The Delta Flyers is a weekly Star Trek: Voyager rewatch and recap podcast hosted by Garrett Wang and Robert Duncan McNeill. Each week Garrett and Robert will rewatch an episode of Voyager starting at the very beginning. This week’s episode is Worst Case Scenario. Garrett and Robbie recap and discuss the episode, and share their insight as series regulars. This week they are joined for the entire recap and bonus material by the incomparable, and always amazing Martha Hackett, who portrayed Seska on Voyager.

Worst Case Scenario:
Crew members discover a secret holographic novel programme depicting Seska and the Maquis leading a rebellion aboard Voyager.

It would be nice if they had Jennifer Lien on the podcast, especially since they have such high praise for her acting. Probably doesn't happen, though.

RemiTheNerd

Garrett You're just so jealous that other's have their uniforms! You know Kate has hers too?!!

SnazzyO

Loved this episode. Excellent podcast with Martha as well. It’s not just the actors they were poking at, it’s also themselves (I’m sure there were disagreements in the writer’s room), and fandom. I think it was all in good fun. And I love T2 team ups.

LT Turner Jr

This was so much fun to watch. Love Martha!

Sunehri_Hotaru

I feel like the losers were the Voyager Crew because they were really enjoy that holonovel and I’m guessing Tuvok never opened it up to finish it after the Seska sabotage. I also agree that the Voyager fans were the loser because Seska 100% was the best guest star! It would have been a great twist if she’d ended up being assimilated and becoming the Borg Queen so she could keep following them, lol. She would have made a great Borg Queen

Sunehri_Hotaru

But hey, at least she has a really awesome epic officer now in the game Star Trek Fleet Command. Kes doesn’t even have an officer and she was a regular cast member. Tom and Harry are in there but only as rare officers. Though they are excellent.

Sunehri_Hotaru

This is one of my favorite of all Voyager episodes ever.

Stephanie Baker

Tom Paris looks better in the red uniform

Slayrogen101

Great episode! Loved having Martha on! Even for the special scenes at the end! Thanks so much!

Andrew Murray

It was a fun episode for the fact it deviated a little from "the norm" and reintroduced characters that had been and gone. Of course it's one of those "holodeck malfunctions" episodes but slightly different with the twist being Seska.

Andrew Murray

I would have thought..."Holonovel intrigues the crew" (as in they wonder who wrote such a compelling "story").

Andrew Murray

Class-2 shuttle otherwise known as (in Tuvok's terms) "Mr Paris, we're not building a Hot rod". Wasn't 'Threshold' the first to feature ...Delta Flyer?

Andrew Murray

"Tuvom" not another one of those transporter incidents!

Andrew Murray

As far as getting Voyager home, the final "End Game" episode should have been Voyager defeats the Borg Queen and then actually finds the second Caretaker array, that sends them home maybe the other side of the Gamma Quadrant wormhole or something, so they come through that, and the closing scene is docking with DS9.

Andrew Murray

Just remember with your holonovel, just remember to make sure the computer is instructed to create the nemesis capable of defeating HOLMES not DATA (I'm looking at you GEORDI!)

Vikki Williams

Definitely. I don’t think the gold uniforms suit blond(e)s particularly well, it does wash them out.

Liam Hanks

I agree that Seska should have stayed around! That said, I wasn't a fan of the Kazon/Seska alliance. She should have been on the ship, working against the crew to her own ends... never getting caught (until the end of the series).

Liam Hanks

Nope. Delta Flyer didn't come along until after Seven joined (that's why it had Borg technology). Robbie was right about Threshold being the intro of the newer, sleeker Class-2.

Cody Caudill

I really enjoy having Martha on. She provides a lot of great insights and it really comes through that she genuinely enjoys the show and loved her time on it. Please have her back again!

sab ewell

Robbie, let me assure you of one thing, the way you and Roxann played that moment in the mess hall with Tuvok there has always been so perfect to me. The irony of it all. Even back before we knew how it would end, we knew it was more realistic than they knew 😂. Anyways I love all the cute P/T banter in this episode and that scene always makes me laugh and say to my screen: you have no idea haha

Lisa Minnesma

Just to settle the debate of "A" Vulcan or "OF" Vulcan, I watched it with subtitles on and Tuvuk did indeed say OF Vulcan :)

Jonathan Day

Always a pleasure seeing Martha Hackett!

Kathleen Scherrman

I practically spewed my coffee when Robbie said he was a "summer". Ha. I thought that to myself last week too. I remember in the late 80's getting your "colors" done was big deal.

Craig Main

Neelix says he asked ‘everyone he can trust’ if they knew the author. I now want to know who he doesn’t trust

Lisa Minnesma

Loved having Martha on the entire time! Seska's one of my favourite villains!

