In terms of Tom "out-ranking" B'Elanna, I'm assuming this is because he has a regular field-commission of Lieutenant (Junior Grade), whereas B'Elanna was Maquis, so she has a Provisional rank of Lieutenant (also Junior Grade) - hence wearing a rank bar instead of pips (like Chakotay). Despite Tom and B'Elanna both being "Jr. Grade", they're still verbally referred to as "lieutenants", probably because it's simpler.

Dwight from The Office would love a good Beet Pie, lol 😆

RemiTheNerd

Lmao Robbie confusing this episode with "Prophecy" lol

SnazzyO

Such a great episode for B’Elanna and Tom. There was enough breathing room to hit so many little character notes. And her smile, as the ship is reflected on her helmet, is perfect. These two characters have so much growth before they got together, but then it really escalated for each as they commit to one another.

Hefefloeckchen

It's funny how you say "hesus" instead of "jesus" while getting anoyed about klingon

Sunehri_Hotaru

It could be when they’re calling out sick that they’re having a mental health day. Cause that’s the one thing a hypo spray can’t fix

ST Fan CB

Coming way back in time to comment. As I was told when I was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Army, figuring out rank amongst Lieutenants is like calculating virtue amongst prostitutes. Or words more vulgar not suited for here. Even so, Torres is a department head, and would be higher on the command structure. Conversely, if the crapp-o-la hit the fan on the bridge, Tom could temporarily take command if all others were down for the count in an emergency. He would then give up command when someone senior arrived on the bridge to relieve him.

Dustin Snyder

w/r/t B'Elanna not being awkward towards Vorik, hasn't it been like months since that event? And with how B'Elanna is, I imagine after a day or two of him being back in Engineering she just went up to him and said something like "Look, we need to work together. No being weird." and he raised his eyebrows and that was that?

Peggy

Great new studio sound with Robbie! Curious what the remote lighting system includes.

Chantelle Bowles

In reference to Tom outranking B’Elanna, isn’t it addressed in the next sentence? B’Elanna says they’re the same rank but Tom says he is a bridge officer. (I rewatched this episode a while ago so I’m now questioning myself…)

sab ewell

It's mentioned in Displaced when he orders her on her feet to keep her moving. She says they are the same rank, his reply: I'm a bridge officer and I have seniority lol which isn't by much but still. This is why she gets him back when he's demoted lol I feel like she pulled rank a few times

Andrew Murray

In the end the Day of Honour is the "minor" plot and mostly it's about Seven being demanded for Ransom, and tom and Be'lanna going to retrieve their stolen warp core.

Andrew Murray

Maybe the shooting schedule was different, and it just aired early in S4.

Christinaof9

I will give Garrett some leeway here, I've seen seasons 4-7 probably 10 times and I also thought that this TB space scene was later on down the road a bit lol

Christinaof9

I think the Tom/Seven scene was meant as the seeds for her later scene with Janeway, that the crew displayed unexpected acts of kindness. I don't think Tom came across flirty at all, but just kind, relating to her as someone who had been labeled and somewhat an outcast in the beginning. It was an act of compassion that later tracked with her act of compassion.

Andrew Murray

Just feedback in general Hollywood makes TV and the Movies look so easy...but when you start seeing or hearing behind-the-scenes stuff about the production process you realise how much work goes into it.

Andrew Murray

Does the Tom-Be'lanna relationship turn into a Tasha-Data "it never happened" moment. Obviously things progress later, but I don't remember either about where things proceeded after "Day of Honor".

Andrew Murray

Maybe Tom's response to Be'lanna could have been "Ditto" (Demi Moore, "Ghost" I think that was her line from that movie) or "I know" (Harrison Ford/Han Solo, Empire Strikes Back) Something similar.

K

Totally agree. I think it’s Tom reaching out as someone who’s been in a similar situation, and I think the display of kindness and vulnerability displays Tom’s character growth. I think Seven’s eyebrow raise was one of curiosity— she wasn’t accustomed to gentle interactions and offers of help. I didn’t read that scene as flirtatious.

Robbie -- That new podcast studio is straight fire! Your wife did an amazing job; the audio quality is so clean, and the lighting is so bright and smooth. It's so professional! It's like I'm listening to Star Trek NPR.

Taisho Rose

I think they slowed the film speed down slightly to add to the zero G effect. That's why all the dialogue between B'elanna and Tom sounds really sluggish. It's harder to tell with Roxann because her voice is higher pitched but with Robbie, sometimes I found it a little distracting because it almost made him sound like he was slurring his words. I guess since they're running out of oxygen it's fine. If they weren't, I might wonder what Tom was drinking before he went on the mission lol

Rhonda Dirr

I plug both of you. Love this!!

Jason Self

In the holodeck scene where B'Elanna wants to leave and the holographic Klingons try to stop her with pain sticks I don't get why she didn't just say "Computer: End program" and avoid getting hit with the pain sticks at all.

GAY Kleven-Lundstrom

In my rewatch of Tom and Seven IMHO Tom's motives were genuine because he felt and was treated like an outsider in the pilot episode "Caretaker"

Tara

Appropriate to get to this episode this week, because Yom Kippur is next week. .

sab ewell

Agreed. It was him being a friend because he's been there before. Also gotta love Robbie being insulted by the very idea of Tom being with anyone other than B'Elanna 😂

Kris Hansen

What should Tom say back? "I know." Hat tip to Star Wars.

