dig Watch for this weekend have been amazing, so much information and access absolutely loved it. So, thank you to everyone who has made it possible it is brilliant for those of us who are not able to get there and volunteer.

Marj Roul

Love the dig watch episodes. But what I want to know is Did Tony make it to his train on time?

DIANA R NELSON

These have been great. Martyn and Lawrence make a great team. My only quibble is one of the mics was always weaker. I still have no idea what Stuart said in this episode.

Nikki

Really enjoyed these longer length, more informative Dig Watch episodes! Big thanks to Martyn, Lawrence, Alex and the rest of TT cast & crew for bringing us to the dig in such an intimate & in depth way. It's been amazing to watch & learn as various team members & experts got stuck in to what they do best! The eps were presented in a captivating & modern way, whist still retaining much of the classic Time Team vibe I grew up with. Very well done Team. Excited for more!

Denis Oliver

Martin's microphone is significantly worse than the other one. Please replace it!

Tracy Poole

I had to pause the video to compliment the videographer who was filming Martyn and Lawrence speaking to Dani and Naomi. He was getting great shots of Dani's profile highlighted by the setting sun behind her, making her look much like the face on the Time Team logo that's on her shirt. Bravo, sir!!

Emily Spencer

Just fantastic! Thank you so much!

David J. Neivandt

A question for Jimmy; if radar was unable to resolve the shallow archeology until it passed through to different media at depth, would it help to apply top soil to the site to build up depth and contrast above the previously shallow anomalies? Clearly this wouldn't be practical on a large area, but perhaps it could be done on small, critical areas, perhaps with compaction if necessary?

Rebecca Clark

These extended Dig Watches have been great.Thank you Lawrence,Martyn, Alex and all the TT team. Looking forward to the final program

Jimmy Adcock

Jimmy says "Yes, theoretically that would work, if someone was willing to put the effort in. Do you have a shovel and wheelbarrow....?"

Drew

I can't get this ep to play. I'm sure it's a fault with my PC.
