i dont watch kimmel but have watched the matt damon/kimmel saga and it is awesome!!

Kathrine Rieger

also have to say, janeway told kim that in a pinch (or something like that) she'll accept ma'am vs captain, and this instance, it's a pinch so it's ok. also, thought it's funny that she said how much she dislikes ma'am to harry but never flinched when tom said ma'am every episode

Dee McGee

Rebecca: "You know what he won't be announcing? Harry's promotion. " 😂

Chris Flores

Sometimes when they talk about certain scenes I wish they'd show clips so instead I just keep the episode up and find the scene myself. Anyone else do this? I've also been re-watching as we go, having seen Voyager literally 50X it's great to have a whole new way to experience the show. Anyone else do any of this? lol #thankgodforthiswhileiquarentine

Rich Gross

Me 3 seconds into the first “rewatch” scene in Robbie’s apartment: “Holy crap! How many presents are under that tree??”

Kevin Selman

I can’t decide which is better, watching the episode before or after the pod cast. I haven’t tried the hybrid process yet.

Rich Gross

Regarding the fall on the bed: I’ll blame it on the director and/or editor, but it’s not a convincing stunt to me. You can see Paris jump and propel himself up and onto the bed. If they had cut out the split second where he jumps, it would appear as though he had been propelled by an external force.

Stephanie Baker

I want to watch the episodes pre and post, but I only have time for one so I watch beforehand. Someday I will rewatch from Caretaker onward with all this in-depth knowledge and also different manner of watching: thinking about camera angles, the theme, stunts, sets, etc. But like Chris Flores said above, I appreciate possessing this new manner of rewatching. And it applies to all shows including The Expanse, TNG, practically any show. I can feel more grounded in the episode, more ‘present’.

Dustin Snyder

Always loved this episode. It was touching seeing how much Paris & Neelix's relationship has grown. This episode also really sold me on Neelix's handiness. His actions in Engineering saved the day.

Stephanie Baker

Investigations is a Neelix-centric episode. Is Tom Paris’ redemption the A or the B story?

MisterRob

Great episode— seen it many times, but I think this is the first time I got a little choked up watching Tom and Harry embrace before he leaves.. I’m guessing partially as a result of seeing the two of you and your friendship in real life! Can’t wait for next week— I’m with Garrett, Deadlock has always been one of my favorite Voyager episodes of all time, probably in my top 5.

I get why Chakotay was mad that he was left out of the loop but honestly, I don't blame Janeway one bit for keeping him in the dark. It wasn't all that long ago that Chakotay went off on his own to get the transporter technology back from the Kazon. If Janeway didn't have any solid evidence to prove that he wasn't the one communicating with the Kazon, he probably was at the top of the suspect list, at least to start. Even if they didn't believe that he was working with the Kazon against the ship, he still could have been communicating with Seska because of the baby she said was created with his DNA.

Irene Artho

The German and Swiss German pronunciation of spy is the same as the Russian one :D Spelling: Spion

ryeiverr

On the contact with the Kotati question, its actually a different species. The species in Day of Honor is the Caatati. I think the only way to actually tell is from the subtitles though!

Stephanie G Williams

Another awesome podcast, y'all! I hope there are some new shirts made out of this. There needs to be one with Paris on it saying his "Yes Ma'am" line, with a wee trademark thingy after it. 😂🤣😋😘🥰😍

Sonia Singh

I’d say it’s part of the A story - Neelix’s investigations lead him to uncover the truth and Tom’s redemption is one of the revelations resulting from that.

Christopher Collins

I had no idea the Prince of Jordan was even a extra on Voyager. This is the first time I have heard of this. I am surprised this was not on the DVD special features.

Christopher Collins

This was a good Neelix and Paris relationship development episode. This was one of the first time we get an episodes since they were taking care of a baby alien bird like creature where the two are not arguing but Neelix feels compassion and feels responsible for Tom wanting to leave Voyager. I think this was the first time Neelix visited Tom's quarters.

Christopher Collins

I think Deadlock is my favorite episode of season 2 of Voyager. It is the episode I rewatch the most from season 2 of Voyager.

Christopher Collins

Tim Russ character almost hurt or Killed Captain Picard with the same sort of torch in the 6th season TNG episode Starship Mine.

Christopher Collins

We should keep track of how many secrets Janeway of Chakotay keep from each other in Voyager. I think Janeway keeps the most secrets at the beginning of Voyager but as the show goes on Chakotay keeps more secrets from Janeway than Janeway does from Chakotay.

Christopher Collins

I thought of the "Thanks for the Hospitality" was a line similar to John McClain in Die Hard "Welcome to the Party Pal!"

Laura Johnson

Would love to know if Kate would actually watch herself in Deadlock to give some insights/remembrances from filming.

Christopher Collins

I always think that Fire at Will is even funnier when you hear that line on Star Trek The Next Generation because there is William T. Riker so it sounds funny when Picard says it and sounds like he is saying shoot his Number One officer.

Christopher Collins

I agree with Robbie that Шпион Shpion was a bit of a disappointment to learn that is the way it sounds when you think of Russian I was not thinking the word spy would sound like shpion. Almost like Spoon.

