Personally I think the best Jesus movie’s I have seen are The Last Temptation of Christ with Willem Dafoe as Jesus, and Jesus Christ Superstar with Ted Neeley. I don’t despise Mel Gibson like many other people do, though I criticize him for his DUI comments he made to the police. I feel he has moved past that but the Passion was basically torture porn and not a nuanced take on Jesus. He focused on the torture and crucifixion instead of looking at the good Jesus did. The Last Temptation of Christ is a more nuanced approach to Jesus as a human being, and while I would have preferred a middle eastern jewish actor portraying him, Wilhem Dafoe still does a great preformance.

Never seen The Passion of the Christ but 1 of the greatest movies that I have seen is Ransom (1996) and it features Mel Gibson so that might be a safer option 😅.

Oh my god yes! That Movie literally changed my outlook and beliefs in the most positive way possible, and ever since watching The Last Temptation i've had no urge to see Passion, I really loved how human and personal Scorsese made that film, Dafoe played Christ in such an emotional way that made you truly see what he suffered through and why so many want to worship him while showing exactly why no one should worship him, and I felt like despite what it's about, it felt very unbiased and passionate, and I really think if Leo watches a biblical film, he should go for Temptation not Passion, which like you said just feels like Torture Porn with a very bias creator behind it, which is the worst possible way to make a film about Jesus.

But there's a really good movie, that takes place in biblical times, it's hilarious, has a good message, and stars Jack Black, Michael Cera and McLovin!! It's called Year One and I KNOW you'd REALLY enjoy it!! Hope you had a great weekend!!

Stan is right, The Passion is torture porn. The priest in this episode is also right about it being based on a play from the dark ages, a play designed to spread anti-Semitism. I would recommend not watching it. The Mel Gibson obsession with torture was because every movie he directs has a drawn out torture scene in it. He also had that big incident where he was drunk and said a lot of racist and anti-Semitic things.

It's like 85% of the film is torture - aside from that it's honestly a really weird movie and made me question Mel Gibson's sanity. I'm not going to spoil anything but it just has an overall "off" feeling to it and they really go all out trying to Make certain characters creepy and demonic. Not a very good representation of Christ's life for sure.
