The Delta Flyers is a weekly Star Trek: Voyager rewatch and recap podcast hosted by Garrett Wang and Robert Duncan McNeill. The Doctor's adaptive programming allows him to experience romantic feelings when he treats a Viidian female in advanced stages of the phage.

I have had the great pleasure of dancing with Bob Picardo before I became disabled. And I have to say the man can dance! lead me round the floor as James Darren sang on stage... such a surreal experience :) Oh gosh and I've sung with him too lol

Trulymadly

Great episode that showcased the humanity evolving in the Doctor. Kudos to Robert Picardo for an excellent performance.

You guys are really hitting a great stride with this podcast! I love it. Robbie: Your limerick really hit it out of the park! That was awesome. Any help from Rebecca this week? Wow! I never would have made the connection that it was always a different actress in the diseased makeup. I definitely thought during the dance scene that she didn’t really look like herself, but I wrote that off as being because of the makeup. It’s a little weird to me that at the conclusion, she ends up making literal life decisions based on a relationship that’s just a few days old. I’ve given that some thought, though. In the context of the time she has left to live, they need not be in love for her decision to be a good one for her. Even infatuation could be an awesome way to spend her remaining time. In the end she made the best decision, though. One thing I absolutely loved about this episode is the way they added depth to a race that had previously only been seen as an enemy. On a completely different note: Hey, Garrett, it looks like your scar is healing great! (I have similar scars from a thyroidectomy. They’re visible when you look for them, but the discoloring goes away)

Craig Drebit

Do you guys ever catch any CFL games while up here?

Matt

Matching hats today, is that the first time this has happened? :D

Emily Hansen

I'm thinking it had to be Susan in the makeup at the end, because (spoiler alert) she comes back a few episodes later in full makeup and speaks lines.

Lisa Minnesma

It's really interesting to learn that Susan wasn't the one on the biobed and that it was most likely her double. I never thought of that! They didn't credit her double in imdb so we'll never know haha

Lisa Minnesma

also, did Voyager do table reads after receiving scripts? or was it straight to the set?

Mike Gu

There's such a thing as Laughter Yoga, believe it or not. Tried it once. :)

Utopia Science Fiction

This is one of those episodes I've watched a hundred times and am still deeply touched by it each time, which is a testament to the actors and the story, I think. It's wonderfully done. Thanks for another fantastic podcast!

Stephanie Baker

Thank you for an enjoyable podcast. The A plot (the Doctor) and the B plot (Tom Paris’ messed up hair) intersect when the Doctor asks Tom for romance advice in Sandrine’s (after mildly insulting him). I like Tom Paris’ look: how do I play this? Then he proceeds to give the Doctor critical romance information and resources (the Parked on Mars holoscene). It’s as if Tom Paris is in Sandrine’s feeling bad for himself and his messed up hair, but he generously engages with the Doctor who is in distress.

Love this episode and the podcast. It was nice seeing Danara’s character choose life after Quinn made the opposite choice in the prior episode. I knew I knew Susan Diol (especially her voice) from somewhere, but could not place it and had to look it up. She also guest starred on another show I loved, Christy. It only ran two seasons, but it was based on a novel of the same name by Catherine Marshall. She played the estranged daughter of Tyne Daly’s character, Miss Alice.

Christopher Collins

I like Robert Duncan McNeil's Irish ascent for this limerick.

Stephanie G Williams

Great episode, as always. I just love you guys! 😍 Happy Holidays! 🎄🎁

Jennifer7895

I agree with Garrett the Irish accent made the limerick, embrace the British Isles heritage Robbie ;)

David Blackwell

Just sayin'.... I would buy "Anticipation face" merch 😄🤭 thx for the deep dive into an ep that still moves me just as much on the 2nd watch.

Ernán Ó Domhnaill

Had a good laugh at the Irish accents 😂 I can't wait for the Fair Haven episodes, it will be hilarious.

Bethany Avery

Love this commentary Rich- I’m also in the throat scar club and gotta give a shout out to Mederma scar cream for helping with the discoloration. It also helps to soften the skin if it’s ever feeling tight or hardening. Even nearly a decade out I have to return to using it from time to time. Staying out of the sun is helpful too but then again I’m a Maine girl who burns easy so no tanning for me (I always say I don’t tan I lobster since I burn easy).

Elizabeth webb

The one thing that bothered me with this episode seemed to be the disregard for what B'Elanna went through during faces.

Mathew Sands

One of my favorite episodes. Full of great acting a tender story and great messages.

Christinaof9

I think the message of "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and inner beauty was really prevalent here too. Her face when she saw her old body and her face without the disease was heartbreaking.

Andrew Murray

I think the episode Robbie is referring is "Message in a Bottle" where Voyager makes contact with a Romulan science officer through a micro wormhole; they think he's in the same time as they are by then realise they are communicating with him in the past (200 years in the past) - they actually manage to beam him on board Voyager, he realises their story is true, and on return to his own ship somehow promises to get the message to Starfleet but then Tuvok or someone looks up the history and realises the Romulan died before the message could be delivered (or some other incident that prevented it).

Andrew Murray

As I recall, Paris being insubordinate to Chakotay was all part of the plan in the ongoing sub-plot to sniff out the Marquis traitor who's been sending messages to the Kazon. It culminates with Paris leaving Voyager to join a Talaxian freighter.

Miki Tracey

This episode always got to me. I think it's when I realized I was shallow.

Bronwen Duffield

3 appendectomies in a year or so from 150-ish people? That's quite a high rate. Perhaps the leola root is to blame?

Christina

Great episode, guys! Great moment for the Doctor's ever-expanding character. First love is a wonderful, but difficult experience to navigate. Tom's continued insubordination makes me laugh. I mean, I know WHY he's doing, but it still makes me laugh at how much crap he gives Chakotay.

Rachelle H

True southerners would never put the apostrophe in yall. Lol

Rachelle H

It's funny yall are supportive of the Viidians with how they separate for the phage. When the way they acted with the disease caused them to kill (mass murder) many people. They separate themselves and loss humanity. They forgot how to love and care for yes, even sick people. Let your immunity that God has given at birth work. Trust that your body knows how to fight colds and the flu. We have new technology for different medicines that can help. Less people have died than the lies of the media. We don't need to become the Viidians.

Rachael Etka

Oof. This is pretty tone deaf considering what we've been going through the past 2 years...