Karen

I always thought this episode should be subtitled "or what would happen if Seska wrote fanfiction?" She got to be smarter than all the main characters and she got to make out with the hot male lead. : )

Albert Smith

Robbie should be grateful being side by side in the Jeffries tube thus avoiding gasious anomalies form Tuvok, just sayin' 🖖🏼

G. B.

I always thought Ensign Kim’s inability to operate the transporter in times of need was a running theme for the writers throughout the series. I mean, this wasn’t the first episode and won’t be the last. :)

Karen Chuplis

Oh October Sky is SO GOOD. I hope you all get to watch it. It's just a wonderful movie.

GAY Kleven-Lundstrom

"Seska" was a great villain portrayed by the wonderful Martha Hackett. I hope you have her on again in Season 7 I believe as she returns in another episode. I always felt this was just a hurry up fill-in episode before the season finale. But my love for this episode grew leaps and bounds after listening to your podcast and rewatching the episode. Thank you to everyone involved.

John Skinner

I really like it when Robbie starts with "I think it has to do with the holodeck" is always followed by "taken over by aliens?" Every time lol

Christopher Collins

I love that post credit with I am going to put on my I love Seska shirt on.

Christopher Collins

I like October Sky’s. It came out in theaters by Universal Studios in 1999.

Christopher Collins

It would have been interesting if when they took over Voyager and Seska would have survived from the attack instead of died and keep Seska onboard the ship and try to figure out what to do with her once she is imprisoned.

Christopher Collins

I thought it was interesting hearing how infrequently Rick Berman came to set. So much that the cast has a shirt saying I am friends with Rick Berman.

Christopher Collins

I think it is so cool that Margret’s kids purchased her costume from the episode Worst Case Scenario. That is so cool. I would have never thought that the costume would shed.

Christopher Collins

I was not aware that director David Livingston would have to be told constantly that they only had so much time to work on a scene before they had to move on. It does not surprise me with the different camera experiments he would do with different camera lenses or effects with the camera based upon what I have seen him talk about on TNG-Voyager episodes on the visual look to the story telling.

Christopher Collins

Is there any way you could interview Alexander Singer? I was looking on IMDB and saw that he is now age 93 so I am not sure how he is doing these days or how well his health or memory is. I do not recall hearing him talk about his directing decisions on the Voyager DVD Special features.

Christopher Collins

It is interesting in the last few episodes till Scorpion Kes's screen time is really small. I am not sure if the writers even by the end of season 3 had already made up their minds to not get the audience more invested in Kes by keeping her role minimal.

Tashicat

I squeed when you mentioned Homer Hickam Jr cant lie. i made my HS teacher buy Rocket Boys for the classroom... I busted a gut at the part about his mom's fence n my classmates looked at me weird lmfao...in case u ever were interested, he wrote sequels too...starting with "The Coalwood Way" just fyi :)

Jeremy Taylor

It is so great to see the beautiful & amazing Martha Hackett on the podcast!

D. H.

Thank you for getting Martha for the whole episode! I couldn’t be happier! 🥰

Sony

Marquis vs Starfleet A story left unfinished Tom and Tuvok team ~Robbie Holonovel enchants the crew Seska added changes, who knew? Tuvok and Tom want out, Lives in danger, no doubt, Phaser backfires on Seska *pew pew* ~ Garrett

Sony

Thanks for having Martha Hackett on, she was brilliant as Seska. Imagine how epic it would've been if she wore her Marquis outfit on the podcast.

Sony

“Do you think the writing of Seska’s character strayed a bit from those vaunted dictates of poetics? Where did all those crazy skills of the character come from other than the needs of the plot?” ~ one of the Admirals No. She was Cardassian. 'Nuff said, watch DS9 and you'll know what I'm talking about.

Sony

Garak to Bashir: Tell me, Doctor. Is there a single trait would you ascribe to me and to my fellow Cardassians? Would it not be our attention to detail? Do you think we simply forgot about those poor little orphans when we left Bajor? Do you think they simply slipped from our minds? And who would you guess was in charge of the Cardassian withdrawal from Bajor? Garak to Deela: Oh, the Cardassians are quite meticulous record keepers, Madame. They've taught many worlds, including this one, how to keep records. I find it difficult to believe that none exist from that time period. Certainly computer entries made on a regular basis.

Sony

If you think Janeway’s decision to allow the holonovel to be completed was “a bad idea that could put the crew in jeopardy”, just wait until you see the next episode, Scorpion part 1..

Len

What made Paris know that he had called the Rokani for help? He’s real. Not a holographic character Janeway could reprogram 🤨

James Williams

For me one of the most interesting aspects of this episode is seeing what Tuvok, as the author of the holonovel/training program, thought about the rest of the crew and his beliefs as to how members of the crew might have acted in such a situation. Of particular interest I think is how he sees Paris remaining loyal to Janeway.

