The Delta Flyers is a weekly Star Trek: Voyager rewatch & recap podcast hosted by Garrett Wang & Robert Duncan McNeill. Each week Garrett and Robert will rewatch an episode of Voyager starting at the very beginning. This week’s episode is Year of Hell, Part 2. Garrett and Robbie recap and discuss the episode, and share their insight as series regulars. This week they are joined by writer Brannon Braga for a short interview.

Year of Hell, Part 2:
With Voyager almost destroyed, Captain Janeway risks everything to rescue Paris and Chakotay, and stop Annorax from continuing to tamper with the timeline.

So the last scene with Annorax is happening "now" because the entire 200 years they were on the time ship, they were living outside of normal time. None of Annorax's crew was aging because they were essentially shielded from the passage of time. They went around messing with the timeline for what would be the equivalent of 200 years of normal time. So when it resets, he is living "now" with his wife. That's how I understood it anyway. It's kind of like Relativity in a later season.

Also, it made sense to me that Kes wasn't in this episode. That was only one possible future, and once she decided to leave Voyager, that future wouldn't happen any more. If she had stayed on Voyager, things might have happened the way they did in "Before and After" or been different, depending on how people's choices changed. But once she left, that meant the future would be different.

I felt that Babylon 5 snub in the Braga interview (...that was probably unintentional but as a B5 fan I'm contractually obligated to point it out) EDIT: This was a joke that was genuinely meant in good fun. It is not actually sour grapes.

Justin

Wow, I never realized you guys record these 2 weeks in advance.

Peter Lucas

Never understood the rivalry between Trek and B5 fans. Both are amazing, you can be a fan of both. Braga and JMS are both genuises and some of the best sci-fi writers of all time (along with Rick Berman, Michael Piller, Jeri Taylor and of course Ira Steven Behr). All people who have made the world a better place.

Mike Joyce

I think KES needs to be on the team as The Returner😉

Marian Bieniek

Micro-meteors are real and a daily danger to the International Space Station. Also the theory that the present the past and the future all exist at the same time is not just philosophical, it is a real theory in quantum physics

Stephen Taber

Obviously this is a one-sided perspective, but J Michael Straczynski asserts in his book that he doesn’t believe the show creators knew about his Babylon 5 pitch, but he does believe executives at Paramount may have suggested a space station show for Trek based on his treatment. Like much of Trek lore we may never know the whole story.

Stephen Taber

Hanna Barbara and Looney Tunes produced nearly identical shorts about a mouse living in a piano during a performance of Rhapsody and Blue, and inexplicably it appears to be a coincidence, so DS9 and B5 might be the same.

It’s so cool that they were finally able to execute the season long version of this type of story on Enterprise. We get to have both versions.

Part 2 is a 10 for me. I'm still listening to the podcast so I will leave some more comments soon.

Chris Denny

To me, the whole year is Janeway’s fault because she told the guy the F off because she didn’t want to go around their space and decided she was going to go through regardless of what everyone else thought.

Louise Sayer

Loved the little bit at the end an unexpected but brilliantly entertaining two mins

Emily Reich

just recently found out about this podcast and listened to all the episodes, am absolutely loving it, Voyager is one of my fave shows ever, ty for this glorious addition to my weekly entertainment roster! 😀

Rick Berman telling RDM that The Voyager was the real star of the show was a belittling comment that was unnecessary. It amounted to Berman saying “Don’t expect too much money or fame from this because you aren’t the real Star anyway” total D-Bag move
