This is my favourite haiku from Robbie so far.

I was in 6th grade when this episode aired and I had not previously heard the fable before. Since then I've heard it again/slightly differently, but Chakotay's telling of it set a bar so high that I have not heard better.

LT Turner Jr

Great episode. Towards the end, when the question came up about impressions. I remember Garrett mentioning that the actress that played Ensign Wildman use to do a great Janeway impression.

Jake Luna

I took Janeway looking at the wall which gave her the borg idea from the layered look of the shadows being reminiscent of borg tech

Dawn and Aeryn

Rewatching with The Gremlin (kid) and they were SO EXCITED (a full jump up, point, and "Mon! Pause it! Rewind it! ) that Robbie "PLAYS SKIPBO TOO! OMG he is so waffllelicious. "

Dee McGee

Janeway: Imitating the captain. Surely that violates some Starfleet protocal. Garrett: Boy am I in trouble! I remember Harry's single tear 😢

K

Cool hat! Was hoping we’d get to see it! I’m going to have ‘The Final Countdown’ in my head the remainder this watch 😂.

bakura

So hope you guys get jeri ryan on the podcast next week, I don't care if its for the interview at the end or to review it with you I just would love to see her on the podcast to talk about it.

Andrew Murray

Should have been "Ensign KIM does a pretty good Janeway". I can see Darth Vader (to Species 8472): "The ability to destroy a planet, is nothing next to the power of the Force!".

Andrew Murray

Garrett, you must inherit traits from Hoshi from "Enterprise" - who WAS the "universal translator" for the time.

Andrew Murray

I thought that gadget that yanks the actor back was a "retractor" - commonly used when explosions are involved. Sort of like the "descender" (maybe the same equipment) for a stunt double or actor "falling" from a building.

Andrew Murray

The book with the snake is "Genesis" ;-).

Andrew Murray

Still think the "battle bridge" on the Enterprise-D is darker (in terms of lighting) than even Voyager at Red Alert.

Bonnie Chiaccio

While I am sorry to get ready to see Kes go, 7 was a fantastic addition to the cast. Great review!

Daniel

Just a guess but Netflix sometimes defaults to Dolby Vision even for non HDR content, so it can make SDR content seem darker

Caryn Mellom

I'd totally buy a series finale hat with some autographs on it!

Karen Chuplis

My head canon for why bridges darken is power is diverted to shields and weapons. But yeah, dramatic.

Dawn Smith

I saw your tear HARRY! Well done! I definitely noticed it without prompting!

GAY Kleven-Lundstrom

Was part 1 and part 2 filmed back to back? Or was their a break in filming. I tried doing a internet search, but nothing came up. Thanks everyone

Dawn Smith

BTW as far as saying "sense sore" Instead of sensor, I am rewatching TOS and they say that a LOT! esp Spock

Stephanie

Just want to say I really enjoy the mini "photo plays" after the credits.

Heather Irwin

I assumed the reason the lights dimmed at red alert was to force one's eyes to adjust ahead of time in the event of power loss/some smoke from the danger the ship is about to encounter. My mental image of a sketch of species 8472 taped to a broomstick is hilarious. That's the kind of thing I'd want to take from the set if I was a regular. :-D

Miki Tracey

In case you don't play star trek online you know, because you have actual lives...8472 are called the Undine. You know, because they're from fluid space? Your actual first mission you end up fighting one on P'Jem.

James G. Jones

Should do a Delta Flyers podcast finale hat for when that unfortunate day comes.

Stephanie Baker

They were not filmed back to back. I don’t think it was clear who (both character and actor) was joining the cast when they finished filming Scorpion the first part.

Tashicat

There IS a fable about a fox, a crow and piece of cheese if thats somehow relevant...

Daniel de Rooy

Don't try to frighten us with your sorcerer's ways Lord Vader. Your sad devotion to that ancient religion has not helped you conjure up the stolen nano-probes, or given you clairvoyance enough to find The Voyager.

Karen

I always assumed that they dimmed the lights because power was being shunted to important things like shields, weapons and sensors. Basically, those take up so much juice that they have to reduce power from other places and the lights just happen to be one of those systems that get turned down.

Karen

I always felt like this episode was an attempt to interject some internal conflict into the happy Starfleet/Maquis family. It seemed like that was supposed to be a bigger part of the show but somewhere along the line, they decided to ignore that the Maquis were rebels, scoundrels and criminals that despised Starfleet and just let everyone get along. So here we are in season three and we're reminded (via Worst Case Scenario) that a Maquis-led mutiny was a (theoretical) concern and that Chakotay was the (potential) "bad guy" before he turned into the model Starfleet officer. And now he's disagreeing with the Captain so much that they actually get into a shouting match over her decision. He kept it between them, but this was the first time that they had ever had a major disagreement about how to run their ship and protect their crew. Especially after her heartfelt declaration of "friendship" (Like Robbie, I'm a total J/C shipper so by "friendship" I really mean undying love), it was sad to see them argue in a way that you could believe would permanently damage their relationship.

