Hello!
After a full remake of April's The Little Mermaid drawing I've finally got it ready for print! I'm not quite ready to share the color but it's almost finished and the plan is to print tomorrow, Wednesday and next week once the pinks and yellows have dried a little.
And I have a good idea of what I'm doing for May, which is actually done I just need to make some slight changes, so I might have two prints ready for you one on top of another.
in the meantime, I'm having a big sale in my shop this week-- and I'm here to tell you about it first!
After two years my partner Andy and I are finally having a wedding! We've been legally married for two years but we never had a proper wedding so we’ve been kind of in limbo. Finally we get to celebrate with family and friends and share our love with them soon and we’re so excited.
To help offset costs of the wedding and to start a proper honeymoon fund I’m going to do a big sale in my shop! We thought we had a good idea of how much this wedding would cost but ho-hoooh uhhhh noooo we did not so time for a shop sale! I also need room on the shelves for some new prints so now is the perfect time for a sale all around.
Use code HONEYMOONFUND at checkout in my shop for 35% off your order! Here's the link if you'd like to order.
I'll be sharing only 25% online to everyone so the 35% is special for patrons! For not only being super awesome but also for being exceedingly patient with me as I get caught up. I really appreciate it, folks. I think this year has truly been one of the most wild I've had yet.
Here are some fun close ups of the line art for April's Little Mermaid print- headed out to subscribers who paid on April 1st. Thank you so much for your patience as I get caught up! Thank you thank you.
Really excited about these dueling above ground/underwater castles :3
The bottom gets quite complicated, so I'm going to rely heavily on grouping values so I can make sure the castle, mermaid and fun little details pop where I want them to. They're definitely all competing in a wild way right now!
Might have to work on the clock a bit more, I wanted to show what's fallen to the bottom of the ocean after shipwrecks, recent and ancient.
This wreck is supposed to have just happened...
While this one has been sitting on the bottom of the ocean for a few years. Still has it's sails but something's starting to grow :3
fish are obsessed with her, of course. They love that she brings them new wood and sweaty sailor's clothes to gnaw on.
I imagine she's bringing in the storm, even though these clouds look idyllic. Her true desire is to be as close to the humans and their creations as possible...and sometimes that means capsizing their boats..shaking them a little so they come down to sea with her.
I imagine her in lots of green, with green hair and a bright pink trident-like staff. I wanted to give her something magical without it being a traditional trident. Going to find a fun way to make her tail and the waves sparkle with the Riso texture.
and full piece one more time. Already seeing small things I want to change, but only to help the piece read better. We'll see what I need to soften when I add color!
I've been listening to Reverie, L. 68 by Debussy on repeat lately...something about this Hans Christian Anderson tale gives me epic Romantic vibes. Drew this whole piece to that song exclusively. I'll share my references and inspiration in the final post!
Excited to share more soon!
xoxo nat
