Month Eight, Plague Year #2. We’re all one Friday closer to some kind of civilisational denouement. What do you think it is gonna be?

And how are you all doing? It has been another week of slightly-more-complicated-than-usual-logistics at 65LABS, but we clawed some rubble loose from the colossal wall of future that is bearing down upon us, blocking out the sun, and we have generously decided to name it 'progress'.

THIS WEEK

- Imagine a raft being buffeted around by the wild waves of an ocean storm: this is the Wreckage Systems release masterplan in all its uninhibited glory. It is necessarily this way. All the systems and songs exist in a turbulent, liquid state for as long as possible before we corral them and either release them onto the stream as dynamic digital froth, or turn them into concrete ones and zeroes as the e.p releases. This week, we held a VGM (Vague General Meeting) where we recalibrated the longer term release plan, checked that everything was still headed in the right direction and that we didn’t need to hastily shut this entire project down. Good news: it is and so we don’t.

- Release #4 has been sent off to Dave 'Golden Trainers' Sanderson for a first round of speculative mixing. This might evolve into Actual Mixing, or it might reveal a bunch of holes in the songs that we need to fill. Hard to tell. But feels good to have finally at least reached this point with it.

- One new system has been made. It’s called Cycle Three. It is good, a little more involved, a little more beat heavy. Kind of skronky. Wouldn’t feel out of place on our 7over8 e.p from A Year of Wreckage. This system will be added to the V2 test stream in the next build. We haven’t managed to get to that this week, and yesterday a new possible bug was brought to our attention on the Discord, so we’re gonna look into that before updating.

- Yesterday we put out SENTIENCE260521, a recording we managed to make of the time the Wreckage Systems stream went rogue and generated something that sounds a little bit like a supernova exploding. You either like this kind of music or you don’t, but the four of us at 65HQ are quite fond of noise records, and this one, made by accident, is better than anything we could have deliberately written ourselves. If you missed that post, you can find it HERE.

NEXT WEEK

- More systems and hopefully a new build for you towards the end of the week.

- Not sure what else yet,

Stay safe out there, friends. Until next time…
