I can understand him not being pleased with Grey being in that movie, also, but I was a bit disappointed that it seemingly kept him from agreeing with Robbie on Grey doing a great job in this episode. And I think it kept him from liking this episode more as a whole, which I think was a standout in quality.

I didn't think of that about Janeway's plan, but I did wonder why it would be necessary to send the captain down on a mission like this. Surely it would be too risky. But it serviced the plot and there wouldn't have been much of a story if she hadn't been there.

I usually remember the episodes as y’all recap, but this one is just coming up BLANK for me. It’s one of the few I always skip when I run through the series for the millionth time. I’m going to have to actually go watch this episode then come back to this vid. 🙊🙊🙊🙊

Mary Jac Greer

Thanks for another great recap guys. And thanks for answering the questions. One thing I remember about Garrett was his hands and distinctive fingers, which I thought were handsome, at some point early on and watching him during Comic-Con. I’ve always had a thing about my own hands as a girl and them being long and fat, so I kind of related to Garrett’s comments about his hands.

Stephanie Baker

I'm with Garrett on this one. This episode does not resonate with me, however I really enjoyed the discussion and the whole podcast. Lots of depth and humor. Thank you.

David

Really thoughtful episode guys thank you. Okra Mokra lol.

Emily Hansen

Not sure I get the hostility directed towards Joel Grey having played a part he was cast in back in the '80s - if he hadn't taken the part it probably would have gone to another white guy. And it was still long before Jonathan Pryce was cast in Miss Saigon... Shouldn't the beef be with the casting directors and not the actors? That said, Joel did a beautiful job and it was sweet of him to take the part and work with Kate again.

Karen Chuplis

I've always loved this ep. It's very good and very sad. One thing people need to bear in mind, we are starting to get into some very good episodes (wiiiith a few stinkers that I still love.) The back end of Season two really starts to gel.

Craig Main

Can you believe it. A whole podcast with no mention of the Chakotay/B’Elanna ‘romance’ 😂

Utopia Science Fiction

I usually skip re-watching this episode because the end makes me sad haha, but it really is a beautiful episode and I love the scenes between Joel Grey's and Kate Mulgrew's characters

Maggie Metz

Had tears in my eyes after watching this Voyager episode. Such great performances by Kate and Joel. OMG you guys - blitoris !! I nearly fell off my chair from laughing. Don't think I will ever look at someone's forehead the same way again 🤣.

Kelly Bee (CaptainKathryn)

I'm finally caught up! Yay! Resistance is one of my favorite Janeway episodes, despite that the end always makes me sad.

Karen

This one was always one of my favorites and I think it's because most of the action was off Voyager. It was a nice change of pace to spend most of an episode on a planet. About the only thing I would have liked was an explanation as to why the usually straight-forward Janeway chose covert action to trade for the substance they needed. Was it because the ship was practically helpless and they feared the Mokra would attack? Otherwise, I thoroughly enjoyed all of Kate's and Joel's interactions and felt terrible when he died at the end.

Jen Wallen

I always feel that this was always an underrated episode; this is one of my favourites. Mind you, despite being obsessed with Cabaret and seeing Joel Grey in Anything Goes in 2011 (he was brilliant) it was only recently when I re-watched this for the first time in years I realised he was actually in it! This episode was both brilliantly written and acted.

James Buschell

Yay, I'm finally all caught up. Joined 2 weeks ago and been binging. Thanks to Garrett and Robbie for this fantastic podcast.

Stephanie G Williams

Looooooove this! Y'all are a hoot! 🤣😂😂😋 Also I really love the cartoon versions of the characters that pop up during your vids. Sooooo cute! And "blitoris"?? Really, guys?? LOL! 🤣🤣🤣😘

Jason Wang

It was the late 70's, but I'm still disappointed Doctor Who had a white person (John Bennett) play an Asian part in the Talons of Weng Chiang.

Emily Hansen

Personally I think the real low has to be Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany's. Followed closely by Ricardo Montalban in Sayonara.

Zahara Dessert

I too am totally in love with B'Elanna's boots... <3

Bethany Avery

Agreed. This was an instance favorite for me and I’m already excited for the next one!

Mathew Sands

I just wanted to address Garrett and his comments about Joel Grey. (WHICH HE HAS EVERY RIGHT TO--no judgement)-- I just wish he could separate the man from the performance to give an unbiased review. I thought the episode was VERY good and heartfelt and Joel's performance was beautiful. Does that mean I agree with "whitewashing" HELL NO! --maybe in the 80's they considered that "Asian representation"--I don't know, I haven't seen Remo Williams, and I was born in 85 so I grew up watching 90's shows...like Voyager--ya know where watching a Mexican play an Indian was acceptable. Times change and so do perspectives.

ST Fan CB

Good recap, they are really hitting their stride. This time Garrett was Mr. Cup Half Empty.

Vivian Pau

Is it me or is the camera lens used in this episode softer than the regular ones? Not that I complain but it does contrast Kate and Joel nicely throughout the whole episode. But yeah, the cultural casting was a bit unsettling to watch, coming from a Chinese background. It's always difficult when we see the lack of differentiation in Asians on Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Malaysian, Singaporean etc. BUT, then again, I have seen good actors and actresses protrait in other culture no problem and I buy the story. Guess it all comes down to how believable the acting can get the audience to be immersed in the envionment created by the show or movie.

Christina

I knew Robbie was going to mention Neelix’s cool-looking jacket. Lol I was never a big fan of this episode. The acting is great, I just didn’t care for the story.

Chris Deel

I wonder if Joel might have seemed nervous because of the character he was playing! The character was a very nervous, skittish, somewhat fearful fellow. Do you think he was maybe trying to channel that energy?

Chris Deel

I agree! For some reason I always find this episode so emotional. It’s so well done but kind of heartbreaking. Loved it.

We all have regrets from our past that people won't let us forget even though we have changed and no longer like that. You must realize people do things wrong but you can't let that define who they are especially if they have changed and are no longer that person. I know I am not the same person that I used to be 20 years ago. So maybe forgive Joel?.?.
