After much anticipation, we're delighted to announce that Gus Casely-Hayford OBE and Natalie Haynes are taking the reins as Time Team's new presenters.

Gus is an historian, museum curator and broadcaster, currently serving as inaugural Director of V&A East, London. No stranger to filmmaking, Gus’s presenting credits include Lost Kingdoms of Africa and The Culture Show for the BBC, The Genius of British Art on Channel 4, and Tate Walks for Sky Arts.

“What an utter privilege to join the timelessly enjoyable and ever informative Time Team, says Gus. “There can be little more thrilling than uncovering ancient material culture, piecing together its context, contesting the possible histories – and all alongside our audiences. I cannot wait!”

Gus is joined by Natalie Haynes – author, classicist, comedian and presenter of BBC Radio 4’s much-loved Natalie Haynes Stands Up for the Classics. Natalie’s critically acclaimed book Pandora’s Jar, which examines women in Greek mythology in her unique voice, has won fans from Margaret Atwood to Mark Haddon.

“I’m thrilled to be joining Time Team,” adds Natalie. “I’ve spent years poring over archaeological finds in museum catalogues and academic papers, and now I get to be there for the discovery! I can’t wait to get started, and I can’t wait to be working with Gus and all the other experts. It will be such a treat.”

Tim Taylor, says: “We’re delighted that Gus and Natalie are joining us to present the digs. I know they share my own excitement and thrill at making new discoveries, as well as my passion for sharing these with a wider audience. I couldn’t think of a better combination to lead Time Team in this exciting new chapter.”

Of course, Gus and Natalie have big boots to fill. But Sir Tony Robinson, Time Team’s original presenter, honorary patron, and self-confessed ‘chief superfan’ is equally delighted with the appointment and wishes them well: “Time Team gave me twenty years worth of wonderful memories,” says Tony. “The best of luck to Gus and Natalie. I’m sure they’ll have a lot of fun and that the new series will be a great success!”

Already Gus and Natalie are getting stuck into the action and, by the looks of things, having a great time of it, too.

These guys are amazing and we hope you'll join us in welcoming them to the team!

Zoe Propper

Welcome Natalie and Gus.

Nice. I'm a big fan of Natalie Haynes. Pandora's Jar: Women in the Greek Myths is a really good read

Michael Lyons

Excellent to finally see them on site! And Day One is looking nice so far, even with a few clips from the site.

Justin Freeman

Welcome Gus and Natalie! Looking forward to seeing your take on presenting.

Rachel Greenham

Oh! Yes, this is good. I’m feeling much more comfortable now.

Mark Cooke

Mark Cooke

Ps check before going in a trench!

Ann Wagner

Welcome Gus and Natalie! It’s wonderful to have such great professionals doing this important work.

Al Harvey

I'm so excited for you! I'm looking forward to seeing you present. You have my best wishes.

Terri

Wow! Can't wait. They seem like perfect choices. The backgrounds are a great combo of what Mick and Tony had - Comedy, pedigree and enthusiasm! Thanks Tim

Dorothy Frank

Welcome! Can't wait to see your take on the dig. They going to put you in the trenches with a trowel, like they did Tony?

Jay R

I was hoping for Dr Alice Roberts, she is great and had a past connection to the show.

James Leighninger

Excellent choices! I have seen Gus’s series on Africa and watched Tim’s interview with Natalie earlier this year! Time Team is in great hands with these two knowledgable and eloquent individuals! Looking forward to this!!!

Don Cook

Have to look these two up! Sounds Great!

UKArtlover

Absolutely even a cameo brooch would do but good luck to the new guys too !

Mark Bousfield

Tony & Phil do Gogglebox... that would be amusing. Not just for Time Team episodes either, just in general.

Mark Bousfield

Congratulations to you both - we look forward to seeing you in action!

Doug Mackey

Welcome Gus and Natalie!

Clare McElroy

So exciting! Great additions to the Time Team

Elise Norwood

Looking forward to getting to know the new Time Teamers!

Janet Hay

This is brilliant news. Two of my favourite presenters. Both excellent communicators. I'm sure they will ask the right questions to help us understand what's going on. Viva Time Team!

Adell

Welcome to Time Team 😊

Shaun Stevens

Excellent choice for presenters. Looking forward to seeing them get stuck in.

Sianya

What a fantastic choice!

Geoff Marston

Great choices each will bring their own expertise in uncovering the facts for us viewers!

bil Jeschke

Any news on who will be the new lovable old curmudgeon?

Mechanical Muse

Just checked out some of their presentations and past gigs on YouTube - they seem perfect!

Stephen Southworth

My heart was hoping it would be Phil Harding, but back in the real world what a fantastic presenting team! It’s all coming together very nicely. Looking forward to enjoying the end product.

Nameri Verdstela

Natalie will be amazing! I don’t know the other chap but I’m sure he’ll be great so I’m looking forward to seeing him.

Paul Dent

I really hope it works out. They are both inter pares with all of the archeologists whereas Tony was the enthusiastic bloke who would needle the academics. Time Team needs a "Tony" to stop it turning into "Animal, Vegetable or Mineral."

Todd R

I don't know either but I hope they do well. We need to let the show develop into it's own new thing instead of holding it strictly to the Channel 4 Time Team model. That way it will develop a life of it's own with new energy instead of being a nostalgia show.

John Matthew IV

Welcome to Time Team. You have big shoes to fil.

Juliet Bhangu

Love Natalie’s Stand Up For The Classics. As someone who can make Ancient Greece and Rome both accessible and funny, she will be a great asset to the team.

