Dee McGee

Very poor writing, but didn't like RDM giving it a 7? Should it have been lower?

Dee McGee

I totally related to how Seven felt about the consequences of her parents irresponsible behavior.

s.oneill2020

The episodes aired seperated in Germany, were seperated on VHS, but merged on DVD. So I think it was made for the DVD thing, maybe and got to the VoD Streaming Services like that.

Dean Makin

Glad your tour got let into the Paramount lot eventually, Garrett. The security guy sounded like a bit of a jobsworth.

James Morrow

Rebecca, thank you for your wonderful editing. I am curious if, since this was a double episode, if it was more challenging to edit this to around two hours than a regular single episode? Did you have to cut more material than usual or about the same?

Tashicat

ill never understand why we dont just beam torpedoes over EVERY time

Tashicat

cant lie, i was SO relived to find out yall reviewed both eps as one cause when i popped my DVD in, it was all one ep n i wasnt sure how on earth i was gonna figure out where to stop n wait for next weeks

Christopher Collins

I have never heard of a mesmerizer lens before this video. I like the opening of this episode with that lens.

Christopher Collins

I remember Dark Frontier being aired together as a special two hour event. But seeing it in reruns on UPN or TV channels it was separated into two parts.

Christopher Collins

I like Garrett’s stories on the Paramount lot. Shows how strict the lot could be. I could not see Spielberg sneaking on the lot like he did Universal like he did back before making Jaws.

Christopher Collins

The fidget with the badge bugged me too when it first aired because of the same reasons you two mentioned. Plus it was never ever set up or used later on in the series. It was only used for the scene.

David Turner

I thought this too with the fidgeting with the com badge at the time! She never did it before or after! This is nevertheless an action packed episode for its day and comes off well. I remember when I got the season five box set on dvd dark frontier had extra scenes not on the vhs version! Ps Robbie, seven of nine does have a fight scene of sorts with someone who has been taken over by the Borg queen in Picard season two!

Tashicat

Re: Gambling... funny how its all over the ship in various forms throughout the 7yr journey, but only Paris ever got in trouble for it

Tashicat

As far as the ladies you mentioned, the other one is Diane Fossy

Tashicat

I also always find myself wondering if the species that Seven helps to escape, is Icheb's people n this is why they were so ruthless in fighting back. I mean theyre never referred to by name, only by borg designation

Laura Johnson

I DVR’d this episode on H&I (Heroes and Icons network) and have been saving the episodes to watch along with the Flyers re-caps. H&I has “Dark Frontier” as two episodes. The part one episode ends as the Borg Queen tells Seven, “Welcome home.” The second part begins with some “last time on Star Trek: Voyager” recap scenes and then begins with the Borg Queen line “You’ve changed”. After their scene are the credits and theme music then it goes to the Cargo Bay scene (post commercials). There is no scene in Engineering with fitting the warp coils. I’ll have to dig out my DVDs or find this episode streaming to check it out!

Stephanie

I have to agree with Robbie and probably even go a little lower and give it a 5 but I will admit I am not big Borg fan. I actually find there episodes kinda boring.

Heather Irwin

Not sure if this was on purpose, but I thought it was very funny that the fake Voyager episode synopsis still included a "some sort of..."

Andrew Murray

both paramount+ and Netflix have Dark Frontier as one "movie length" ep, listed as S5E15 with S5E16 "The Disease" following. But I think they originally aired as P1 and P2 and not a combined ep. I might be wrong, because usually two-parters (in any Trek) are more often a season ender/season premiere ep.

Andrew Murray

getting a little off topic here but at least Speilberg should have been well known on Universal lot since he did Sugarland Express for Universal the previous year (1974) and "Duel" (1971) for Universal. so not a complete stranger to Universal in other words!

Andrew Murray

pity Voyager hasn't been remastered in wide-screen to suit Robbie's TV.....I like what they've done with "The Motion Picture" remaster. Hopefully other TOS films will follow.

