The Delta Flyers is a weekly Star Trek: Voyager rewatch & recap podcast hosted by Garrett Wang & Robert Duncan McNeill. Each week Garrett and Robert will rewatch an episode of Voyager starting at the very beginning. This week’s episode is In the Flesh. Garrett and Robbie recap and discuss the episode, and share their insight as series regulars.

In the Flesh:
An alien species simulates Starfleet's San Francisco headquarters, training their own to pose as humans to invade Earth.

Robin Murphy

I remember Ray Walston from My Favorite Martian. One of my favorite shows as a kid.

Robin Murphy

Also... I wondered if she was supposed to be a descendant of Enterprises Captain Archer. 😁

Elias Nordling

I LOVE that Chacotay gets to do a Classic Kirk: He teaches an alien about Luuv!

Torry Haag

A replimat was used in DS9 a lot actually. It was basically a place to publicly eat, but they just get stuff from the replicator and sit and eat and socialize.

Elias Nordling

Also, Pon Farr night is so wrong because Pon Farr is Super Sekrit. The Doctor has to piece together anecdotal information to figure out things when Vorik has Pon Farr. Finally, Voyager's crew tends to swing around the 130s-140s with no regard fir continuity. The number here is probably the lowest we've heard.

Samantha

Still waiting for Garrett to teach us klingon.

Elisabeth Westner

Love how much Robby and Garrett are J/C shippers now. I was LOLing soooooo much at their picks for losers in this episode.

Elisabeth Westner

Also I think we get to see Boothby again in a later episode, but I suspect that Robbie won't like that one much because IIRC it's very heavily focused on one crew member (and I am totally with Robbie that I prefer eps that involve everyone, not just one or two characters).

Eve England

I’m so happy you’re finally get the chance to visit the “poop factory” for the Away Missions Garrett! I’m looking forward to it and fingers crossed it won’t be too stinky when we visit 🤣

Chris Denny

Pon Farr Night would be more like, lots of ritual fights going on all around the club. Bodies lying around everywhere with dead Vulcan males and females and plomeek soup on the menu.

DogBlud

Yeah, I gotta land on the side of 'this needed to be a two parter,' too. I remember really loving the idea, but it felt so much like a 'okaaaay we gotta get rid of these guys now somehow, right?' script that it was hard to really be invested in it. It was also super frustrating because there was a very good opportunity to add in a little serialization/continuity on par with X-Files (a few continuity episodes per season versus 'everything is serialized') with all the other sims out there. All in all though it's a really ambitious premise that couldn't earn its keep in the span of 40 minutes, which is a real shame, bc the premise is unironically awesome.

Justin

It’s kinda odd that they never ask what to call Species 8472. Seems like they would be a good thing to know when trying to broker peace.

TMITrekkie

They mention a replimat in DS9 frequently!

Peter Lucas

This is actually one of my favorite episodes, great guest stars, nods back to previous episodes which is always nice, some humour, a rare spotlight for Chacotay who was a really underused charecter, and an important message that goes back to core Trek values of peace. And very much relevant today - it could almost be talking about Russia and Ukraine! 9/10 from me. I do something think Robbie needs to take his director's hat off and just enjoy the story!

Tino Herrmann

As a German, I can say that your German pronounciations are quite good. :-)

Len

All that A Cuchi Moya makes Chakotay a mellow guy 😄

I agree with RDM. 4.5
