The Delta Flyers is a weekly Star Trek: Voyager rewatch and recap podcast hosted by Garrett Wang and Robert Duncan McNeill. Each week Garrett and Robert will rewatch an episode of Voyager starting at the very beginning. This week’s episode is Dreadnought. Garrett and Robbie recap and discuss the episode, and share their insight as series regulars.

Dreadnought:
Torres must re-program a self-guided Cardassian missile when it threatens to annihilate a heavily populated planet.

Ensign Kim should join the show Lower Decks. Still as an Ensign.

Dee McGee

Can we make a Robbie "By the way" t-shirt??

Mark Scheuern

Greetings from the future! You guys were definitely right about AI. And am I the only one who wonders why Dreadnaught needed to maintain an atmosphere? Was it expecting air-breathing visitors?

Jason Self

Tom Paris's being late and showing up with the disheveled look is the beginning of a multi-story arc to find out who the spy is.

Borgscan

Roxann Dawson does go on to provide the voice of a computer in an Enterprise episode "Dead Stop". That computer also had ill intentions. I think she also directed that same episode.

Craig Drebit

Thanks again for another fab ep. The toons were on fire today! Tom and his little hands :-) Speaking of Garrett's coiffed hair - when was the time you were growing it long? Was that between seasons or after the show ended?

AJ Provance

Can you guys get Roxann on the podcast at some point? Can you guys get John DeLancie for "Deathwish"?

AJ Provance

It's been very subtle for a while. Showing up late for shift, doing that one betting pool.

Stephanie Baker

Belanna’s Dreadnought voice could put me to sleep. Great episode. Thank you.

Matt

Garrett isn't wearing a hat in the rewatch...why are you not wearing a hat Garrett? LOL

Matt

Tom's like, "yeah captain, thanks...I'm out!"

Matt

Wait a minute, he's not wearing one during the podcast recording either! What is going on with the universe?!

Matt

I'm interested to hear Garrett and Robbie think back as the whole story line with Tom unfolds in the coming episodes and they remember why he's showing up to shifts late, unkempt, and all of whack.

GAY Kleven-Lundstrom

After watching Voyager over the years in re-watches. I am so enjoying these new takes and insights on the episodes. Thank all of you who put this together especially Robbie and Garrett a big thank you. I look forward to Mondays amidst the pandemic.

Justin Rhoads

Anybody else notice, down to the black collar line, Robbie is practically wearing a TOS uniform in this? It’s even color appropriate!

Gabi Rutledge

Robbie, I feel you with the football; Michigan sucks this year, too.

TheDeltaFlyers

Hi AJ, we always attempt to get guests that are relevant and when appropriate. Unfortunately, not everyone is always available. We also are only in season 2, and do not want to use all of our asks right out of the gate. -Rebecca

Samuel Beardsley

She did direct it! If I’m remembering correctly she recorded the lines for filming and they intended to redo them with another actor, but she did them so well they just kept them as is!

Utopia Science Fiction

You mentioned Janeway's bun of steel seeming to have a life of it's own and now I'm unsure if I'll every be able to look at Janeway's hair again without thinking of it as a sentient creature haha.

KariAnna Bedsole

Can we please get merch that says "It's the Voyager!!" on it??? 10/10 would buy

Heather Kim

All that Tom stuff is foreshadowing, guys!

Irene Artho

So.. Torres remembers all her security codes from 2.5 years ago? "I know all the security codes. I installed them myself." I don't remember my passwords from 2 years ago, I just about recall the current ones. Is her memory that good? Did she write her codes down somewhere (bad for security!), just chose really silly ones (eg 1234) or did she make the mistake to chose the same code for EVERYTHING?

DebbieD

Love Walter stopping by!

Lisa Minnesma

Loved the Q&A part of the video!!! I've always wondered similar questions! So interesting to know that the actor's didn't know ahead of time the reasons for the story arches while filming.