Erica Larabee

"Am I making you hungry?" I literally threw my head back and laughed SO hard! hahahaha Well played, Garrett, well played.

Taisho Rose

After watching the post-credits scene I realized... Just like how Harry wasn't in sickbay when Tom died inThreshold, Tom never visited Harry while he was dying in this episode!!! :.(

Christopher Collins

Scorpion Part 1 & 2 has to be my top favorite episodes of Star Trek Voyager.

Christopher Collins

I never had a problem with how long it took Chakotay to tell the Scorpion and Fox story in Scorpion Part I. I think it worked well. I saw this two parter at 7 or 8 years old and I had never heard the story until watching this episode. I think the length of time and walking around the room works well.

Kayla LaFrance

Random - As an avid hat collector and wearer myself. I LOVE seeing you two in different hats all the time. :-)

Denise Yee

Personally, I loved that Chakotay took the time to tell the Scorpion story. At the time, I had never heard it before, and I think the point would have been less impactful to me if the writers had tried to shorten it. I mentioned this already in a FB post, but I had the opportunity to tell this story in sign language for an exam in an ASL class I took four years ago, and I was bursting with nerdy excitement when I saw that The Scorpion and the Frog story was an option for my test 😁 (Yes, I know Chakotay said the fox, but the story is essentially the same)

Christinaof9

I thought Species 8472 looked terrifying when I was a teenager watching this and I still think they do! Considering it was the 90’s it was a great job at creating a horrifying and captivating new villain, definitely the best villain that originated on the series (not counting the Borg but they didn’t originate on Voyager. These two episodes bring back so much nostalgia for me and lead into my favorite, Voyager, or actually all of Star Trek and maybe sci-fi period , episode of all time THE GIFT! Please have Jeri Ryan on!!!! 😀🥰😁

Regarding liquid nitrogen, I assume you work with some kind of safety. Liquid nitrogen displaces oxygen, so in confined spaces it is especially dangerous. In the lab we have pumps to evacuate the nitrogen gas that is generated with liquid nitrogen, and yet an inadvertent leak almost knocked out one of our technicians, who had left the microscope door closed (instead of leaving it open, which is what you have to do when working with liquid nitrogen, so that there is always an oxygen supply). I wanted to comment on this just in case.

Kris Hansen

I am glad that Species 8472 does not have a name. I often forget the names of species that we don't see regularly. "Species 8472" immediately reminds me that this is the species that whupped up on the Borg. I agree with @Garrett Wang--it makes them scarier.

Moonglade

I think Scorpion 1 & 2 are my all-time fav Voyager episodes. So much going on and yes, so much J/C to enjoy - even their argument is mesmerising. Every character has something effective to do, the plot and the writing is great, finally there's an alien threat that is a real danger to our crew and I thought the special effects were brilliant. LOL! I love the 'J/C Romance Rail' comments :D All the J/C goodness and despair in these episodes is just so bitter sweet.

Paul Farrell

Question I’ve always had. When filming a big 2 parter that is split between seasons, was part 1 filmed then a break then part 2 in the new block, both parts filmed at the end of the year or both parts filmed at the start of the year? 🤔

Ms Nike Morgan

I saw your tear, Garrett!! Absolutely!

ST Fan CB

The Vorlon on Babylon 5 also use bio ships. I thought the bio ship looks cool and still convincing after all this time. The reason why the bio-ship did not destroy Voyager is that they were used to fighting the Borg with different defenses and shield frequencies and Voyager had shields set to fight the Borg with rotating shield frequencies which is probably what saved them. The scene in the briefing room where the group is discussing the idea of using the Borg as a temp ally is very strange to me. Janeway is out of character as it seems she is trying desperately to convince her officers to go along with the plan. Janeway never does that, she makes a decision tells them what they are doing. Why did Voyager have to be in sight of a Borg cube to propose their plan? Why could they not just hail them from the edge of sub-space commo range and make the deal that way? Done only for the dramatic effect and ridiculous. How did the Borg beam Janeway through Voyager's shields? In the past the Borg have drained the shields of ships and then transported over. This is a hole in the plot. The graphic for the "mine" proposed by 7 of 9 shows the ship used by Lore's Borg in TNG.

The Real Andrew Kim

I've been waiting since I started listening to you guys to hear Garrett respond to Janeway's reaction to her impersonations. First time I heard your impression I thought of this scene and wondered if they wrote it cause of your impressions? XD

The Real Andrew Kim

I will also say, I learned the Scorpion and Fox story from this episode when I was a kid. I was 10 or 11 at the time and I remember the story having such impact because of Chakotay's story telling.
