Without further ado, we're thrilled to share Day 1 of our Band of Brothers dig with Operation Nightingale.

As you'll see, the finds are already flying in and it's only the first day!

Special thanks to Andrew Smith who found David Kenyon Webster's manuscript, and the Webster family for permission to include it.

Richard Stedall

an excellent start to what should be a fascinating extended dig

Chris Bate

Thank you, really looking forward to this week 🙂

JanD

Nice to get the human interest side of the dig as well. The days can't pass by fast enough!

Roger Mills

Well done Matt - excellent presentation.

David J. Neivandt

Agreed-Matt that was superb. It was great to see you in the presenters role!

Ann Wagner

Hi Matt! Hi Kerry! Hi John! So great to see you all back together and to meet your collaborators on this wonderful project. It’s exciting to see the site and watch you getting started. You go, Kerry - an important guy where the steel meets the dirt and never gets enough credit!

james mccarthy

Loving it !! Matt is fantastic as front man too love john too I do hope you recreate the pub crawl 🤣

Patricia Amero

Only 9 minutes in and my eyes were already leaking...well, I saw that coming. Richard Osgood and Matt Williams are so good at putting people at ease to help paint the picture... I say this a lot but never enough, THANK YOU to each person who plays a role in bringing this site to light. 🙏 I'm truly grateful.

PHILIP MAY

The three amigos. Well done Matt top job

Zoe Propper

Great start. And just down the road from me

Doug Brower

What a great beginning, and such a trove of contemporaneous accounts to flesh out what are sure to be many fascinating finds. Note: a company consisted of three or four platoons under a captain, for a total of about 200 men.

Jude Edling

This is a great start. I'm looking forward to more finds and more stories of the soldiers and the townspeople.

Steve Mikre

Matt Williams did an outstanding job as on camera presenter and narrator. Well done...👍🇬🇧

Anne Collinson

So enjoying this and looking forward to the finds. Great job Matt

Doug Lucey

Matt is a great presenter.

Catherine Anderson

I agree. Matt, John, Kerry and Richard are all doing a great job! It has a lot of meaning for someone like me from Minnesota in the US to see this site and know that both British and US people are working there. I knew men who were my Dad’s age who fought over there and in the Pacific theater. This is doing my heart. a lot of good.

Freda Bradley

Excellent video!!! I'm so excited for this. Matt, Richard, Kerry, John, and I saw Steve in photos. The dream team, right there. :)

Bron Lloyd

Great video! I love Matt’s presentation style

Michael Fulk

Absolutely fantastic! Looking forward to the rest of the dig watch.

Eggs Ackley

We need to give a shout out to the entire video production crew on this Dig Watch. I think this was the most polished production to date. Kudos to Colour Sergeant Ely for upholding his pub rights!🍺

Donna Oglesby

Looking forward to this, since I have studied a lot of Easy Company and have a lot of their personal books that a lot of Easy Company wrote, of their service, while there, and around Europe, serving under Maj. Dick Winters. Of ALL the time teams I have watched and rewatch, even now, I think for me, THIS one is gonna be MY favorite!

JUDITH COOKE

Beer comparisons. Getting into the serious investigation! Fabulous video.

Elizabeth Gildersleeve

This inspired me to pull out my Grandfather's military records for the first time since his death in 2014. He served in the 82nd Airborne/320th Glider Field Artillery Battalion, so not the 101st but I love the insight into how he may have lived while the 320th prepared to do their part. He shared few details about his experiences in WWII or Korea beyond an oft-repeated joke about how standing on a hill with your hands on your hips is a good way to get shot. The most he ever told us came out during a visit to the U.S. Army Airborne and Special Operations Museum in Fayetteville North Carolina. He had cross-trained as a pilot, so when they needed additional glider pilots and navigators due to losses he was sent over in time to be in the Navigator seat for Market Garden. He avoided planes for the rest of his life unless ordered to get on one.

If you haven't done so already, don't miss the Harvey Mills photo archive on his site 👆 link above... extremely impressive 📸

Di

Enjoying this so far. Thank you for participating in this dig.

Mick Worsfold

Interesting dig with lots of relevant details, enjoying Matt's presentation.

Rachelle Gates

Great presentation can’t wait to watch more

Mike Tedham

Brilliant stuff - well done Matt for stepping up into the role of presenter - must make a nice change from being forced to live as a monk or prisoner for 24 hours!

Eggs Ackley

And not to be forgotten, the late Stephen Ambrose, author of the book “Band of Brothers”. 👍🫡

Peter Hugh McDade

Aldbourne was the setting for the Dr Who episode The Daemons... with Jon Pertwee and the Brigadier.

Sue Jefferies

Yes, Ive been a few times for that.!

Cheryl Kurucz

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

David Boon

Brilliant first day with a great mix of the background history and goals of the dig. Such a great initiative to support those who have suffered from their service.

Robert JE Simpson

Loved Matt's presentation! This has been the dig that's finally encouraged me to sign up to the patreon - loving the immediacy of these reports, a bit like the old days of the big Time Team Live shows. Recognised Aldbourne from the trailers - have visited it before, and had no idea of its wartime connections. Fascinating stuff!

TimeTeamOfficial

Hi Robert, welcome aboard! Thanks for joining us, we appreciate the support. Lots more still to come, so look out for the next update.

Ross Gibson