Christopher Collins

What are you talking about. Janeway puts the crew at risk several times. Scientific Method, Equinox, Deadlock, The Year of Hell, several Borg episodes.

Utopia Science Fiction

Thank you for such a wonderful podcast as always! Very glad to see Martha join the podcast as well. Such a great episode!

Len

No spoilers of course if such a thing is possible, but I really can’t wait for next week and part one of Scorpion. Yeah it’s great and all but that “Species 8472 music” never did anything for me

Len

Da da DA da da da da da da da a da Da da da da da…

Len

🤨

Christinaof9

Awesome having Keska as a guest host!! Do this more often! Please get Jeri Ryan omg. Speaking of....I am so freaking excited for the review of these next 3 episodes, some of my favorites are here! 😀

Sony

I know exactly what you're talking about (and I rarely notice the music in the background). My childhood friend's sister, who had a slight mental disability, would always play the same thing on my little Casio keyboard and I swear on my life THAT was it! The same notes and rhythm. Da Da Da dadada Da dadada Da. And this was before Voyager aired. It's like the composer orchestrated her thing. In my head cannon she wrote the theme music to Species 8472. 🎹 😂

Andrew Murray

that would be Seska....and yes pls have Jeri R. as guest especially for upcoming scorpion I & II

Eric Bennett

Having Martha as a guest host is fantastic. Only one more episode with her, season 7's Shattered, so hopefully they have her back then. The next three episodes, Scorpion parts 1 / 2 and the Gift are quite the trilogy of episodes. I would be curious how much they get into Jennifer Lien leaving the show. What the cast knew about her leaving. When they found out. Did she share that she was disappointed or ???

Eric Bennett

Robbie and Garrett are great and I love this podcast... but the guests take a great podcast into a while new level.

Taisho Rose

I love how you had Martha on for the entire review! I understand most guests probably don't have enough time in their schedules to stick around for the entire podcast, but I just love to hear them as part of the entire discussion and play the games like "Winners and Losers." Thank you, Delta Flyers for a truly excellent podcast episode!

Vesta Charleshouse

Great episode and one of my fave episodes to begin with! Please can we have more episodes with guests as they bring a whole new perspective.

Rebecca Anderson

I agree that Robert is a summer, and does not look good in gold. Blondes can either be warm toned or cool toned so some blonds will look good in gold and some will look horrible! Martha is definitely a warmer skin tone, probably an autumn :-) I love color theory, lol!

Rebecca Anderson

Also adore the P/T flirting in this episode. The second half of season 3 is probably my fave section of the series because of the relationship development

Tiffiny Lawrie

I took the fact that people "walking towards walls" when they were clearing the quarters as the people were nervously pacing back and forth because they were locked in and there was a mutiny in progress 🤷🏻‍♀️ Also, I'm with Robbie on this one, the gold does not work great on him.

ST Fan CB

My question would be: even though both of you are famous and celebrities, meeting what other person would leave you totally star struck?

ST Fan CB

I heard "of Vulcan"

ST Fan CB

Absolutely correct. Why can't people be pacing? Simple enough explanation except for Mr. "Nickpicker about nothing" RDM.

Rach V

I could not disagree more with Garrett about yellow and fair skinned folk/blonds. I am a full on English rose with blonde hair and I absolutely cannot wear yellow or orange at all; it does not work even a little bit and it clashes with my cheeks. I'd be best in the science blue; I think I'd just about manage the red but only because of the particular shade used. I think that the yellow suits those who wear it in the show. I also fundamentally disagree with Garrett's Kim-Torres thing. I'm sorry but Kim is way too much of a wuss to take on a Klingon. Those characters make good friends but there is no spark at all.

The Real Andrew Kim

*ref whistle* FLAG ON THE PLAY!!!...."Ma-quis ver-sus star-fleet" is 6 syllables... 5 yard penalty to Robbie

The Real Andrew Kim

*ref whistle* FLAG ON THE PLAY!!!...."Ma-quis ver-sus star-fleet" is 6 syllables... 5 yard penalty to Robbie

Patrick M

I'll 2nd that.. before even listening to the podcast I said ' Paris in gold?? Blah"

Megan Moore

Seska and Tom and a scene together in the episode where her and the Kazon kidnap him from the Talaxians. That’s the first scene that popped into my head with the two of them.

Amber Holguin

I feel like this could be viewed from a fanfiction writers perspective instead of a TV writer. There's a lot they mention of writing the nolonovel that goes into writing fanfiction. How you have to keep in line with the already developed character. Also how some writers like to go for shock value and stray from the normal characteristics of a character.
