Honorary mention

We'd like to make an honorary mention of the fantastic 'Gingerbread Pickering Castle and Church' by Lawrence Shaw and Jo Pickering. It was quite the creation, although in fairness, Lawrence has already claimed far too much Time Team merchandise as it is!

I'm usually on a tablet without a physical keyboard to do the Shift+Enter so if I need paragraph breaks I type it out in a notes app then copy and paste into the comment box.

C. Ni Anluain

Thanks so much for sharing the recipe Bronwen, we'll definitley be making this!

Robert Symonds

Hello, I just clicked on Entry D - will that now be automatically be recorded?

Ann McLeish

They all look terrific ..... well done everyone

Gay Ludington

Short descriptions of B, C, and D would help immensely, as would clearer pix of B and C!

Diana Lindvall

I don’t see a burron to enter my choice?

Dinah Sanders

Very faint circle on the left of the options, I think. Easier to see in the email.

Dinah Sanders

I'm most interested in A, but I have to concede B is most festive.

Diana Lindvall

Hi Dinah. I selected A, but don’t know what to do next to have my choice accepted?

Robert Wise

Mudslide … climatically descriptive for many places these days, and chocolate cake is always a winner!

Elise Norwood

What fun! They’re all winners in my book.

John Atkinson

Please post the recipe for the Celtic Spread fish stew!

David Boon

Wonderful effort by all, but my ancient coeliac disease carrying ancestors and I would like a gluten-free option next year. 😂

Di

All are creative

Jon Colcord

I voted for the one that actually qualifies as Time Team experimental archaeology! Plus, it has MEAD! C’mon now! It has to be the only choice. The rest are cute, but…

Derek Thom

I like the Saxons! But everyone made a really good effort.

Patricia Amero

Very creative and they all look yummy... well done everyone! 👏

Wendy Goyen

Fantastic entries- Would love to see a photo of Pickering Castle still.

Charlotte Edmonds

I completely agree! I know which is my current favourite but would like to know more before voting.

Cindy Masek

I too marked my choice but there is no submit button or next. I hope my choice for B is recorded. 🙂

Chrina Jarvis

For me, it was a decision between B and but I went for the Roundhouse as I liked the well-known phrase beside its creation!

Chrina Jarvis

Re my above comment, it should have said "between B and D".......

Mary Emery

I voted for the authentic Celtic Spread as it is experimental archaeology at its best - with mead - I bet it tasted good. And I'll give an Honorary Mention to the Iron Age Roundhouse - great work!

TimeTeamOfficial

Hi Diana, there's no 'submit' button on Patreon's polling function, so once you've clicked on the option it automatically registers your vote. Thanks

TimeTeamOfficial

Hi Cindy, once you've clicked on an option that will register your vote (confusingly there's no 'submit' button on Patreon's polling function)

TimeTeamOfficial

We’ve updated the post with large photos of each. Unfortunately we don’t have more ‘in-depth descriptions’ of each. Just the names provided by the bakers!

Robert Ernest Arthur Harvey

I think the " Celtic Spread" is closest to the spirit of experimental archaeology, and it also looks like summat I would make for lunch. In fact, given a few more details I reckon I would like to.

Maria Burns

Has to be A for me.. only one that made me hungry!

Ann H

A for Celtic archaeology experimentation. Were crabapples indigenous or a Roman invasive?

Ellen Chambers

How fun is this! Great job Everyone, I wish I was in the UK to participate!

Ellen Chambers

FYI - I taught my 93 year Dad to use YouTube and is now binding on Time Team Classics. Thank you so much for your years of dedication and teaching History! ❤️❤️

Ann H

Many thanks Robert. Flemming in "Britain after Rome" makes no distinction noting only the "apple" came with the Romans then vanished from cultivation. Unclear if hybrids evolved. In the States so I appreciate the link.

Anja Adam

I have to go for A - Celtic Spread because I'm an experimental foody myself. @Bronwen Sharkey-Wakeman do you mind giving us the recipe? ;)

Vila Deuel

All the entries look great, and required patience and skill, but I have to go with the Celtic spread.

Lou Nathaniels

while I love the artistry or the others Celtic spread is the one that seems appropriate to actually EAT!

Linda-Teresa Merwood

Great choice of finalists. All of them appealing, thus hard to know how to vote. I tried to imagine actually eating each of them - rinsing my mouth out in between, of course, virtually anyway! When I 'sampled' the Celtic Spread in this way something unique happened. It was as though I had become detached from the modern world for a moment and was actually IN the history. Breaking the crust of a slightly warm oat and barley bread, dipping a piece in the pot, trying to avoid drips - it felt timeless. Probably the excellent presentation played a part. Love the wooden bowl and beaker! Wonderfully appropriate. Is that a rush mat everything is set out on or the top of a cross-cut log? Either would feel equally authentic. The mead is an inspired adjunct, too. I'm definitely having a swig of that before I tackle the sweet sharpness of the crab apple and honey breadcups.

Linda-Teresa Merwood

Help me out, folks! How do I start a new paragraph without my comment automatically posting? I've been told many times before, but I keep forgetting!

Linda-Teresa Merwood

Mud Slide looks amazing too. Put me in mind of Brucie from the film 'Matilda,' lol!

TimeTeamOfficial

Hi Linda-Teresa, if you hold shift+return/enter that should do it!

Bronwen Sharkey-Wakeman

Bronwen here, thank you for the wonderful comments on my entry! A few people were asking about recipes so here's the recipe for the stew:

Bronwen Sharkey-Wakeman

125g bacon 2 leeks 500g of mixed smoked fish 1l of milk 300ml cream 2tbsp chives 1tsp salt Fry the bacon until the fat comes away, add the leeks and cook until tender. Add the fish and cover with the milk. Cook for 30 mins, add the cream, salt and chives. Done! Makes about 4 servings.
