"You had PLENTY of hookups in this episode" hahahahaha

Lot to talk about. Harry pulls shuttle out of his ass. Talk with Dr. Noor.

SnazzyO

Early in S1, Harry said he remembered being in his mother’s womb. If Voyager was more serialized, that could have been a call back to him being non-human. However, I AM glad they kept him human. There was no urge for Harry to find this planet and the Delta quadrant was too far. As for the ladies, it felt very much like ‘Brides of Dracula’. I think Voyager needs a 2-person policy - at least two per away team. Mama Janeway’s protective instincts failed her this time.

Lee Stroud

Just a thought, in the discussion about Kes when she was treating Kim at the beginning and Torres’ teasing with Kim a little later—might they be responding to pheromones being released by Kim’s new genes?🧬

Dee McGee

Robbie always points out that Threshold gets the title of worst episode. For me, that belongs to Fury.

Patreon has problems with the app. It won’t cast to the tv from my phone unless I turn off the sleep function, which runs the battery down. Works fine from the iPad. I have a couple of Patreon artists I follow. It gets frustrating switching back and forth, and there’s no way to switch from one creator to another without scrolling through everything all over. You can’t just pick up where you left off. Ive been told to create separate accounts. I’m not doing all the work. I’m the one paying! I’d probably pay more if they worked in the app. The app is missing some functions that are only in the website. I’ve left feedback before. No updates yet. Sometimes I just delete the app and use the website.

I always liked this episode. It’s creepy in a good way

Bill

LOLOLOL all I see when I see Patrick Fabian is Professor Lasky from Saved By The Bell: The College Years, but then just saw him last month as he was the "good cop" in Bad@$$ with Danny Trejo! 🤣

Bill

I've never seen it, but at first the younger version of him messed me up!

Tashicat

Ngl, it bugs me that during the brief time the crew considers the legitimacy of the story about stasis embryos being true they do not follow up AT ALL by asking if its technology that could be adapted to get Voyager home. just sayin...

James Morrow

Garrett! My dentist here in Vegas is the best! I’d be happy to give you his details if you want them. Hope your temp crown is working fine for ya!

Mary Burch

Tom was the green-eyed monster throughout this episode. ;)

Pınar Schwarz

There definitely IS a moment between Harry and Tom, even if it wasn't intended so. Both give intense romantic looks to the eyes and lips of the other. It was really funny.

Andrew Murray

I would say Kes' 'affection' towards Harry is probably more explained by her bedside manner.

Roland Steiger

Wasn't Cari Shayne supposed to be in this podcast? She announced it on her Instagram

Daniel de Rooy

I think the problem with favourite son is that there isn't any point where the Alien plant seemed like home to Harry. The society didn't seem real or genuine at any point - a place where Harry actually might consider staying. From the first scene when they beam down, it's just weird and you know something's up. If they kept it a bit more mysterious for longer, and the people had a seemingly deeper connection to Harry, then I think, as Lisa Klink's idea was initially, would have given Harry a real dilemma. Do I stay with my home planet and give up on my old home (earth and Voyager)? It didn't really give time for that emotional dilemma to come through. Also, can I just say, why would Harry and everyone believe them when they gave the fake explanation that Harry's alien father TRAVELLED TO EARTH (70-75 years away!). Okay, sure. Like why go to China and pick a flower, when you could go in your backyard and grab one? That just doesn't make any sense at all. Sorry Lisa Klink.

Craig Drebit

A Red Shoe Diaries mention! 🙃😆 How many kids here are too young to remember that show from the 90s?

Jennifer7895

It was a good call not to make Harry an alien because then the story line would have almost been a repeat of Odo's background from DS9. (A baby slime brought to another part of the galaxy to then have a calling to go home to his people in the Gamma quadrant). I'm not sure on the time line of DS9 and Voyager episodes, but they are VERY similar in idea.

Is Harry Human? Seduced for reproduction Must escape ladies ~ Robbie An urge to return home takes over Harry. Taresia welcomes him, he’s legendary. It’s all one big ruse, his life he might lose, Beamed out real quick so there’s no need to marry. ~ Garrett

Sony

“Toothless in Topeka?” Garrett just described the Westboro Baptist Church. 🥁🥁💥

Sony

After looking up Patrick Fabian I was surprised to see he played Howard Hamlin in Better Call Saul because I didn’t recognize him at all. It’s also funny that you mentioned Marvin Rush also directed “The Thaw” (one of my favorites) because the actor who played the “Fear Clown” (Michael McKean) was Hamlin’s business partner Chuck McGill on Better Call Saul. Synchronicity.

