Day One is now under wraps now and what a day it has been!  There's so much to show and tell you when the time is right, but for the minute here's Derek and Lawrence with our very on site Q&A session. First up in the hot seat is Stewart Ainsworth.

Thank you for all your questions, and please keep them coming in! Some we may not be able to answer yet, while others might become clear as the weekend unfolds...

Leave you questions for Day Two in the comments below...

Charles Ross

Any chance we can get a high Res of the flag so we can see where our names are? 😁

TimeTeamOfficial

More on the Flag of Fame and Wall of Fame to follow. Watch this space...

peter lidster

oh yeah good point, i put forward my dads name but didn't hear if it was selected so i don't even know if his names up there.

Peter

Great, love these updates. Not over produced, just as it is. I feel like I am there. Derek and Lawrence are perfect for these and good to see John and Stewart have not changed! Any chance of a live 360 feed from the dig?

Mark Freestone

If the John vs Stewart relationship was a football match, and bought Pints were goals, who’s winning?

Michael Louk

What new bit of tech, machinery or hardware (Amazing giant dome) has wowed you the most?

Ros Haywood

Loved it when Stewart said his wallet was self-isolating!

Annabelle

Love it! Love Stewart’s work, so interesting. Stewart, if you’re ever round Stanton Moor/Bakewell, you’re invited for a cup of tea. Amazing how Stewart has evolved huge hands, ideal for gesticulating expressively at landscape features 🤣

Steve Burgess

Great to see things underway and hearing the old team as well as the new are still really pumped for the challenge!

TimeTeamOfficial

Hi Gary, we're working on the sound so hopefully you'll see some improvements as we go along. We're pinching what we can from the main shoots when we can, but part of the joy of capturing the action as it happens in the field is that you're witnessing the process as we find our feet. Please bear with us and consider this the making of the making of...

Rebekah U

I have to say, I had forgotten about the flag/wall of fame! Was so chuffed to be reminded that somewhere on the other side of the world I am a small part of one of my favourite shows 😌 Thanks for the updates! Dig watch has been really enjoyable so far.

Trish Murphy

Great interview guys. I have a question for John Gater. I’m excited to see the new geophys technologies that are available today. What technology are you most excited to use on this site & what more do you think geophys can show us now that was impossible 10 years ago?

Trish Murphy

I also have a question for Lawrence & Derek. Having just heard you say that you grew up watching Time Team, how much did you geek out when you arrived & what most excites you about being behind the scenes of this 3 day dig? Great job guys ✌️💚

Gary Mortimer

I expect somebody can pop off and get some Rode mics from the shops, I must say I stopped watching this one because of the sound. Keep up the good work though, this is an exciting time.

TimeTeamOfficial

Yes, we have! Keep a lot out for Brigid and Raysan coming soon...

JUDITH COOKE

The Spoil Heap Q&A, I am so happy with that label.

Ann Wagner

What was it like to get to the end of day one, once again, after so long? Did you guys all get together and talk long into the night? Did you gather at the local pub, or is the site too remote?

Mika

Please consider at least finding a non windy place for various chats, a reasonable microphone would not be an extravagance either

Shannon Stubsten

These digs move so fast, is there any risk that crucial details may get missed about a site and what kind of things do you do to prevent that from happening?

Simon Orchard

There's something so comfortingly British in how pub culture weaves it way through so much of TT. Perhaps I notice it more as an expat.

Anne Collinson

So enjoying this. It is wonderful to see everyone and hear their joy at being back together doing what they love.

Neil Ford

Fabulous interview with Stewart. What an engaging and enthusiastic professional he is. Generous and informative. Thank you so much for this content. Looking forward to the next interview !! Well done Time.Team and welcome back ,

Jon Colcord

Now THAT was an amazing interview! It was a stroke of genius bringing these two guys into the mix. Either of them would have also made an excellent presenter if not for the fact they probably already know too much about archaeology!