Lisa Minnesma

I love the animated parts inserted into the video and the jokes about the Paris/Torres vs Chakotay moments. Also wanted to say I've re-watched the series many, many times and never viewed the "damned soft voice" comment in that way before! Your guys comments about that made me laugh out loud :) !! This is a total guess but I originally thought the writers were playing with the idea of matching B'lanna with Chakotay in the early seasons but then realized he worked better as a father figure/long-time friend. I'm looking forward to when season 3 is discussed!

William McEvoy

It's a perfectly named episode. The Dreadnought was the name of the original, modern, battleship with massive guns. The Royal Navy created it in 1906 and it changed naval warfare forever.

John Rogers

Great podcast this week. Made me laugh that Robbie and Garrett clearly didn't remember why Tom wasn't brushing his hair or was too deep in engineering. I suspect Robbie will want to retract his do over when he remembers the story line unfolding.

John Rogers

Also, can Robbie please give us a better shot of the view from his apartment window when he does the re-watch next week? It looks like such a nice view

Megan Hurwitt

I absolutely LOVED the extended rewatch footage. I LOVED the impressions Robbie

Megan Hurwitt

Also, I request that all of Robbie's rewatches be done at night because as someone who lives in the downtown district of a major US city, I love looking at the view from your windows.

Harpo1987

I know I'm a bit late with this, but for what it's worth, the dreadnought was originally an extremely powerful British ship in the 16th century, among the strongest and fastest of its day. It had many namesakes throughout history, including a British battleship from the early 20th century, which was considered at the time to be almost overwhelmingly powerful. The term became associated with things that were generally incredibly strong and potentially unstoppable, especially ships. For my favorite usage, it was used by Martin Guitars to name their revolutionary model of acoustic guitar in the early 20th century, which remains one of the standard guitar designs in use today.

Elizabeth webb

This is one of my favorite Torres episodes. She is an awesome character and needs more love.

Mathew Sands

Another great episode for both Voyager and the DFs. A little bummed the admiral question kinda spoiled the story arc for Robbie a bit which you could tell he clearly forgot. The Binge continues!

Rebecca Anderson

I love this episode! B'Elanna is my favorite character, and I love the way that the relationship with Tom grows over time. It really starts in Faces and then the professional rapport they are developing here in season 2 sets the foundation for the flirtiness of season 3.

Jeep Richardson

Just became a Lieutenant, so I'm late to the party. But it's so great watching you guys be confused by Paris's behavior and not remember his 'under cover' arc. :) EDIT: Or perhaps you're just pretending not to remember...?

Cass

I took Tom's advice at the helm as his hesitation to leave, but that he knew the Captain would not be swayed. He did stay after she gave the order to leave, so she had to address him directly with a "NOW!". As for the missile not killing B'Elanna, I thought it was somewhat explainable when the missile thought she was being coerced, but I don't understand why the missile recommended she return to her ship after it thought she had defected. Maybe it sensed she was making progress in her mission to disrupt the missile and was trying to outsmart her? Kind of like positing that the delta quadrant theory could be revisited.

Cass

Completely agree! I loved how their friendship, then romance developed. I also enjoyed each of their friendships with Harry in these early seasons. I actually forgot how often Harry and B'Elanna interacted and the whole Starfleet/Maquis thing.

Cass

I forgot that started early. It answers a lot of their questions surrounding Tom.

ST Fan CB

Good comment! He definitely did NOT just get up and leave and even thanked her for her support. How could RDM literally have just watched the show and misinterpret what he just saw? Crazy!

Amy Warnke

I do love the dog cameos

Christina

This is one of my fave B’Ellana centric episodes. Gives a pretty good back story and her skills while she was Maquis. Trek should use Roxann for the computer voice. She did that so brilliantly. I love how Tom gives Chakotay a hard time. After rewatching Voyager countless times, those scenes make me laugh because I know what’s coming.