Andrew Murray

I think it's rather nice that the first person Naomi goes to if she's having borg nightmares, is Seven, rather than her mother, or even Neelix. Kind of ironic, although by this time, the two have a firm bond and friendship.

Sherri Stevens

Why do they do looping? Is it because they can’t get good audio while you’re walking because the microphones have to be further away?

Chelsea Bilek

I could be wrong but don't we find out that Seven has a grandmother on earth?

Irene Artho

Last episode (Bliss) mentioned an aunt, but that could have all been fabricated. I believe there was a reference to a relative in one episode though.

Irene Artho

With regards to the borg showering - I would say the nanoprobes take on that duty somehow. They repair the body or machine parts of a drone (most of the time, apart from this episode for some reason) and in TNG the ship even got repaired by the nanoprobes. I would say they would do the cleaning as well :)

Charlotte Telford

Seven has an Aunt and it's referenced and shown in a later episode when they can talk to their relatives in Astrometrics. Maybe Author, Author? When the Doctor get's his holonovel published, tries to pull it and the publishers say he has no rights because he's a hologram.

Rob Salvaggio

So the queen can be remade from other drones, the queen is more the embodiment of a program rather than an entity. In First Contact that Borg Queen has its flesh completely dissolved and then Picard snaps its spine.

Estelle Keller

I was bummed that Robbie didn’t share something from his time on AMC though the best stories probably would cause SoapTwitter to react which could be a very good or very bad thing depending on the subject matter. That said I was surprised no mention of Robbie getting a daytime Emmy nom back then or how IMDB only has under a dozen appearances. Enjoyed the podcast dark frontier aired in syndication and on local or cable channels for years in two parts though sections were restored when put together as a movie on streaming.

John Serafino

I honestly wish that Garrett would take the recaps and conversations just a little more seriously. I don't know if he's trying for "banter" or what's going on, but the endless guffawing while Robbie talks about the episodes just gets distracting.

Kris Hansen

I envision a blackboard where the crew count just goes down and down and down...

Stephanie Baker

i like this episode even tho it’s got some unbelievable parts

Denise Gilbertson

"Mezmerizer" sounds like something from Captain Proton lol. I shall endeavor to use "not the sharpest bulb in the box" because that is awesome and totally hits all the bases. In regard to the Borg Queen and whether she "allowed" Seven to be taken - I think not; I think she is trying not to look weak or that she was not in control - simply trying to use something to her advantage.

Vikki Williams

Not ST related and, yes, I’m a little behind but Jane Goodall (from the UK) studied Chimps in the wild. Dian Fossey (from USA) studied Gorillas (‘Gorillas in the Mist’ is based on her work). I’m a bit of a primate conservation nerd.

Paul Johnston

Ok just watched this episode on UK Netflix and as I watched the recap the scene when Tom and Harry have beers in the mess Hall is missing on Netflix! But it's on Paramount plus

Amy O'Hala

The ibdb page says it aired as a long episode,515, on June 11, 2000. 1 hour 32 minutes. The Disease is episode 516, different plot. :)

ST Fan CB

A lot of praise was heaped upon this episode yet only a 7 point something rating. Again, not every regular cast member is going to be in every show. Come on man. How many transwarp coils does each ship have? The voyager crew steals one from the sphere yet it is still able to go to transwarp. During the raid on the sphere, why do all the away team members need to be in the same place for transport back to Voyager? Once the charges placed by Tuvok and Kim take out the main shield generator, the transwarp coil and all away team members can be beamed out at the same time. Bunch of hogwash that they have to run around like Starfleet chickens with their heads cut off. When the Borg Queen says that leaving Seven with Voyager was the plan, she is full of crap. Notice how she turns away before saying it. Its the Borg equivalent of "I meant to do that!" Borg Queen states that Seven is the only Borg Drone ever to be returned to an individual. Another load of crap. Both Hugh and Locutus were returned back to individuals. Earlier, in another Voyager episode, there was a whole cube of drones that regained their individuality. Later, in another episode, we learn that the survivors of Seven's crashed Borg ship were also returned to an individual state. Horrible continuity.