Robert Wise

I’m lovin’ this you guys! Thanks to everyone on both sides of the screen! Question: For previous TT members: during the first few days after returning to an old project, we sometimes encounter a cascade of new perspectives, and old ideas re-sorting themselves as new information floods in. Did you experience this, and what new insights did it bring?

Jude Edling

I could listen to Stewart for hours. Thank you for a great interview! This looks like an expansive site. In the old Time Team, Mick and Stewart or Tony or Carenza would go up in a helicopter or plane to get a bird's eye view of the landscape. They always had great conversations as well as ooh/ahh moments. The drones can get so much more aerial photography and video for the cost of a plane, but does the team miss the flying? I've always thought the interactions between the team, the host people, their frustrations, perseverance, humor, wonder and adaptability the best part of Time Team. Thank you.

Leah Kotok

Does anyone else have a crush on Stewart? <3

Leah Kotok

Will we get a chance to see a hi-res photo of the Patreon Time Team tapestry that's hanging behind them? I'd love to find my name on it.

Chris Siegmann

Hi guys. Loving the videos, however, …. Is there anything you can do to improve the sound quality? Especially in the dome. Very echoey!

Doug Lucey

Always like listening to Stewart being interviewed. Strikes me as a chap you’d have a very interesting chat with, over a pint or two!

Doug Mackey

John Gater has become a cracking comic in his advanced years! Lovely to see the TT standard behind.

Diane Johnston

Ainsworth V Gator banter - good stuff :)

Fern Wilcox

I would love to be in a pub with you all to just listen and observe and learn. I would even buy a round. (As soon as I find that da-n key to my wallet.) Thank you once again for a fun interview. Cheers!

Freda Bradley

I totally forgot there were names on that!! I got so lost in the interviews I didn't even remember that. HAHA.

Freda Bradley

Excellent point Stewart has about 3 days turning into more like 50 considering all the experts and help on the site readily available, and being on "fast forward" really made sense to me. I love to listen to him articulate things. He really does grasp entire pictures clearly and I really appreciate how he can teach ME to do that simply by explaining it.

Sharyle Doherty

It’s lovely to listen to Stewart and how he’s still enthusiastic about what he does.

Martha Berryman

Hey! SWITCH ON YOUR CC button, lower right!!! ALL is resolved.

Martha Berryman

Yes, we are lucky, those of us who find our Passion and our Work are the same, seamlessly and purposefully enriching our lives. Tho' 30 years as a Cultural Anthropologist, mostly alone as I tromped among remote communities, how I would have enjoyed having such Cohorts as the Time Team !!! Watching their 22 years and now new, like doing my own adventures all over again, with such an entourage. Ha! Thank you!!!!!

Wiwikiwi

Funny how people count themselves lucky when their work is their hobby. My work is not my hobby; I'm so not interested in IT. Still, I count myself lucky, cause I had the opportunity to learn widely different things and spread myself. I also believe I might have lost my passion for my hobbies had I made it my livelihood. How would I escape for the weekend if all I could escape into was more of what I was trying to escape from? But that might just be me. Interesting interview btw. Though I'm always happy to hear from Stewart.

Kathryn

This was such a thrill to watch and I’m just grinning all the way through it! And how wonderful to see Stewart’s obvious excitement about how he describes the “crime scene” and collaboration of all of the various people and disciplines :-)

Sally

Really enjoying Derek and Lawrence. And SO glad to see Stewart! (& John & everyone else!)

Richard Vine

If only we could all have jobs that we enjoy so much!!

Rita Baker

question for day two: Did Stewart end up buying a round in the pub, despite self-isolating? :-) Love to see both of them again joining in friendly banter especially since I was privileged to witness their friendship in action a few years ago on Lindisfarne:-)

Patti McCarthy

It's so fun to watch Stewart get more and more excited about being back on Time Team as the interview progresses! His love of collaboration, sharing of knowledge and just pure excitement of "being there" with old and new friends is fantastic! We love you, Stewart! So good to see you back in action doing the thing you love to do!

