The Delta Flyers is a weekly Star Trek: Voyager rewatch & recap podcast hosted by Garrett Wang & Robert Duncan McNeill. Each week Garrett and Robert will rewatch an episode of Voyager starting at the very beginning. This week’s episode is Gravity. Garrett and Robbie recap and discuss the episode, and share their insight as series regulars. This week Tim Russ joined for a short interview about his memories surrounding the making of Gravity.

Gravity:
Tuvok's Vulcan training is tested when the shuttle he, Paris and the Doctor are travelling in disappears.

Ah man totally jealous of Rob's massage chair that thing looks super cool

I’ve always loved this episode. Yet I feel my appreciation for Tuvok’s perspective on ‘love’ versus his ‘appreciation’ of people is just outside my grasp. I suspect the point of the mind meld was to indicate it cannot be put into words. Ah Tom! I hope B’Elanna eventually satisfies your inner mushiness need. Because you wear it on your sleeve. Getting you two in sync took another year and a half.

Dee McGee

Tuvok in a tank top. 'Nuff said.

Luise

Ooh, love this episode. Gave me a crush on Tuvok <3

Andrew Murray

I always thought "Gravity" was the one featuring Tuvok and Neelix (Neelix getting on Tuvok's nerves as usual) and was about that space- elevator thing that ascends to a docking platform for ships (it was like a cargo transporter or something), the planet where artificial asteroids were crashing but it was an aliens means of taking over the planet (to populate it or something).

Andrew Murray

Is this kind of the same ideas as "Blink of an Eye" ? (time moving faster on the planet than in space)?

Andrew Murray

"time is relative" (well to the observer anyway) Time flies when you're having fun...... or drags-by when you're not is what I would say.

Andrew Murray

if Lt Cmdr Tuvok has uniform in two pieces and you mere Ensigns don't then maybe that was the way it was...... (I'm sure at this point, Tom is still an Ensign...?) Remember, in "macrosm" Janeway basically strips down to her undershirt, it was a two-piece uniform for her. Even as far back as TNG, Picard's always pulling down his tunic when he stands up and that' where "the Picard Maneuver" came from.

Andrew Murray

If Neelix has " the spider recipe" how's he suppose to get the primary ingredient.....they can't go back to that planet. I assume the spiders are not indigenous to that planet.

Andrew Murray

Isn't CBS/Paramount planning a "Star Fleet Academy" series - that would probably feature "teenage" cadets, including Vulcans.

Sarah Dunnevant

The conversation on time reminded me of the short story by Ted Chiang called “Story of Your Life”, which was made into the film “Arrival”. Lots of discussion about time being cyclical/simultaneous rather than linear.

Patrick Carlin

The multispatial probe has been featured before actually, that's what they were trying to recover from the gas giant in "Extreme Risk".

Craig Main

Time is the fire in which we burn. Or it can be a companion who goes with us on the journey reminding us to cherish every moment as they may never come again

David Turner

Just had to say that as a resident of the original Haverhill in the U.K. it is pronounced Hayverhill, though since the sixties there was a huge influx from London and now they tend to say ayvrill 😂

Leilani Craig

I’m so glad Garrett answered the uniform structure question, it’s been bugging me forever. 😂 It’s so weird they made you wear one-piece suits regularly but then had people putting on/taking off jackets so often like it was a 2-piece.

Laura Robles

I’m watching all these episodes for the first time. I yelled out “tank girl” she I saw Lori Peggy’s name. I was curious where this was filmed so I’m glad you talked about that. My takeaways were, I felt bad that B’Ellanna didn’t miss Tom, and that Tom was all agonized without her. Has he told her he loved her yet? I remember when they were floating in space he didn’t say it back.

Cathy Darvin-Redders

I could be wrong but isn’t this the only time we here Tom talk about his ‘love’ for B’elanna? I don’t think we ever him actually say it to her in any of the episodes.

Laura Robles

oops one more thing and the space time difference reminded me of Interstellar. But it was 7 years for every minute. So I’m glad it wasn’t that bad.

The Real Andrew Kim

Tim Russ should watch The Expanse or the new Halo series, they do a real good job with the languages

Maria Mandry

So nice to see Tim Russ and share memories from VOY.

Mary Burch

T-shirt for Tom vs. Tuvok in a tank top: Tom forgot to replicate sunscreen before they left and is worried about getting sunburned. Tuvok, having grown up on Vulcan with much stronger UV rays, has no such concerns.

B obrien

If you look up book Star Trek lists by chip carter there are 47 examples of when 47 was used in various trek shows. This all started with joe menosky

Janet Potts

As for the weirdest thing to eat, I would put crickets on my list. They actually make a high protein flour out of crickets. I used to get Exo Bars that were made from it. They came in several flavors, but I only tried the chocolate ones.

Sybil Wild

He tells her he loves her all the time, though? Like in Lineage and Drive. He's all the time telling her about his love.

Jenny

He has not (and will not). His "yeah" to Noss in another layer of space, not in B'Elanna's presence, is the closest he ever comes. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Jenny

I'm pretty sure a (normal, Starfleet factory issue) probe stuck in the wormhole back in season one's Eye of the Needle also served as a communications and transporter relay through to the Romulan on the other side, so while I'm less textbook-knowledgable about TNG and DS9's precedents there, it was already established as a thing probes can do on Voyager. :-) (The multi-spatial probe that can withstand all kinds of stuff was new to season five, it's the probe the Delta Flyer was constructed to rescue from a gas giant (?) back in Extreme Risk.)

Jenny

Yeah, I got really upset when google news suggested cockroach flour to me a few years back. Like, I've been using gmail since 2004 and google still doesn't know me at all! I yelped and nearly dropped my phone at the headline that was even a thing. 🤢

Rachelle H

If you watch voyager from paramount using Amazon Prime they have bits of Xray info using the IMDB trivia. About the time philosophy. As a Christian I know that God is Over time. Time only exists in the realms of this universe but God is above time and all time and created time.

ST Fan CB

Word. It got kind of old listening to the multi-spatial probe can do anything banter.

ST Fan CB

I am surprised that RDM's research into the background of guest stars did not reveal the extensive Star Trek history that Joseph Ruskin enjoys. RDM usually comments on any other connection with Star Trek but here he did not. He played "Galt" in TOS episode "The Gamesters of Triskelion" He was in 3 episodes of DS9, this episode of Voyager in the movie Star Trek: Insurrection and was on an episode of Star Trek: Enterprise. He also lent his voice talents to 2 different Star Trek Video games: Hidden Evil and Away Team.

For the record "Millennials" are in our 30s and totally had phone booths growing up 😆 it's the generation after us that might not be familiar with them 😜
