Lawrence ORourke

This is a very interesting discussion. Thanks

Steve Mikre

Dr. Helen Geake is always extremely interesting and informative. Excellent interview...

Ann H

Incredibly hard to understand. Echo, loss when heads turn away. Questions lost unless Helen repeated them. And where did Stewart go. Frustrating.

Anja Adam

THIS was really interesting. Thank you very much Dr. Helen Geake.

Kate

Boy, Helen really knows her stuff! I never tire of learning from these experts. Lucky us. Mick and Tim and Phil really started something here. I have a theory that modesty is inversely proportionate to knowledge.

Wolfgang Zenker

That might be a problem with your setup. Sound is quite ok for me, no echo, no loss of sound. Maybe you could try with another device?

Ann Wagner

Fascinating! Now I want a reading list so I can learn more. When Helen has time.

Ann H

Only slightly better on my Apple device (same ISP connection, states side) from Microsoft desk top. Echo is from the enclosed cabin space and separately Derek putting his head down when he speaks. Wonder what others' perceptions will be. Worst sound to date on my relatively new desktop and MA 10. Good to know it is good where you are Wolfgang.

Graham Stokes

Thank you for this. Most interesting.

widget brittle

Great questions. I could listen to Helen for hours. Thank you all!

Carl Johnson

Full of good information. You guys are evil with your teasers.

Eric Tottman-Trayner

I'd be interested to gain more information on how the Hospitallers and, for example, the Knights Templar gained and maintained 'legitimacy' during their respective periods. Were there any less distinct organisations that fulfilled similar functions?

Patricia Amero

That was excellent... but then I wouldn't expect anything less when it's Dr. Geake being interviewed. Great questions, fascinating answers. 😎👍

Patricia Amero

Try using earbuds/headphones to listen... the sound was crystal clear for me using them.

Lorna Dryden

Helen is my all time favorite 😍

Chrina Jarvis

I love hearing Helen speak - the tone of her voice and her extensive knowledge is so worth hearing

Mary Barber

Interesting. Please note it is St John Ambulance and the Order of ST John, not John's!

Mak Wilson

Got to love Helen! I wonder if she pop to my house for an hour or two son I could pick her brain? 😉👏🙏

Robert Wise

Great answer! “… normally they are not buried in their clothes or with their jewelry, except when they are.".

Ann H

Headphones were on. Something happening with voice optimization being lost when I go to the video from the push emails. Could hear the rain on the window fine. Voice ok when I log directly into Patreon but then all the push emails vanish from my inbox. Will go to Patreon and a friend who is a professional on sound issues.

Jon Colcord

So, from this we have to assume that they found a burial here *with* jewelry of some sort! Thinly-veiled spoiler! Sounded as if they forgot their nice new handheld mics for this one sadly. The rain on the roof was nearly drowning them out! Or maybe the new mics were picking up the rain more than the voices and had to be abandoned for this one? Please do more Spoil Heap sessions. They are great!

Freda Bradley

Watching Helen's mind work is a joy.

Roger Mills

More in just over ten minutes than the average mainstream documentary can manage in an hour. Why? Respecting the intelligence of the audience, that's why.

Paul Bartlett

It is because it is intelligent TV. I used to watch Horizon in the 70s and it was a delight. But then TV made it more about peddling a couple of factiods over an hour. With Time Team we learn, just like the Free OU did with their TV programmes (even if you were not an UG). Through OU I was quite proficient in a number of subjects by 11 yrs old. I feel TT is doing this for archeology.

Paul Bartlett

Apparently, my ancestors supported the Hospitallers and then helped to form the Teutonic Knights so, of course, I am interested. Famile Hohenlohe. I was quite surprised as I was facinated by the Hospitalers and then I found there was a family link. I was astonished. I found funds from Hohenlohe going to the Hospitallers before the spilt.

Paul Bartlett

After the spit there was Marienburg. Given, apparently, by my ancestors

David Boon

Another wonderful chat with Helen. She never disappoints with both her understanding and her engaging delivery.

Matthew Rice

Another engaging and informative conversation with Dr. Geake!

Eelco Kruidenier

Thanks for this interview. I learned a few things today.

Charr Skirvin

Note to Derek and Lawrence: Please speak up. It was hard to hear you, and it was difficult to discern what the questions were. All that aside, this was fascinating and informative. We're also enjoy the site walkabouts. Thanks!

Konstantin

I just love the new format, it offers so much more than commercial television ever could. Thanks Tim and Team for making this happen!

Robert O'Bryan

Thanks Helen you always bring archaeology to life.

camakarma

Excellent Q&A session. Always love listening to Helen - a real pleasure!

Elizabeth Neill

I learned a lot, too. But I am still a little confused re: difference between Knights Templar & Hospitaller & how K. Hospitaller became St. Johns Ambulance .