Sony

Good catch by Harry noticing the Nasari ship has the same name as the Romulan vessel “Narada” responsible for starting the Kelvin Timeline from the singularity.

GAY Kleven-Lundstrom

I love your interviews with Lisa Klink and Mohamed Noor. I learned something new. Thank you Robbie and Garrett and your crew.

Sony

I'm an 80s and 90s kid and literally never heard of that show. It must've been on cable because we just had basic television.

Sony

“B'Elanna was totally flirting with Harry” “She was totally flirting with you” Lol It’s called BANTER. Those “Cute speckled Targ” and “Spot” comments were just playful jokes. B’Elanna was trying to lighten the mood when Harry felt guilty.

sab ewell

Hahahaha right?! Also I've always viewed their relationship as a brother/sister platonic friendship. She teases him like siblings tease each other. Even with nicknames 😂 I had two brothers so I should know ... But here yes absolutely agree she knows he blames himself so she's just lightening things by making a joke to tease him.

Sony

Thanks for having Lisa Klink and Mohamed Noor on your show. I’ve seen a few of Dr. Noor’s videos on youtube and I’m wondering why he isn’t as big as Bill Nye or Neil deGrasse Tyson. Talk about charisma. It’s fascinating to hear him talk about biology, genetics and the sciency events in Star Trek. His enthusiasm is .. contagious. 🥁

Mohamed Noor

Aw, that's INCREDIBLY kind-- thank you so much! If you're at the Vegas convention next month, please stop me and say hi sometime!

TheDeltaFlyers

Thanks for the offer. I was able to make it out to my dentist in LA. They fixed the temp and have a permanent one being made for me. ~ Garrett

TheDeltaFlyers

Great catch. We actually have something recorded and edited with her, but it won't be released with the episode.

Hannah Swartzel-Rausch

Garrett I totally see that final scene as being oddly a romantic/ kissing set up between tom and Harry BUT I think I mostly saw it because of all the extended kissing between everyone earlier in the episode.

Kassandra

Great talk and great guests, I really enjoyed the interviews. So interesting to get to know more about the scientific background of the plot here. I hope to see more Dr. Noor talks as well as with the writers like Lisa Klink. I definitely need to check out more of Dr. Noons videos on YT.

Karen Chuplis

Gotta reiterate….I loooove the picture play at the end of these. 😂😂😂 Young Ensign Punctual.

I am not a Merry Man

Is anyone else having problems with playing the downloads? I can play them from the app but if I download it’s just spins and spins. Where I work doesn’t have good signal so I have to listen to downloads

Rich Gross

I agree that the kissing and other physical affection was overkill. To Garrett’s point, though: It’s not about whether the scene is overkill or not. It’s about having parity with comparable scenes featuring males of other ethnicities. That said, even within that context, I still think the affection and innuendo in this episode is a bit much. Even compared to the TNG Risa episodes, this one is pretty risqué.

Rich Gross

Hey! Just noticed that Lisa Klink is in the podcast credits as a supporter at the Producer level! How nice!

Eric Bennett

Does anyone else have trouble with the video freezing? I am having this problem every week it seems. Right now it froze at the 44:39 mark. I can rewind and it will play and then stop at the same point. It is not an Internet problem. In previous weeks I've had this problem and I come back the next day and it plays again. It is quite frustrating.

K

Yay it’s a Lisa Klink chat!! I always feel like she has more she didn’t get to say. Love it when she’s on the podcast.

Robert Yamaguchi

I like Garrett's discussion on how this episode was groundbreaking for Asian actors. I has been a long journey from the Charlie Chan, a white actor to James Shigeta, Kung Fu's David Carradine, a white actor, to Sulu, to Garrett and now Kung Fu with an asian cast.

Roy Spaan

Robbie, I'm sorry but that painting creeps me out every time I see it XD What's the story behind that? I'm guessing it ISN'T supposed to depict a creepy alien with a bloody face.

Sony

I believe that painting is called "Beloved radioactive mutant" and depicts the beginning of Paris' transformation in Threshold.