Elaine P

Echoing others in my liking and appreciation of Derek and Lawrence, their own banter and senses of humor fit right in. Absolutely loved this interview. Fairly new arrival to Time Team, have only known about it for several weeks (how on earth did I miss this?), but have totally immersed myself since then. I am fascinated by Stewart's ability to analyze the landscape, to really see what he's seeing, always look forward to the parts of the show when camera turns to him and his ideas. And wasn't he always right?

Pauline Guest

Perhaps too late for Day 2 questions, but withiut any real spoilers, have there been any unusual finds? Something the team wasn't expecting to find at this site? Or have there been any finds that the team is most excited about?

Stephen Bowness

Always a pleasure to hear from Stewart. Had to watch it twice though after I found my name on the wall.

Donna Oglesby

So enjoy seeing Stewart again and the rest of the time team 1.0 now with time team 2.0:-) always admired Stewart, and what he sees with maps and the landscape.. it's awesome what he sees just by REALLY looking around and seeing what could be hidden that others are just not looking for and use that info to help the rest of the dig and get more history of it and of the people that lived in that area..

Donna Oglesby

Guess it is the same thing when researching Genealogy, which is what I do, and have done for 28 yrs, in researching my family lines... people look at it as , oh nice a nice Hobby, but what else do you do, and it is the same thing, I enjoy going out to cemeteries, cause along with just looking at the records, your getting history with where they are buried as well, and what history or info you get from their headstones...it all comes together....

Glenn J. Hill

So, I am wondering which site this is, and why that has not been mentioned ? I heard Cornwall mentioned, so I now assume this is the Bronze age site ? I am finding the fragmented aspect of these teaser videos to be just that, fragmented and obtuse. Do I need to donate more $$ to be able to know what site this is, or ???

Shirlene Reid

“Ladies & Gentlemen…… John Gator” 😂 Well done guys. Fun & informative interview 👏

Sara Amos

Absolutely lovely to see the team banter again! As someone who got into History teaching because of my love of Time Team as a teenager it is an absolute pleasure to watch. I can’t wait for more!

Chris Siegmann

Thank you Martha, but lower right of what, and what is a CC button supposed to be? I’m on an iPad by the way. Are you a TT technical person?

JPatience

Even with closed captioning it's very difficult to make out the words people are saying. Do we need a whip round to up the production values just a tinge?

Lizzi Rokket

I've applied for a job with the legend that is John Gater, please tell him if he offers me an interview I'll take him up the 3 Kings and the first round is on me 😁 🍻 loving the banter! 😂

Larissa Spiker

I too found my entry on the wall - in memory of my mom - during Stewart's interview. I take this as divine because she knew how much I like Stewart both as a person and for his super cool job. He's always so kind and authentic and passionate about landscape archaeology. It's contagious. He and Helen are definitely my jam.

Danielle PR

I suspect she means switch on the closed captions. If you look at the lower right hand of the video and move in towards the centre you'll see 2 c's. That's the closed captions which are generated by Youtube. It's especially appreciated by Deaf and Hard of Hearing TT fans.

Born Idle

I've always found Stewart's interpretations and insights to be fascinating, even if they turn out later to be disproved by evidence from other sources. It's great to see him back!

Cheryl Kurucz

Excellent interview with Stewart guys !! And next rebuttal from John on Stewart! Lollll🤣🤣🤣🤣 I can’t wait!!!

Cheryl Kurucz

I have a question for the archaeologist. What kind of footwear do they use considering the different types of soil? And do they have to be careful what kind of footwear they use so as not to damage archaeology they are uncovering?

Chris Siegmann

Thanks Danielle. Nothing like a bit of context! Closed captions are handy , but not the issue. I can hear the voices OK, but they are not always clear. I note the boys have purloined the boom mike for their OB. Very clever of them. Cheers