Karen Chuplis

If you didn’t notice, go back and check out the last scene. It’s very cool how the reflection of Voyager is seen in B’elanna’s helmet.

Lisa Minnesma

I love watching them try to remember an episode that I know by memory lol! The laughing emoji's were definitely me!

Lisa Minnesma

And with knowing the whole series, Tom's response was the writers way of giving the viewers a cliffhanger/"better tune in to see how he really response" moment. We learn how he really feels two episodes later!

Angela

I don't recall B'Elanna being a "full" lieutenant. Was that ever specified in an episode? Also, I too, looked on Tom's offer of friendship to Seven as being because he, too, was initially treated like an outcast/pariah among the crew, although I must say, I have always liked the idea of a P/7 relationship, and if TPTB had ever broken P/T up as a couple, I would rather have seen that one at the end rather than C/7.

Angela

So it was doubly annoying when TPTB scheduled Nemesis before airing Revulsion.

Justin Rhoads

Another great episode... Yeah I had a similar reaction... I couldn't help but wonder how wildly inappropriate it seems, without context, to just walk into somebody else's quarters and just start messing with their laundry ? lol

Rebecca Anderson

I lost it when the laughing emojis came on the screen during the what we remember sequence.

Marlene Bielawski

I'm so bummed about Voyager being removed from Netflix September 30th. How am I going to be able to keep watching the episode of the week? I don't have a TV and rely on streaming apps for all my viewing. Any suggestions? ETA I forgot to mention that I am in Canada so you have to be linked to a cable or satellite account to be able to view Paramount+ app. It asks for your TV provider. I hope I'm wrong about that. Let me know fellow Canucks!

Moonglade

I just have to say how much I appreciate Robbie and Garrett, Megan and Rebecca and all the team for doing these podcasts and videos. I've had a tough week at work this week - too much work, not enough staff - and just logging on to see the next video, seeing Robbie's and Garrett's faces and hearing their voices cheers me right up. You guys and your special guests are a real tonic! xx

Christopher Collins

This is the first time in Star Trek we had ever seen the Warp core ejected in the show. The only other time was not real in a dream like sequence where the warp core is said to have been ejected and is missing in the background in the 5th season episode Violations or had been talked about in a few episodes of the Next Generation like Timescape but this is the first episode where we actually see it missing and out of the ship. The next time we see it done is in the Film Star Trek Insurrection that came out in 1998 and Voyager Ejects The Warpcore one more time in the penultimate episode just before the finale Endgame titled Renaissance Man.

Taisho Rose

Apparently they were inconsistent with rank on the show. B'Elanna and Tom were both field commissioned Lieutenant JG but she should have been promoted to full Lieutenant once she was chosen to be Chief Engineer. It would just be impossible for her to be the same rank as the people working under her in Engineering. At first, Tuvok wore Lieutenant Commander pips, but he was a regular Lieutenant. He gets officially promoted to Lt. Commander after the next episode.

Stephanie Baker

Roxann Dawson was 🔥 this episode. And isn’t this the beginning of her real-life pregnancy.

Eric Bennett

I don't remember Tom Paris being Lt. JG. Is Lt. JG an actual rank in Starfleet? I don't think it is. I think it just goes ensign, Lt., Lt. Cmdr, Cmdr, Captain, Commodore, Admiral. Torres has a field commission of Lt (hence the different type of rank on her collar). Last note, Tom is a bridge officer and his position as bridge officer would hold higher position (though some rank) over someone who was also a Lt. and not a bridge officer.

Daniel Guidry

Lieutenant Junior Grade. It's one full and one half pips, sitting between Ensign with one full pip and a full Lieutenant with 2 full pips.

Sarah Packard

Just an FYI, this video didn't show in the main feed. I had to find the link to it through Discord.

Grace F

Regarding Rhamin's halted speech pattern when he is talking via the view screen, did anyone else think his mouth movements looked like they were CGI? The jaw movements looked too unnatural to be a human in makeup. I wonder if they used CGI to emphasize the look of the aliens in this first scene and the actor had to loop in the audio to match the CGI mouth movements.

ST Fan CB

I dont know what you are talking about, but the Military DOES have sick call. At least they did up to 2010 when I got out.

ST Fan CB

Perhaps the reason that Torres and Vorik are so cool with each other is that they are adults and both understand that the situation was beyond each others control. It has also probably been many days and perhaps weeks or months since the incident and they had a conversation about it and have come to an understanding. Some things on the show are implied and dont have to be shown. It also makes no sense to continue to beat a dead horse about it over and over. The normal command structure should be a Captain, a full Commander as XO/Number 1/First Officer. Then each department head should be a LT Cdr. Engineering, Ops, Medical, Science, etc. I am sure that each dept head would then have an XO in the grade of full LT. So I would think that since the main engineer officer died and Torres was Maquis, then full LT was as high as Janeway was willing to go as far as rank. It would have made more sense to make her a LT Cdr but whatever.

Seinfeld got there first! George: Sienna, I love you. Sienna: I’m hungry, let’s get something to eat.
