We’re joined by Ryan Grim & Jeremy Scahill of the NEW independent journalism venture Drop Site News. We look at how the Biden campaign meltdown has pushed the war in Palestine out of the news, and the relationship between Biden’s long history of bad policies and the current crises he’s leading. Plus, mainstream media’s failed coverage of both topics, and some Drop Site reporting on Democratic megadonors gives a glimpse into Joe Biden’s aggrieved and petty motivations.

Thank you guys for not letting up on the Gaza coverage + discussion

Agent Grange

A bountiful harvest of slop for us insomnia hogs and people that can't fall asleep because it's too hot and we're too poor to afford AC.

Nora

Omg! Ryan💘 and Jeremy💘 So dope!!

Brent in TX

Scahill fucking rocks; Dirty Wars is such a great book

JD Nonce

To listen to this I shall be taking off all of my clothes in the Home for the Senile I am confined to and binge eating Werther’s Originals while refusing to go to bed

Jaime Christley

Babe wake up, new episode of the podcast posted on the internet page

Malaparte_Animal

Flowers for CushKing at the end of the ep I’m 😭❤️

Ty G.

Jeremy Scahill is such a real one, can't wait to check out their new site

Tom Joad

Good to know ryan is striking out on his own with jeremy. I will be looking forward to their work.

Vincent Millay

Great conversation. Just exemplary journalists here. Thank you!

K H

Inshallah in my caliphate we will all have AC and it will smell like cotton candy vape.

K H

Death to nazis inshallah

wow my nightly schedule

Zen Ben

Maybe the Patreon moderators are finally on the job. The last time I checked the comments section a few weeks ago, there was an inordinate number of toxic and hostile comments: Fed, Hater, Bot. Take your pick.

William

Drop ship news?

Blank

Fantastic interview, thanks guys for your continued coverage

Michael S. Judge

The DemoniusX vs. Dan Quinn heuristic always makes me imagine Trump, at a debate, interrupting Biden with "I cummed in my condom and it felt wonderful"

Regular guy

Biden sits down across from George Stephanopoulos for his 15-minute interview. "Thank you for being here, Mr. President" "Alright jack just let me get settled and then you can start" "Oh, sorry, take your time but I'm not the one who's conducting this interview" "Huh?" Stone cold Steve Austin music starts playing, Ryan Grim and Jeremy Scahill walk in the door through a fog machine

Of course

28:14 - "but the fact that nobody's done this [fact checked the NYT's Screams without Words story] except The Intercept and, now presumably, Drop Site News"... I think Will is forgetting a few people... "forgetting"

Radio War Nerd had a whole segment on how dumb gettleman is

Hamas prefers Zoom

Brian

“I wouldn’t accuse Biden of thinking” lmao

T

Using Zoom instead of an Israeli program implies that you don't believe Israel is a tech leader, which is antisemitic according to the ADL.

T

Biden fulfilled his campaign promise to cure cancer. He put stevia and water in a blender and created Pure H2O.

danny

i read jeremy scahill’s blackwater book and it was great just so everyone knows im smart and likable

Creemi

"Biden was thinking... actually I wouldn't accuse Biden of thinking" - Jeremy lmao

This was a great episode and these two guests are always on top of everything. Thanks for the ep. Mr chapo

22:51 what's the difference between scrambling and ignoring?

K H

Appropriate parties are being held accountable.

K H

I'm a hater.

David Browm

One of the biggest pros Trump has going for him as potentially being re-elected is that if he simply continues Biden's policies in Gaza, brain dead libs will actually start demanding a fucking genocide to be stopped

Matelda

Ofc Jeremy is right, but i feel like ranting. I will never understand why so many people ever thought that if your wife died in a car crash you must be a good person. Biden never showed empathy in his fucking life, and the way he treats the drug crimes of Hunter is the prime example: not only does everyone's crackhead son need to be DISAPPEARED FOREVER except for his crackhead son, but HOW DARE YOU suggest that his family is like other families, how dare you comment on his heroic capacity to forgive the debts of his own spawn on behalf of society, how dare you even notice that his son is a worse criminal than many people in prison with long sentences. Say "Joe Biden suffered" as if it means anything, as if millions of people haven't suffered the exact fate and he cares fuck all, as if his apparent graces on the matter are anything more than pure projection, and you get the pay no mind list forever.

