The Delta Flyers is a weekly Star Trek: Voyager rewatch and recap podcast hosted by Garrett Wang and Robert Duncan McNeill. Each week Garrett and Robert will rewatch an episode of Voyager starting at the very beginning. This week’s episode is Worst Case Scenario. Garrett and Robbie recap and discuss the episode, and share their insight as series regulars. This week they are joined for the entire recap and bonus material by the incomparable, and always amazing Martha Hackett, who portrayed Seska on Voyager.

Worst Case Scenario:
Crew members discover a secret holographic novel programme depicting Seska and the Maquis leading a rebellion aboard Voyager.

Another tipoff that it was the holodeck in the beginning was that Chakotay called her "Ensign" on the bridge, but she's a lieutenant.

Commander Connor

Can we please get I ❤️ seska shirts because we all do in fact ❤️ her haha

Jonathan Kui

outstanding episode! By the way, how about "Tomvok" as a portmanteau?

On the subject Robbie brought up about the shifting “camera” angles on the view screen: The way I imagine the view screen is it’s a 3D representation of who you’re talking to. The change in angle is based on where you ’re standing in relation to the view screen, that if it were real you’d have the illusion of looking thru a window at the other person who might follow you, and the computer would track those actively speaking. That and I’m sure the Operations officer can assist in angle and zoom too, most likely. Not to jump ahead, but in the “Year of Hell” we see that Voyager has a damaged or destroyed view screen likely due to being hit too many times, and beyond the “black” we normally see, it’s actually exactly like a holodeck grid! It’s a very interesting choice by the set designers, and that’s why I have always imagined it less as a flat screen, and way more like a holodeck screen in that it shows a really realistic visual of who you’re talking to.

To comment on getting people from their quarters, and why are they “walking to nowhere”? They are pacing the room because they are locked in their quarters. 😊

Jak Greymoon

Yeah that’s exactly what I was thinking. They didn’t understand why they were suddenly locked down in their quarters. It’s quite easy to pace in a 1meter spot when you’re worried about what’s going on.

So many good thoughts about this recap! Loved Martha Hackett of course. So delighted to find out Robbie got to meet and talk to Homer Hickam during the making of Voyager. Also, I think Robbie looks equally great in gold and red.

Jennie Marie

Great pod episode! So cool that Martha came to play!

It's funny how you actors forget what happened during an episode, because of course you are so busy when you're making them and you immediately move from one to the next without getting a chance to reflect. OTOH, us fans watch them a billion times so we know *everything.* So for instance, Robbie and Martha did have another scene together; I think it was the episode where Tom left Voyager and got captured by Seska and the Kazon. Seska was pregnant and Tom said, sarcastically, "Hello, Seska. You're looking radiantly maternal." But I think it was a pretty quick scene, so easily forgettable. I am in the anti-yellow camp. Yellow only looks good on winters. (My mom was really into that color stuff in the 80s so I know a little about it, but not enough to determine someone else's color.) I am semi-blond and look quite awful in every yellow, sadly. I don't think Robbie looks good in it but I actually think Garrett looks fine in yellow, not pasty at all. OTOH, Miles O'Brien looked pretty good in yellow so maybe some blonds can pull it off. And if we're putting it to a vote, I do like Tuvom. Both the name and the combination of characters.

Elisabeth Westner

And oh yeah, one more thing: Stephen Hawking was on an episode of TNG which is why he would've been on set. You probably knew that, but anyway it's really cool that Robbie got to meet him. (Sorry Garrett.) Fun fact: Stephen Hawking is the only person in the history of Star Trek who has gotten to play himself on the show! (Although if you're going to be technical he was actually playing a hologram of himself but I think it still counts.)

Actually, I would like to hear the black market story about Robbies ST uniform 😅😉🤔

Justin

Did we get Garret or Martha’s rating for the episode?

Jim O'Malley

If I'm not mistaken, Harry doesn't solve anything. Seska set the program to disable all routes of escape from the holodeck once Tuvok reopened the program to add to it and so when the program resolved itself those blocks were automatically removed

Horatio Moradi

Love this episode. But guys, Robbie again becomes so quiet. Can we do something about the sound quality / consistency? :)

TheDeltaFlyers

Hi Horatio, There was a short time where the guys mics adjusted differently. We did notice this, and it does get fixed, and the sound quality and consistency changes.

Horatio Moradi

Thank you so much for responding! I feel much better knowing it's a temporary issue. Keep up the great work and thank you for such a lovely podcast.