María José Rodríguez Gómez

Second podcast and I must say that I’ve enjoyed it a lot, thank you again to Robert and Harry, Rebeca and Megan and the rest of the people who makes it possible. About the credibility of the story, that society, although strange, could be possible. The praying mantis (Mantis religiosa) is a solitary insect that only seeks a mate during the mating season. In most cases, during and after mating, the female eats the male. I couldn’t avoid thinking about that very early during the episode, so I knew Harry was going to be eaten in a way or another. That drug they wanted to inject Harry with, which theoretically had no side effects, was also a good idea from my point of view. From the outside we see that Taymon only thinks about sex and pleasure, as if men had nothing else on their minds but sex and pleasure. But that drug could be something like pheromones. Pheromones are chemical substances secreted by living beings in order to provoke specific behaviors in other individuals of the same species. species, both to attract or repel each other sexually and for other purposes. Taymon could have been too contaminated with pheromones to be able to think about anything else but sex and pleasure. But I agree that the story could have been told in a less sexual way, which ends up being uncomfortable. Stories never benefit from being explicit. When you seek not to be explicit, but to tell things in a different way, stories end up having a greater expressive richness and tend to be more impactful and leave a stronger impression on the viewer. That’s my opinion. I was thinking of a scene from the movie Two Much, starring Antonio Banderas, Melanie Griffith and Daryl Hannah, directed by Fernando and David Trueba. Antonio Bandera's character is going to have sex with Daryl Hannah's character, but instead of explicitly showing it, we see him take off his fiancé ring. The ring falls to the ground and the camera follows it as it rolls. It falls through a crack and ends up in the courtyard, where a group of Cubans are playing lively music. And that's the end of the scene, but we all know what's going on. I thought it was great and in fact it's the only scene in the film that I remember. It's a good example of how to tell things differently.

María José Rodríguez Gómez

By the way, I’ve enjoyed a lot the conversation with Dr Noor, specially how easy is always to use retrovirus if you want to explain how a character gains a characteristic (much more believable than the way Marvel mutants get their powers, I agree!).

David McMullen

From the get go it seems Harry is more interested in finding out what happened to him then going back home to this planet. Then on a planet full of beautiful women that want him he is more interested in what's going on and what's wrong then the women. My do over is Harry shows more of a interest in going to the planet. More interest and enjoyment in the Pleasures of the women on the planet. He's just to Duty bound. Doesn't he like or know how to romance women. How did he get such beautiful girlfriend back on earth and keep her

Christinaof9

If anyone has watched the original Star Trek, half naked alien women touching the captain is just par for the course LOL, this is just Harry’s Captain Kirk moment! 🤣

Joseph Zodda

As a young man when this first aired I was very jealous of Harry and wanted to go to this planet immediately till we find out the truth of it. It was almost jarring to see Patricia Tallman there just to swing that stick since she is so well known for B5 by now. Back then? I had no idea who she was.

Chris Flores

I very much want you guys to watch the finale Endgame together, in the same room and please live stream the entire thing. I'll pay!

Jeremy Taylor

Such a pleasure to see Lisa. It's great to hear a writer's perspective. Lisa always provides good insight and is just awesome in every way.

Julie Miller

I didn't realize Robbie was in Six Degrees of Separation. I saw that play! And who knew you guys were such prudes? It's kind of hilarious. Oh, no this is SEXUAL. The horror! That's really where you are at? Wow.

Paul Johnston

The idea of Harry being an alien could have been interesting and changed the dynamics of not only what was to come but the last 3 years already. Reminds me of the DS9 Bashir story where he has been genetically enhanced around Season 5. Was very interesting but it suddenly has you thinking about 5 years worth of story and dialogue- does this make sense?

Samantha

The ep was fine for me until they got onto the planet. Then it felt claustrophobic and repetitive.

ST Fan CB

I first saw these whackos circa 1999-2000 when I was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. Went to Topeka with my family to see the Nutcracker Ballet along with my daughter's ballet class. Saw all these crazy homophobic people protesting outside with horrible slogans and signs not fit for public against the ballet. Didnt know who they were then, but later did some research. Too bad their kind of crazy has only gotten worse in this day and age rather than wither on the vine and die like it should.

Megan Moore

The touching on the planet doesn’t bother me at all. They are just a very touchy feely race. If Harry had asked them to stop and they didn’t then I would have a problem. I enjoy this episode, it’s fun. I didn’t mind all the kissing. It went well with the story. These women think they can use their looks and sensuality to trap men. And Harry doesn’t fall for it!

Mark Kuether

I love Robbie's Haiku. "Must escape ladies!" LMAO!