MEAT CLOWN

Zero chance of this ever happening regardless of who's president

MEAT CLOWN

It's 11am I'm already awake and don't call me babe 😡

Tucker Millett

Jeremey Scahill is always such a no-nonsense kinda dude that to hear him sound like he's having fun and excited to talk on the "Trap House" was kinda adorable tbh

Simple Socialist

I hope they were like "we apologize that we incorrectly referred to this person as her nephew in the spirit of full transparency we issue this retraction. In that same spirit were waiting for the NYT to retract their entire article"

EaZy E

I've read 3 of his books, so obviously I am 3x's more likeable and smarterer.

Chris

A "football match??" The vile taint of globalism has infected even my beloved Chapo

T

Also important to remember that the car crash was completely Biden's wife's fault, so it was Biden's wife who killed herself and his daughter. God, could Neilia drive a car...

Man, it's crazy how big of a shadow Matt casts over the show's politics and larger message. Hope he's feeling better and loving on his girls

Bman1

That was my thought process for a while, and I still hope it's true, but remember that the outrage over Trump's border policy completely failed to materialize into any meaningful change under a dem administration. On the contrary, hawkish border policy was just internalized into the canon of "liberal" democratic politics. Hoping for dems to adjust, even when you lay out a perfectly rational course for them to do so, just feels like a losing game.

Alex

I’d love Ryan and/or Jeremy to be more frequent guests. Two of our best journalists on the left

Jaime Christley

when Liz and Brace were gaming out possible nomination shenanigans and Liz tagged in HRC I threw up in my mouth

Jaime Christley

hopefully Neilia is beckoning Joe towards the light. smells like burning sulfur? ah don't worry about that, it's uh... theme day.

Ian H

It's so telling that he lied for *decades*, long after being repeatedly corrected, about his family being killed by a drunk driver. Grafting extra cinematic pathos onto Joe's personal tragedy was more important than the life and reputation of a working-class guy who did nothing wrong and suffered immensely due to being lied about by one of the most powerful men in Delaware.

TangiePower

This whole thing reminds me of Matt screaming “It has to be THEM! It HAS TO be THEM!!!” in regards to the old democrat mentality of never stepping down or getting out of the way and their megalomania.

Michael Branes

we've had the same damn general election 3 times in a goddamn row

Sam Schick

Got glassy eyed when they were talking about Matt

Simon Maraya

I gawfawed so loudly that my husband asked what I had heard, and when I told him he said "keep dreamin"

Michael

You going to run up on Will on a public bus and yell at him while recording video over this?

Jonathan G

I love Will’s vocabulary btw. Always feel like i hear a turn of phrase or word I really like every week.

WizLizGiz

Nope, but Will isn’t a US Senator (are you referring to the Coons thing, I don’t know.) Does confrontational journalism make you uncomfortable? Cuz for all I liked in this episode, I’m unswayed by Mr. Grimm’s oft feigned incredulity regarding the behavior of people he frequently and obviously paints in an overly generous. I prefer consistency,

WizLizGiz

Oh and also credit where credit is due is just, you know, good to do.

etienne

I hope they learned some Opssec lessons because notoriously the Intercept very quickly became the Newspaper that if you leak to you Go to Prison Instantly

etienne

real centrism has never been tried

etienne

im a bot

Sai

Grim is usually great, but there's something about his voice that rings insincere to me. Maybe it's just too resonant and radio pretty for my taste 🤔

Michael

Calm down. I was referring to when Blumenthal ran up on Ben Norton in Nicaragua on a public bus (for pretty silly reasons if you ask me). They credited the Electronic Intifada (who are way more credible then the GrayZone).

Yeah but in my defense

Great episode. You should have one of these guys on at least once a month.

jeff

Felt like classic chapo sans Matt (nice to hear all the love for him at the end). The vibe was a real chapo timewarp, had that classic feel and kept waiting for Matt to rant in on a cheap mic.

Hot Rod

Monster ep

Jaime Christley

of course Liz was having a laff but it was such a cursed thing to put into the world. (not that I would ever wish TrueAnon to be any different!)

