The Delta Flyers is a weekly Star Trek: Voyager rewatch & recap podcast hosted by Garrett Wang & Robert Duncan McNeill. Each week Garrett and Robert will rewatch an episode of Voyager starting at the very beginning. This week’s episode is Bliss. Garrett and Robbie recap and discuss the episode, and share their insight as series regulars.

Bliss:
After five years, the Voyager crew finally finds a wormhole that will bring it back to the Alpha Quadrant; Seven suspects there is something wrong with how quickly and easily the crew accepts the appearance of the phenomenon.

Bill Prady is hilarious. Cinnamon buns are delicious. That’s all I have to say.

Jen V

He only pitched it, he didn't write it because he was busy writing D&G.

Loretta Lane

I also love cinnamon buns. Mood.

Mr Prada was such a delight! I bet he remembers ALL the episodes. Scarlett Pomeranian was such a delight. And Seven carrying her was awesome. Melt that ex-Borg heart! Just hearing Morgan Shepard’s voice made me happy. And I can hear Mark’s voice when I listen. They do ‘grumpy cat’ so well.

This is a Voyager episode which I like to re-watch now and then. Since seeing both Sheppards play in an episode of Doctor Who around 10 years ago, I've become a bit of a fan of them both. And Mark Sheppard will make an appearance in Voyager I believe in season 7.

I like the idea of investigating a different aspect of the Star Trek universe other than a naval ship. I've always thought an interesting series idea is Star Trek: Federation News Service, where each week a journalism team checks in on a setting we've seen before in an episode...check in on Cardassia's recovery after the Dominion War, checking on e the Teplan system some years after Julian Bashir developed a vaccine, and later a cure, for the blight. Check in with Grand Nagus Rom on Ferenginar. Check in with Neelix on the Delta/Beta Quadrant border, have some tech make it possible to check in with Denara Pel and the VIdiians after the Phage has been cured. Revisit societies that Star Trek episodes have visited before, or just check in with where characters are now. Set it circa 2400, so that actors from the TNG/DS9/VOY era could reprise their roles, having aged accordingly, in single or two-part episodes. Bring humor. along for the ride...let Mr. Prady have something to do with it. But also leave plenty of room for drama as well.

Voyager crew obviously haven't learned their lesson....about "if it's too good to be true..." because S4 E26 "Hope and Fear" had another situation which gave them Hope for a way home.....a "new" Starfleet vessel equipped with Quantum Slipstream drive but they fall into another trap and end up back in Borg space (effectively putting them back 10 years after Kes had sent them clear of Borg Space.....)

James Morrow

I laughed so much during this episode-thank you Gn’R! Also, thank you Megan for another wonderful job of crafting a fantastic episode. My smile grew from ear to ear when Mr. Prady expressed his excitement and humble appreciation at seeing his name in Trek Wikipedia and being a part of Trek history. I know exactly how he feels-although my contribution was much, much smaller. To be appreciated by people you have never met or even spoken to for your writing is amazing and touches your heart.

Andrew Murray

They did more Fairhaven than Proton eps....?

Andrew Murray

I think if Tom and Harry got home, they'd pitch the Delta Flyer design to Star Fleet, and start mass production to make the Flyer the standard shuttlecraft for all of Starfleet's ships. That could point back to Non Sequitur where Harry in that parallel time/world is effectively a ship designer/engineer and not actually on voyager (although he knows he should be).

Andrew Murray

They could have put in scene about Samantha, who has succumbed to the fantasy of Earth with the rest of the crew, and Naomi, upset about this, goes to Seven for help, so that would connect the dots with why Seven finds Naomi in the cargo bay. (Naomi tells Seven everyone's acting strange, but that could have been changed to a reference about her mother specifically).

Armando Wessels

Let's do a Top Gun style Flyby past Adm. Paris' office

Shobha Kulkarni

In the astrometrics scene (see video reaction of Garrett), see how Chakotay's hand crosses over Seven's. looks awkward and contrived.

Scarlett is amazing in this episode. Typical kid behavior. Loved the interview with Bill. He brought back so many memories for me, such as my first ever convention. Computer, comic book, D&D, Star Trek and Star Wars all-in-one in ‘89.

GAY Kleven-Lundstrom

I watched "Bliss" so many times over the years and read the credits. How Bill Prady name did not ever connect the dots with me even though "TBBT" was/is my favorite sitcom; no wonder there was so many Star Trek references in that show. Thank you for giving us that interview.

Craig Drebit

omg, Rozencrantz and Guilderstern Art Dead is one of my favourite plays and it really it the original Lower Decks!!!!

Luise

Bill Prady seems like a delightful guy. I loved Darma&Greg, btw. It was so quirky and funny and cute.

Christopher Collins

That was impressive hearing Bill Brady’s story. I am familiar with him from Interviews for Big Bang Theory. But I was completely unaware he pitched and wrote this episode of Voyager. This story I was completely unaware of.

Alison O'Konski

This episode, along with threshold and think tank are on my top 5 list of episodes.

Orsolya Toth

I'm surprised of the low rating from the fans. This is, in my opinion, one of best from Voyager, definitely above 8.

ST Fan CB

Why is the audio on RDM rewatch so low and horrible? Another missed ST connection, this time with Morgan Sheppard. In addition to the role in the very horrible Star Trek "reboot". M. Sheppard played the Klingon Prison Warden of Rura Penthe in Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country, the 6th and final TOS movie. He also was in an episode of ST:TNG. Why was Neelix affected? He knows nothing about Earth and has no specific desire to go there so he should have been in with Seven, the Doctor and Naomi. Did no one notice that Torres' hair is now blond? When did that happen? I do not rate this episode very high because the whole premise just seems to convenient, contrived and unbelievable.