Justin Rhoads

To be fair; Janeway told KIM first (in the pilot) that “ma’am is acceptable in a crunch.” And Kim said “yes ma’m” first. To which Janeway replied, “It’s not crunch time yet mister Kim... I’ll let you know when.” Ha

Nancy Lapierre

Dilithium scrubber is the nerf herder of star trek.

Edward Whelan

So here's a nitpick: In the credits, Co-Executive Producers is abbreviated as "Co-Ex Producers" while Megan and Rebecca have the word "Executive" shown in full. I know it's such a tiny detail and hardly worth pointing out, except that you guys have talked previously about how, in Hollywood, attention IS given to the exact way a person is credited on-screen ("James Sloyan as Jetrel").

Luz R

Robbie, & Garrett I am a chameleon with my accents although it tends to happen more with Spanish and less with English. With English my NYC accent tends to be pretty strong.

TheDeltaFlyers

Hi Edward, this was not done intentionally. Our editor simply copied down what I had written in a Google Doc that we share to keep track of Admiral and Captain membership so that the credits can be updated every month to reflect changes. And I had informally shortened it on the Google Doc because I was being lazy. Megan and I have the full version in the title because that was made separate and is a png, not a text that is changeable. We simply did not think to let our Editor know to not shorten it and have not caught the error. It is however written in full in all written descriptions. So, we definitely did not intentionally shorten it for any reason. We very much value our Admirals, they are the reason we are able to produce this show for everyone else.

Megan Hurwitt

Same! I live in a predominantly black area and work in a company that is predominantly black, so I tend to pick up the AAVE vernacular and then feel bad about it.

Moonglade

TNG's "Fire at Will" has been a classic family watch thing for us for decades. Every time anyone says it on any Star Trek incarnation, we all shout, "Duck Will!" or "Look out, Will!" meaning Ryker :D Same sort of thing with Picard's "Make it so". Every time he says it, we always chorus, "Slip-stitch or blanket stitch, Captain?" - unless he's meaning to use the deflector dish for something, then we shout, "You what?! You want it to sew as well?!" Heh, it's the small things. My 'kids' are in their late 20's and early 30's now with kids of their own, and they've continued these traditions :)

Heather Kim

Hey, I just rewatched (I always watch the episode prior to the podcast, but this one had so many moments to watch for, I'm watching it a 2nd time!), and noticed when Tom & Neelix are chatting in Tom's quarters, that Tom has NO STARFLEET SIDEBUrNS! Did he just have them shaved immediately after being relieved of duty, or once he knew he would be put off the ship? Hm?

Trine Våbenø (Triyan)

The russian word Shpion sounds the same as the word for spy in Norwegian, Spion :) This is the first russian word I remember from the lesson, and it's because it's the same in Norwegian :D Language is not my thing, hehe

Roe O'Brien

I think I need a book of all the limericks and haikus once y'all get thru the whole series. LOL

Miki Tracey

I gotta second Robbie and Garret here. I moved frequently in childhood and when I went to the UK in my adulthood I warned people that if I seemed to be copying their pronunciation, I was NOT making fun of them. Of course they dropped challenges on me. There are some completely illegible (il-hearable?) dialects in the UK.

Dead_Alewives

This was a good episode, but it was also the PRIME example of Neelix being insufferable at times. You know it's bad when it almost gets him killed. Also, this episode has a huge plot hole involving Neelix just being able to walk into Paris' room without having any kind of security access or anything. He just strolls right in.

Garrett, you guys are so great, feel free to give us a full nickels worth and not just two cents. The similar names of Jonas and Judas? RDM, the term is flush out not flesh out. Feelings for poor Garrett on his lonely Thanksgiving :-(. He didn't listen to old Chinese (joking) proverb saying - "One bird in hand is better than two in the bush". Or the real invitations are better than the one that MAY be forthcoming. "Old dilithium scrubber = Star Wars "Nerf Herder". I wonder if the writers took inspiration for the Doctor's medical subject he wanted to talk about "Keeping your nostrils Happy" came from ridiculous old Armed Forces Network (AFN) commercials from the early 90s. One of the worst ones I remember was "Your eyebrows, wear them in good health". My worst and best Thanksgiving came in 1993 when I was stationed at Baumholder Germany and my wife has just given birth to our daughter in a local hospital. My wife developed a deep infection in her hip from a shot they had given her and she had to have emergency surgery Thanksgiving eve and spend the next two nights in the German hospital where they spoke little to no English. I went to the Post Commissary and got as many "instant" or canned fixin's (I am from the south as well) as I could for a traditional Thanksgiving meal and made the rest. Heated it up and insulated it as best I could, bundled up my less than 1 month old daughter and drove off in the snowy evening to the hospital where we enjoyed our Thanksgiving meal in the hospital ward's visiting room with the wind and snow howling just outside the window.

It's okay - I notied the chest hair too. XD

My body rejects tofu. It’s almost on the same level as my shellfish allergy. Not good! I absolutely love this episode. It’s one of my faves in all of Star Trek universe. Robbie’s performance is awesome! Love the stunts. Tom redeems himself completely.