Zack Burke

"They're dabbing on us. Folks, that's right. They're dabbing on us." Christman, 2020.

Mark Schneider

As Ryan Grim has appeared a couple of times on Chapo, I have reluctantly given more respect to him than I used to. He always seemed to be a ShitLib on the level of his collaborator Krystal Ball (who I admit is very good on Gaza, unlike her racist flunky Saagar) and that ilk. I am speculating that he has been radicalized a bit by the ongoing genocide as he used to seem mostly a TPTB lapdog. Good on Ryan, it's nice to see that people can grow & improve.

dingbat44

Love how they have to do a pseudo eulogy for Matt at the end of every episode

WizLizGiz

Oh oh oh. Gotcha. Everybody’s calm. I listen to both, haven’t noted one to be more or less credible or accurate than the other. Both could’ve been cited, as they also cite and credit each other.

SH

That first rant back in the trap is going to be cathartic

SH

I honestly worry that speaking it may have opened that portal.

Internet Guy

The great march of return was in 2018, not 2021. It was during the Trump Presidency.

END of EVERY episode huh, damn man this is my all time fave podcast and you might be a more complete listener even than I am, hell yeah man good taste on you

Get Stephen hawking’s old chair off facebook marketplace for Matt asap

Jimmy McMillan

I think these two are the biggest Biden haters Chapo has had on. Biden has always had a horrible brain. It just runs slow now

Seth Morton

Does anyone know the reference to where Matt spoke about the ways that liberals shirk responsibility? Was that on a CushVlog or other episode? Thanks if anyone knows the specifics!

Seth Morton

I think that quality is what has allowed him to operate in liberal Washington circles for so long, despite is progressive politics.

AKorgar

Stop you're making me too erect

socialist heretic

Bernie would have had no problem finding people.

J.P. McD.

His book We Got People has great reporting on Obama dropping the ball on the public option, they could have easily rolled Lieberman if they actually cared at all

J.P. McD.

You’re not nearly Chapo pilled enough if you don’t get that HRC subbing in would be the greatest thing ever

Ardy Rezv

His only issue was legit running cover for the squad the last 4 years (especially during force the vote in 2021.) Now we know why. He was maintaining access for his book. The book came out a few years too late though. No one cares about aoc now lol

billbo

The craziest thing about post debate Biden and the dnc is the Dems are acting like it's a primary. That they don't have to deal with trump bringing up bidens inability to speak. The fact that if it's past 8pm bidens team will press the nuke button. They are acting like it's only going to be the Democrats that can tarnish Biden and remind the public that Biden is an old old old man. Not that one of the best trolls in the present day isn't going to just destory Biden. Like today. Challenging Biden to another debate and a round of golf. It's joever.

dingbat44

Shut the fuck up you fucking nerd bitch

THEKILLERWHALE

Really enjoyed this one. Good work gang.

Skwilly

Exquisite

Blair Rancich

I know he at least says it in the 2nd or 3rd ep of his Spanish Civil War series, though I don't *think* that's the actual origin.

Aaron

Pretty strange you never mentioned the Grayzone in the debunking of the mass rape story. Did Ryan Grim tell you not to?

Will Wade

It's crazy how right Blumenthal has been during this entire saga of events since October 7th. I used to think he was a crank, but he has been ahead of the curve the entire time.

Arielle Curtin

Getting that old “Crossfire” vibe. Thanks for your continued attention to this and platforming Ryan and Jeremy!

Natalie

Grim himself said it wasn't true in this episode

Natalie

You know nothing about them then lol

Natalie

idk about radicalized i def agree he's surprised me

Natalie

The way this information is really not readily available to Americans bless you're actively looking for it or are exposed to it on social media is really disturbing to me. Like if I was to talk with my coworker about this I would sound insane but it's because that's what ""they"" want!!! thank you for discussing these topics

Tyler

About time Chapo talked about Project 2025 lol

Reece Coren

i could listen to jeremy’s rant at the beginning 50 times in a row. great episode. thank you for being one of the only american outlets doing real journalism right now <3

Felix

wtf is grayzone

The Steel Harvest

can't agree more: Young Biden with his faculties intact was more of a threat to prosperity and the American dream than current Joe being drugged and controlled by the deep state. Amazing episode.

