Open Studio in Atwater Village, Los Angeles

I'm planning a little low key open studio night to sell some prints and offer local pick up out of my studio. It'll be my first kind of casual event like this! That'll be this Friday afternoon from like 3pm-7pm or so. Maybe I'll stay late if anyone needs an extra hour after work! Will honor 35% off for patrons, but won't be sharing the sale with general public until next week for memorial day here in the US. Sleeping Beauty Exhibition at Gallery Nucleus - May's Riso Subscription Print

I made this print for Gallery Nucleus's Sleeping Beauty show, which is opening this weekend in Alhambra, California just outside of Los Angeles.

For the show I actually made the Riso print and then added gold paint to it to make it even more magical! There's a shimmer to the original that I'm actually obsessed with and I might be doing to prints in the future. I added a gold paint splatter that makes the gold really pop against the dark blues! it looks great and it's a 1 of 1 special for Gallery Nucleus.

Since that was a special one off print I'm free to send these smaller versions out to patrons for this month's print!! This one will be sent to Riso sub patrons who paid on May 1st.

I'm really excited because I LOVE this print so much and I was really stressed out at the idea of not being able to share it with a wider audience. I love the exclusive gold idea along WITH the print that can be more accessible, with a cost low enough for everyone to enjoy. It's been my ethos through my entire art career and the accessibility of printing with Riso is at the core! Art for all, not for few. Finding the balance is going to be tricky in the next few years as I've developed really strong relationships with a few galleries who I'd like to do special pieces for...painting on top of Riso prints might just be the route.

It's a show highlighting Eyvind Earle and his work on Sleeping Beauty, and it'll be showing in tandem with work from Eyvind in the upstairs / atrium gallery. If you're in LA come check it out June 1st! Happy to be a part of this show and share my appreciation for Eyvind Earle's beautiful shape language and textured works. It's the reason why I added that cool tree behind the dragon!

A few more updates:

This weekend I'm going to be tabling at Giant Robot's Art Konbini, and event Eric, owner of GR, has been doing out of the store for a few years now and is now doing as a special event in tandem with the Giant Robot show at the Japanese American National Museum.

Lightbox Expo i October, Pasadena, California. 

Come see me in October at Lightbox! Lightbox is an animation/illustration festival that celebrates narrative art in all forms. It's definitely my favorite event of the year and this year I'll be making the artwork for the show's official tote bags! More info on that will come MUCH later...and it's super under wraps right now so please don't share it! But I'm obviously very excited.

I'll also have my art book then so if you backed the campaign and want it signed then come visit me at Lightbox! Or if you didn't get a chance to back the book with the dustcover, i'll have the base book at Lightbox for sale too.

Speaking of art book, we changed a few things around for the dust cover and the back, and it's officially sent off to the printer for the final proof! Really excited to share the final soon!! with GOLD STARS woooooo
