I'll say, as a guy who cancelled his AP patreon sub when Danny did the weird, coy, "we need to talk about the Left case for arming Ukraine" thing too many times, they've been much better in recent stuff I've heard. A lot of people (RWN for example) had a similar, if less extreme, overreaction to "failing" to predict the SMO. In recent eps I've heard, Danny largely stays quiet during the news briefs and lets Derek interpret the foreign affairs of the week, and does fairly sharp interview episodes with fellow academics instead.

I assume the secondary explosions in Rafah were probably due to the fact that people are living in tents and using gas powered generators for power, not due to an "ammo dump".

The U.S. maintained two major wars thousands of miles away from the homeland over the better part of a decade in Iraq and Afghanistan. I don't think there is any country on earth right now -- aside from perhaps China -- that has the capability to do that. Normally, if there is a viable land route available to provide supplies, they would use the land route, not some stupid pier. I see the use of the pier as less an indictment of the system of logistics, and more a political failure of the Biden administration. e.g. instead of using the multiple available accesses to Gaza by land due to Biden's weakness or incompetence. If the U.S. was able to construct an airport in Gaza, that might make a big difference too. What we are witnessing is a major political failure, not a failure of logistics.

Idk iraq and Afghanistan were not major wars. No draft, no rationing, no change in the American life style... hard to call them major wars. Japan and Germany yes, two front war. Anything since then minor very minor. Sorry, if you served in these minor conflicts. Personally, I think america can dominate any country on the planet, But this is not communicated to russia. Russia could very reasonably assume that america is powerless to respond to a nuclear strike in ukraine. We are not, but what good is that if they use a nuke? It's no good. On “human shields”, I think you guys had a journalist who addressed this trope and one point he made was that Israel only says this to justify civilian deaths, not as an excuse for why they *can’t* target Hamas. Real or imagined, Israel doesn’t view them as shields and will kill civilians indiscriminately. If Hamas really does have an active strategy of using civilians as shields, it’s a shit tactic and can’t really be called a shield. Of course the point of that argument is to pull others down into ridiculous minutia while Israel continues to level Gaza for as long as they can keep everyone arguing dumb shit.

it's also a roundabout way of arguing that any form of Palestinian resistance is illegitimate. Hamas is operating in one of the most densely populated urban areas in the world and Israel doesn't allow people to just leave, so any resistance movement is essentially forced to operate among the civilian population, which in turn obviously puts the civilian population at risk of collateral damage. iirc the US used the same argument to delegitimize Afghan and Iraqi resistance movements during the war on terror.

One of the deterrents we have against russia using a nuclear weapon is the threat that we could decimate them without using a nuclear weapon. That becomes less credible with shenanigans like this. While I love our senior foreign correspondent, I extremely dislike entertaining the Idea Israeli terror strikes hit an "ammo dump." In the middle of refugee tents. Next they will drop a nuke and say they damaged an underground nuclear reactor. Stop entertaining their bullshit.