Michael Gilbert

Excellent choices, properly intelligent people not box-ticking eye candy. I had thought Lisa Tarbuck might be a good choice, remember her on one of the live specials (or maybe more).

Simone Fritzen

Being the successors of Sir Tony - not the easiest job. But I am sure they will turn out to be great presenters.

David Gabriel

Time Team is (was?) all about the Team's chemistry and banter. That was what made the show great, even when the Archeology was somewhat disappointing... Let's hope this new team has a spark of its own and comes across as great — they sure have big shoes to fill! Fingers crossed and all the best from Portugal!

Robert Wise

Welcome to Time Team Gus and Natalie! Bringing Time Team back is one of the coolest things ever!

Marcus Hill

Welcome aboard Natalie and Gus, we're glad to have you on the team. May the digs be fruitful.

Philip Stack

Welcome to Natalie and Gus, both inspired appointments. I'm sure you will rapidly assume the role of injecting some healthy scepticism :)

Julie Mcneeley

Welcome Gus and Natalie to a new adventure!

Jen Swan

Wonderful choices! Welcome

Bren Merrett

Brilliant! There will be knowledge, questions and if Natalie has anything to do with it, all wrapped up with incisive humour and wit. It’s going to be the best viewing. Bring it on!

Ron Pike

Awesome selection! Fine smart people!

Mark Horn

Great news can’t wait to see them in action.

Lee Harrington

Brilliant news. Great new team members for TT. Tim has pulled another blinder. Xxx

Joel Murdoch

Not familiar with either of them (Natalie's name rings a faint, distant bell), but they sound capable based on their past history and look extremely personable. Great stuff.

Paul Wilkinson

I don't know either of them but I wish both good luck. You've some crazy big shoes to fill and if I'm honest, I'm always going to be looking out for Tony, hoping he changed his mind.

Bron Lloyd

Wonderful - best of luck!

Alan

Looks like you’ve already found treasure in the presenters, now how about in the trenches. Nice work.

Carl Johnson

Oh, very nice.. glad to meet the presenters.

Ken McCormack

Fantastic that Time Team has returned (more excited about this than Christiano Ronaldo coming back to Manchester Utd), so congratulations and looking forward to watching you all. Is it true Helen Geake (my all-time favourite time teamer) is back too? Whoever is on the team, you'll always have the friendship and support of the old fans, so welcome! (Can't wait to see modern geophys...)

Keith Jones

Professor Alice now. :-)

Keith Jones

Big welcome to Natalie & Gus. With so many old familiar faces already back in the new team, really great to see new (unknown to me at least) presenters. Looking forward to what they do!

Tomas Carlström

As a swede these two are unkown to me, but by their work looks like an excellent choice.

Toby Forsdyke

Ah. One of the key parts of Tony’s role was that he was the ‘every man’, i.e. a non-expert representing us mere mortals when asking the experts to explain what we were seeing. Sandi Toksvig took that to the extreme by being annoyingly obtuse at times but I am concerned this is going too far the other other way by having people with expert knowledge themselves which they may want to impose their views on what the experts are telling us. I appreciate that Tim Taylor is seeking to replace Tony and Mick, so I hope that Natalie can play that ‘every man’ for me!

Neil Scott

Nice one. Hurry up and get these digs done, edited and into our eyeballs. I'm not sure I can cope with Time Team AND ABBA getting back together at the same time, though. Perhaps a mashup of both of these, with some of the old TT lineup as computer avatars..?

Thomas Byrne

Great news, nice to meet the new presenters. Best of luck to the completed Time Team

Darylyn Phraner

Best wishes from Orlando to Gus and Natalie if they take on Time Team's new adventures 😊

Anne Henry

Welcome and the best of luck to you both. Really looking forward to seeing the first "finished product". Very exciting.

Kay Theriault

Best wishes and welcome to Time Team! I'm excited to see new faces. :)

Fern Wilcox

Welcome, welcome, welcome to Natalie and Gus! This is going to be great and I appreciate your joining Time Team!!!! Cheers from Minnesota

Tuggy

Best of luck to the 2 new presenters. I look forward to hearing the banter between everyone on the team.

Mark Gaither

Welcome. Make Victor and Mick proud.

Lee Davis

Congratulations to Gus and Natalie!! I can't wait to see you as presenters for the new Time Team excavations. I love knowing what went on in the ancient past! I'm looking forward to seeing you do your stuff!!!

Val Sharpe

Hello from New Zealand.Looking forward to great times ahead

Chris Siegmann

Hi. Just wondering if the new presenters are going to do an on screen introduction? Would be great for patrons to get a first hand glimpse of what they are bringing to the party! What they hope to get out of the experience would also be a great insight. Cheers

Andrew Hingston

Very reassured by a choice of presenters who will understand that their role is to present the archaeology to the viewer, not see themselves as purely light relief.

Kristin Sweetland

How exciting! Way to go. Can’t wait for all the new adventures.

Stan Bubrouski

Lost Kingdoms of Africa was great, so cool to see you guys picked up some great presenters!

Larissa Spiker

Nice. I'm glad to see presenters who will ask intelligent questions and make sense of what's happening on the site, rather than just be a pretty face on an empty head.

Olivia McGerty

Aloha from Hawai’i! Congratulations!

Cheryl Kurucz

Hello Gus and Natalie from Washington state in the beautiful Pacific Northwest! I’m so excited to get to know you through the time teaching gig and post’s!

Scot AnSgeulaiche

I was already a big fan of Natalie's wit and keen observations. Bringing her history expertise to TT will contribute a lot.

FIONA GARDINER

So much catch up to watch and comments to read. Excited that TT is up and running! (Or should that be delving into the past?) More power to your trowels.
