I agree with Helen, would love to see more explorations of the Roman/Anglo-Saxon transition era and Dark Ages. I'm totally fascinated by that period. Thanks for a great interview.

Mark Cooke

Nice chat friendly and informative

Resistance History with Tad Stoermer

The "bucket episode", with those remarkable double burials, was extraordinary, and it took the combined perspective of the team -- and the palpable excitement as the finds mounted -- to convey just how special, even unique, it was. It stands out even amongst those in the wonderful early seasons. Even the experimental archaeology segment (the reconstruction of the first bucket found) was fascinating. A real public history/public archaeology/public humanities masterclass that drew viewers into the exploration and enthusiasm, almost in real time. Helen was such a huge part of the team's ability to engage the the audience in such authentic ways. It's heartening to see that she has lost none of that spirit.

Irene Daly

Listening to Helen, I realized Much of what made Time Team so relatable was the team’s ability to relate to audiences on such a personal, intimate level. There are no pretentious crew members, you almost feel as if they are addressing you personally.

Carole Cox

Helen, your enthusiasm is always contagious!

Carole Cox

Why did the lights go off - with respect to writing and artitecture- when the Roman's left? What about the Romano Britains? There was no continuum? Was it lack of trade?

Steve Streeting

I met Helen a few years ago and she was just lovely...more than willing to have a chat and even gave me a book recommendation. Love for her to get her dream dig organised. That really would be fascinating.

Jon Gill

It was the personalities for me, each and every one of them was about to make you feel like you were in a room with them and talking / explaining things directly to you. It made archaeology and history accessible even to someone so young (I was probably in my early teens when I started watching it).

Jim Else

Huge crush on Helen!

Philip Stack

I so agree with Helen about the fascinating transition from the Roman period into the early Anglo-Saxon. Far more questions than answers, and a salient reminder that history doesn't always go in a straight line.

Dave Free

Wonderful Thank you

Zoe Propper

Would love to learn more about the early Anglo-Saxon period.

Keichi

I think the Videos really need some Captions.. Because the first 4 times i always heard "f**k it" instead of Bucket.. But anyway i still remember that Episode, Helen was talking about.

TimeTeamOfficial

Hi Keichi, thanks for the feedback. Captions is something we’re working on. We just want to get it right as there is a big range in accuracy and quality out there and it’s a big job. It’s on our to do list though!

Phil Wallace

Thanks Helen, you are definitely missed from our screens 🙂

Andy Cockerill

Thanks Helen, nice to see you and hear your answers.

Jenna Chanthavisay

I instantly took a liking to you Helen in the first episode I ever saw you in. You were pregnant and the gleam in your eyes, the excitement in your face, and the variety and vast knowledge you had for pretty much everything, made me hope you were in every episode I watched after that!

Jennifer Hess

So nice to hear you are doing well and enjoying life. It feels like we are reconnecting with old friends.

Christopher

Hi Helen, it's great to see you again. Until Time Team I had little interest in archeology outside of Egypt, but you and the rest of the Time Team ' family ' changed that for the good. I've lost count of the number of times I've watched seasons1-20, plus the Specials and enjoyed them each time.

David M. Kirkeby

For us as well. My wife and I often discuss this after an episode. Time Team has never covered this particularly well. It might be the wrong kind of show for that kind of information or maybe just not a lot is known.

David M. Kirkeby

I heard bucket but I couldn't figure out what they had to do with this episode exactly. I thought we had seen most of the episodes but maybe not this one. It sounded like people were being buried with mini buckets in their graves? Maybe I completely misunderstood and hopefully somebody will get a little laugh about my misunderstanding. I'm an American and sometimes words are pronounced in strange ways to my ears or words have unique British English meanings, I thought maybe that was part of it.

Irene Daly

Another huge advantage of being a Time Team fan is the educational aspect. I volunteered at a Primary School ( librarian) and I loved to relate some of the facts I learned from the programmes. I think the programmes should be mandatory viewing for older students. Time Team presenters teach in a more accessible, fascinating and down-to earth way, Most of all, they are entertaining; a skill some educators cannot always achieve when teaching history. As an educator, you have to keep your audience engrossed, else they’ll very quickly switch off and then are lost to you.

Stan Hughes

Authentic, friendly and awesome - Helen Geake! :) Go Helen for the Greens! Yay!

Rob Watt

Hello from one of your Canadian fans, Time Team. Thank you for this interview. What a good idea!

Robert Boudreau

On of the many things I've always found endearing about Helen is her infectious smile. So nice to see it again. She has such a great sense of humor, "People like things that are functional as well as pretty, like my hat". Pure Helen Geake gold.

Andrew Meyer

Hi from a US fan. I am looking forward to more from you and the rest of the Time Team crew (old & new) going forward. I’ve been an Anglophile (UK-phile?) since childhood, and TT has been there to help satisfy my curiosity. And, Helen Geake MP has a nice ring to it! Best of luck there.

Rachael Arnott

"Wonderful Things" is a memory of Helen that always stands out - nice to hear her say it again!

Ellen Woodrow

Thank you so much Helen, for coming back! I've been a fan for years and absolutely love Time Team! I hope you do get to dig the sites you mentioned near you!

Duane E Massung

Helen, we learned so much from you time on Time Team! It was a huge inspiration and frankly an international monument of its own. Please continue this work! It is so important we know the past.

David Boon

I do hope you get to do what you propose. Good luck with the political endeavours.

Jade Wibbels

I also love the bucket episode!

Jennifer Sapp

Yes! That’s exactly how it feels! ♥️

A Bleese

Thank you for losing the music that was over the Mick Worthington interview, it made the video so much better. These are very interesting insights.

A Bleese

I live near Coddenham and drive through it several times a week, I would love to see you dig at Coddenham. In fact, I'd love to be on the Coddenham dig. It could be fascinating. I'd also like to find out if Sitomagus could be located.

wich

Super woman!!

Kristna Evans

Helen, Ever since the first episode you showed up on, you have been one of my favorite "friends" (that's how I think of all of you!) from Time Team. I wish we could meet in real life! Maybe I'll come stalk you at a political event on my next trip to England (I live in the US). I do hope you will stay involved with future Time Teams - or become a host on another history/archaeology show!

Terri

So happy to see you. You haven't changed a bit. So fun to hear that you are "green" and super politically active. Much success!

Elizabeth Towers

You and everyone on the time team were/are experts in your own different fields and it was so much fun to see the spontaneous excitement when one of you would find something and everyone would come running over to see what is was. I can't wait to see all of you back in action.

Greg Haley

Love the idea of digging at Cadnam. PS - Helen, you were credited on 82 episodes of Time Team, according to IMDB.
