The Delta Flyers is a weekly Star Trek: Voyager rewatch & recap podcast hosted by Garrett Wang & Robert Duncan McNeill. Each week Garrett and Robert will rewatch an episode of Voyager starting at the very beginning. This week’s episode is Course Oblivion. Garrett and Robbie recap and discuss the episode, and share their insight as series regulars.

Course Oblivion:
Tom Paris and B'Elanna Torres get married, but their honeymoon is interrupted by a phenomenon that breaks down the molecular infrastructure of Voyager and the crew.

Had a random thought abbot this episode. Imagine they had picked up a passenger. Now imagine being that passenger. Horrifying 😭

Luke Ciancio

Ah, the episode of Polyamorous Seven of Nine!

Glam City Rocker

What I always wonder about is up until this point which episodes of Voyager were the real Voyager and which ones were the fake Voyager between when they were on the demon class planet and this episode that's not really made clear if maybe some of the adventures we watched were of the copies because obviously they would have been playing real Voyager in the Delta quadrant to so....

Glam City Rocker

This is definitely not in my list of favorite episodes for sure because of this reason because I need it to be clarified Canonically which episodes were fake Voyager in which was real and because certainly they have their own set maybe this should be a spin-off like The Adventures of the fake Voyager

Glam City Rocker

And after they discover this discrepancy couldn't they have used the environmental systems to flood the ship with the compound gas is needed to survive on the demon class Planet because if I recall correctly when they first brought fake Tom and Harry on board the real Voyager they put them in a chamber in sickbay and filled the chamber with the gases from the planet so they could breathe

Glam City Rocker

What is wouldn't the Time Capsule have also disintegrated if everything that the replicators made for the ship and everything the ship was made out of love with also made out of this goo wouldn't the Time Capsule have disintegrated to the only things to not disintegrate would have been the things neelix found

Glam City Rocker

What what we know in reality of being able to send signals through space why couldn't they have broadcast the signal out into space the signal wouldn't disappear or even if they exploded the real Voyager would have received the signal which would have traveled in perpetuity through space like any radio signals that we get from distant star systems now so as opposed to having to put the probe out they could have just sent out a signal with a message and the real Voyager would have gotten it

Glam City Rocker

And and I brought up another good point where they wouldn't have been able to breathe oxygen on the fake Voyager they would have had to breathe the gases as the prior episode showed they were not exact copies the coffee's could not breathe oxygen they did not have real blood it was all the compound from the planet at which required gases from the planet so that's another continuity thing it's as if they didn't really consult that Original Episode because it doesn't match up

Glam City Rocker

It just it just seems like unless they were going to show which episodes if any were to have been the fake Voyager what was the point of this episode at all but to fill space because they all died at the end so then what is this mean any of their Adventures have any bearing on the real Voyager if not the whole thing was pointless and just not really that entertaining if you're invested in the real characters and the Ark of the entire show

Brandon Kolk

Well, 30 days is obviously real Voyager since Tom is a lieutenant in this episode.

Adele Lara

This has always been a favorite. It surprises me how often they dislike one of my favorites and how often I dislike one of their favorites. I know nothing of filming so I guess I look at episodes through different eyes/perspective.

Oh this one was so depressing! Any hope was sucked out including even their little time capsule was lost…. Even the memories of their sad little lives obliterated. …and a smaller point, the continuity aspect. I remember the episode where these clones were created and they were, at that time, well aware of being clones and even negotiated with real voyager to let it escape. At what point did they forget they were clones?

Brandon Kolk

I feel like it should be mentioned that the whole "rice kills birds" thing is a myth.

Elisabeth Westner

I think GooHarry's last word was probably "KAAAAAAAAAAHN!!!!!!!!"

Luke Ciancio

I should defend this episode a little. I liked it! I thought it was a creative departure from the normal upbeat, positive tone of the show, but also a departure from the show spelling things out more clearly. For me, the more ambiguous nature of the episode added to the bleak feeling of it, and I found that everything in there was explainable with some thought. 9/10, though it is hard to rewatch because it is quite sad.

Voyager Crew two Electric Boogaloo

Elias Nordling

I think the problem wasn't the atmosphere, but that long time exposure to the warp field caused them to disintegrate.
