Mark Cooke

And the driver is……..

Anthony cotton

This is like archeologys idea of a peep show lol

Matt Smith

Is there someone in place as ‘presenter’ as there used to be? So it can all be tied together as a narrative as per the old days?

Clive Hobbs

Yes, broken ground! Missing the “‘and on, ‘ang on” and “Cor Ahh”

Barbara Ramminger

finally starting! that's so exciting and lovely to see old(er) faces!!

Freda Bradley

Can we just take a second to remember Ian. He was such a skilled operator. I don't know his surname, but all fans will remember him.

Dave Shaw

"That's the naaatural over ere...."

Kalypso

Trench! Trench! Trench!

Andy H

You tease us

Elise Norwood

Ian Barclays. Sadly passed in 2014

Jack D Stout

I thought it was those two worst job guys (or whatever their show is called).

Linda Berube

Does anyone remember Ian Powlesland? Where is he now?

George Dyson

Is Phil going to put in a appearance

Eggs Ackley

Ian and Tracey Smith…undersung trech heroes!

Doug Lucey

When they adjourn to the pub? 😉

Mechanical Muse

Amazing! These videos are wonderful. Thanks for posting these!

Priscilla Logan

I did think of Ian as soon as I saw the bigger ready to to dig that Trench

Martha Berryman

WAIT! This opening Tease? That's NOT Ian Powleslan!!!! Full-fledged PhD Archaeologist, in a generational family of Archeo/Anthro scholars. Quiet & handsome, but oh, that brilliant smile, I've sought his image over the entire 20 years. WILL HE be on this new Launch of Time Team??? . SEE Dr. Ian Powlesland, University Project Officer: Bristol & Region Archaeological Services: St Nicholas Church ... http://www.bristol.ac.uk/school-of-arts/people/ian-a-powlesland

Patti McCarthy

Whoo hoo! Let the games begin! Gave me goosebumps to see the "first" trench opened on the new series. So exciting! Thanks for these wonderful peeks behind the scenes!

Max Hale

You can't have a trench without Phil!!!

Trish Murphy

We need Phil oohing & aahhing as the digger goes down layer by layer. These 30 second teases are fun by id be happier with a go pro strapped to someone’s chest. Time to go watch old Time Team episodes to tide me over until the next tease

Dorothy Frank

Now I'm honestly choked up. I'm not crying, you're crying.

Bob and Pam

Phil , they are digging where are ya?

widget brittle

I was thinking of him too watching this!!

Carrie Beesley

So did I but they've just announced it in another post and it's not them

Caroline Borduin

Me too. And in a tiny, tiny way I feel like we all helped make it real.

Geoffrey Jones

Has john retired to the local Pub yet !

Diane Johnston

Enjoying his retirement I hope - I'n sure he will be watching.

JUDITH COOKE

We have a spoil heap! A thing of beauty.

JUDITH COOKE

I’ve watched this trench going in six times.

Glenn J. Hill

Which site is this? It looks like the roman villa.

John Matthew IV

And so it begins! All that planning and now we are moving dirt.

Roger Whitaker

I miss Phil standing there with his worn and stained feathered hat eyeing every scoop from the digger. I hope he is well.

Jeff Lanam

Phil has been working at Waterloo with Tony Pollard. Look on YouTube for Waterloo Uncovered.

Freda Bradley

Matt has Phil's shovel! (or one like it). <3

Donna Oglesby

I totally agree with you, I will be missing Dr. Phil Harding standing there with that worn and sweat stained brown hat of his, looking at ever scrap of the Excavator bucket..as far as who he is doing, well, still diggign for the Wessex Archelogy.. just find their channel on youtube or just program in Phil Harding, and he will come up:-) I will miss that Laugh of his and that famous ohhhhhhh awwwww...

Robert Wise

Matt gets the choice bits, monk, prisoner, Roman soldier … responsibility for opening the first trench…

Thomas LaVenture

Thanks for keeping us up to date on the dig schedule and which site we are starting with. Project Supervisor.

Elise Norwood

So exciting!! But is anyone else puzzled by the lack of comments or “Best Wishes, Time Team” from Phil Harding? Did I just miss this?

Kathryn

I hope we get to meet the digger driver(s) too!

Stephen Walls

At the top of these comments, it says load more comments.

Joel Murdoch

Never thought watching a digger would get me a bit emotional but here we are.

Levy

I half expected to see good old Ian at the controls. I hope they have people with the skill he had.

Jonathan Eisen

This really brings a tear to the eye. Congratulations everyone! Awesome!

Shirlene Reid

Wonderful to see — Trench 1 Day 1. So exciting!!!

Kay Theriault

a TRENCH is open! This is really happening! ;D

Alex Schultz

I can't believe this patreon group made it happen. Totally awesome!!!

Doug Mackey

One wonders if the digger operator is named “Ian”. They often are! 😊

Larissa Spiker

I rather like the comment from another video of a buried chariot. Hey - if you're going to dream, dream big! LOL

Donna Holt

Never thought I would be so excited to see a trench opened. I almost wanted the camera to just show the dirt in the bottom.

Edward Barber

So. Is the Digger Driver's name Ian? I swear to you in every original Time Team I've seen the Digger Driver was named Ian. And yeah, I half expected Ian Barclay at the helm, or even Ian Powlesland (whom I call the only Archeologist that can run a Digger). Would have loved to see either. Can't WAIT for the new shows!!!!!
