It's time for another walkabout. We've pinched the boom-mic when the crew weren't looking and have been digging for stories – we think we've found a few that you will like.

Hopefully you'll agree that things are starting to get a little bit interesting!

More to come shortly...

Carole Cox

Name that shovel - Phil

Matthew Adams

Well - it looks like this site is not disappointing anyone. That's looks like a lot of square metre-age of trench though!

Martin Wilkinson

Brilliant. Loving the content so far. So many teasers... :)

Ingrid Mayer

Fantastic great job both of you. Only being directly on site would be better!

Anne Dexter

You’re doing a great job guys, really enjoying the videos you’ve posted so far. Just a quick question that I may have missed in the build up to the dig, how many days are you going to be at the site?

Carole Cox

I'm watching this at 1220 EST a realizing it must be 1720 on site and they are perhaps wrapping up. Weird feeling! Thanks for this! Part of me wishes for some " Live" but remember the quality was not great on the original TT Lives so...grate full for what we are seeing!

David Morrissey

Matts shovel has got to be called 'Phil'

Simon Orchard

Shovel name suggestion - ooh argh

Doug Mackey

Coverage thus far is brilliant. Getting out Patreon bang for the buck as we say in the States!

Chris Ward

Matt's thinking, "I knew I'd never get rid of Phil, now I get to carry him around another 20 years"

Amy Roos

I’m just fine with not giving us spoilers in these, but Tim - do you really think those of us watching these need a teaser or we won’t watch the full episode? 😉

Ann Wagner

Oh, so exciting! What about calling the shovel “Rusty Phil?” Then we can tell it from the other Phil.

Trish Murphy

“One of our trench-cam or digger-cam trenches” 1 of indicates there’s more than 1. That’s cool

Robert Wise

Question; Matt’s trench seems to have been covered by quite a thick layer of soil. That soil looks like it has pebbles in it. How does that soil accumulate?

Martin Burch

I agree with “Phil” as the suggestion for the name for Matt’s shovel!

Hunt

Wow, lots of detail in this one. The drone looks very impressive. The boom mic really helps too.

Claudia Egelhoff

Having trouble understanding the commentators, maybe because I am a US'er. Is it possible to improve the audio? Thanks.

Claire J Portmann

How about naming the shovel after Matt's grandfather. If i heard correctly, in an earlier video, I thought Matt said it had been his grandfather's. Or incorporate "Grandfather" in the name.

Mark Freestone

I think Matt’s shovel should be called Doug…

JUDITH COOKE

Wonderful walkabout, standing on the brink of the ditches and getting an idea of the layout. Lots to find out more about later.

Diane S Ratliff

Really enjoying the walkabouts. And the 3D models are awesome. Maybe they can make a 3D model of a fogou before it's all over.

Connie L Merchant

Some of the dirt is in piles and some is spread out, especially near the round house trench. Must be a reason, correct?

Anne Collinson

My imagination is running wild as regarding what is actually there!

Sarah Holloway

Great update so exciting and we must name that shovel !

Mark Lund

Shovel name...mmm..you've got to call a spade a spade!

Priscilla Logan

So excited to see all the ditches and what's going on can't wait to see it in full. How about Uncle Phil

Rita Baker

ohh Adam has a new toy:-)

Birna Magnusdottir

This is exactly what intrigues me about this job. Everyone is practically beaming in the trenches and it is all so interesting and exciting, a feeling I have now experienced first hand working in the field.

Richard Moss

That was great! Can't wait for more.

Donna Oglesby

The Walkabouts are ok, but the sound is a bit messed up, cause every time one of them turns their heads to look at a dig trench and then still talking I have a hard time getting what they are saying....Math Looks Very Happy with what he has been finding, which is great to see him again. wondering WHEN will the whole three days be online, after all this is done??

Martin Packer

Loving the advent of drones. I was intrigued by the rotor configuration. I expect - despite it being small - it is quite expensive.

Kay Theriault

Oh, that's getting juicy. Sounds like there may be some nice finds on site!!

Cheryl Kurucz

Excellent video thoroughly enjoyed that guys! Matt Shovel name: Better than Phil (Harding’s)! 🤣 Nothing like talking smack between Phil and Matt! I might be biased but I think Phil was better at talking smack!🤣🤣🤣🤣So much fun😁

Frank Weggelaar

So the name for the spade should obviously be Ace... 😂

Graham Dombkins

Sounds like everyone is super-excited over the dig. Can’t wait to see the findings!

Graham Dombkins

I think Matt’s shovel should be called Mjölnir Let him feel epic every time he picks it up. Hopefully it also means it will always come back to him if he lends it out.

Emma R

Thank you so much for these videos! I love both "Spade" and "Mjölnir" as shovel names 😀

Beth Jones

I like the idea of just referring to it as " Matt's Tool".

john reames

tim: you will have to watch the program =x everyone: we are going to watch it 3 times anyway whether your tell us or not =D

Kieran Gane

Great video and a great teaser from Tim. As for Matt's shovel, perhaps Eileen? I can just hear him picking it up at the beginning of each day and saying "Come on Eileen".

Dorothy Frank

Love these walkabouts. You all are funny, trying not to give too much away. 😂 I am really interested in the ditch that is cut into the bedrock. What on earth??? Can't wait to find out!

Jeff Lanam

I found that turning on the closed captioning helps. It's auto-generated and gets a lot wrong, but it picks up some of the softer bits and fills in some gaps.

Jeff Lanam

Matt should call it "Lucille", like B. B. King's guitar.

Paul Brekke

Great to see these behind the scenes videos - the site looks fantastic, and it's sooooo nice to see all the familiar and new faces obviously enjoying the dig! :-) Of the spade naming suggestions so far, my favourite is "Ace" :-) It must be a great feeling to always have the Ace of spades :)

S Arrowsmith

Shovel has to be called Sir Cloudesley

Goijaart van Dijk

Our students use that exact same drone! Nice stuff. Also nice stuff our students can use, is the Rode Wireless Pro II microphone set: Perfect sound recording in a very small package. I can recommend that for your future videos, because your sound recording is below par, to be honest. I have to turn the playback volume way up to actually hear what is being said. But apart from that: Great stuff!

Fern Wilcox

I love the walkabout format and at each stop is a tasty morsel of what is to come. As for the sound, I am just fine with turning it up. I love the spontaneous feel. You make it seem that we are right there with you experiencing it all. Well done. QUESTION: will we get to meet the person on the other side of the camera one of these days? I know you have a lot to do....And yes, more walkabouts please. Cheers from Minnesota

Shirlene Reid

These walkabout videos are so fun. Love the spontaneity and friendly banter between everyone

Doug Mackey

Derek and Laurence! You are doing a superb job guiding us though the experience. Your friendliness, expertise and good humor honor Time Team’s legacy!

Lyle Walker

I say the shovel should be called Trusty. So when Matt says "Now where is my Trusty shovel?"

Cassista

Name Matt's shovel Flint. I love the idea of naming it in honor of Phil (really do), but Matt is his own Matt, with or without a Phil. However, he was taught to knap by the best in the world, so Flint.

Alexandra Taylor

Call the spade Gertrude. Then Matt can 'grab Gerty' any time he jumps into a trench.

Bayounola

I like Gerty, Eileen and Lucy for Matt's shovel.