The Steel Harvest

if Bernie was in power I question what he would have done about israel when he would have had to own his inaction/failure to speak out. If that was his record and he was in the WH, it would not be like Oct 7 wouldn't happen. It would just be a question of how many less kids would be killed in Gaza.

J.P. McD.

Has it been circulating yet that Pelosi’s quote this morning is exactly what Tony Soprano says in S3E13? “More important than the particular decision is that it be made *in a timely fashion*” (after the other guy already had made his decision clear)

Cullen S

This wolf howls with happiness for the following reasons: —Top Quality slop 💎 —Excellent Guests ✌️ —Matt mentions ❤️

wolfgang

Reality Winner is doing a 5 and a half year bid because of the intercepts’ ineptitude. I remember listening to Scahill defend their position the following week, and it made me sick. That was the last time I gave Scahill any attention. I’m glad he’s cutting his ties from the intercept(and its billionaire SV backing) but there’s a certain irony in calling the NYT sloppy, and how journalistic institutions don’t check each other as they did before. I look forward to hearing from more Palestinian Journalists(primarily sources) in the future, as opposed to very comfortable podcasters who have little stake in frankly any outcome.

Jaime Christley

that as may be. everything in moderation and whatnot

FarmerNed

joatmeal will name his own presidential succesors in this order: wife, dead son, live son

Riley Ken

Jeremy Scahill been that dude for a minute. He’s a god dang problem for the state

Josh Bobst

It's somehow reassuring and comforting to hear a big important journalist like Ryan Grim echo our recognition of Matt as an important intellectual figure on the contemporary left. I've been thinking for a few years he and Briahna Joy Gray are taking over for Chomsky (because of course no one person could equal Chomsky's output, or range). I think of Gray as taking on Chomsky's role of Socratic questioning of the official narratives, in a way that maybe eclipses Chomsky in that specific remit. I think she might actually be better at it than Socrates was, a real hero and genius. I expect either we get a better system or she ends up a martyr. And Matt as subsuming Chomsky's role of analysing the whole overall zeitgeist and synthesizing new ways of expressing a leftist understanding of it, but critically, in the contemporary vernacular. Chomsky was never afraid to let slip his annoyance at official hypocrisy, but Matt really embraces expressing our rage at it as a kind of self conscious project. I'd like to add, though, that I feel something important is missing in Matt's Spanish Civil War series, and that's Chris Wade's narrative framework setting up Matt to riff on. I just don't think it's as good when Matt has to do both roles.

Josh Bobst

*sigh* That would be better than this

Josh Bobst

I mean, he certainly has stepped up his public speaking abilities since he first started hosting Rising after Krystal and Sagar left. Then he was so terrible I stopped tuning in, even though I love his reporting. He was not a good news anchor. He was not good at public speaking. But he took our criticism there and now he is good.

Smalls

Fantastic episode

Emily Richardson

There is something magical when it’s Matt & Chris + history.

David Popoola

Canadian civilians genuinely better pray not a single person from your country ever gets any ideas about America. . .

Look there's no reason to lash out, having excellent taste in podcasts is a thing to be proud of! Don't let the mean people who go around calling you a "nerd" or accuse you of having a "parasocial" relationship with a podcast get you down! I mean, it's the best podcast around! Well I'm preaching to the choir here I mean your intense dedicated love of this podcast is obvious despite any attempt to obscure the truth, so let's enioy it together! Thats the only reason to hang out here anyway, right?

DC714

Matt Christman's way of verbalizing all of our ANGER is sorely missed.

DC714

If Will and Felix ever open up a 3rd spot permanently it needs to be someone with the same untethered rage at the system as Christman

Can you get an Edgar if you have a bit of a widow’s peak?

Heart hands in the chat for Matt 🫶

Zen Ben

Ryan has learned to do "TV voice", which is the ticket to getting on large MSM channels. He is one of the few people on the Left who can code-switch like that, which makes him an MVP.

Nimzomitch

Ryan running cover for the squad to preserve his access while writing a book means we can never know if he's being real or not, maybe he's preserving access for his next thing
