I always thought the coconut tree thing, while being a weird turn of phrase, was actually just an argument against policy which tries to address problems without considering the underlying contexts which lead to them. Like you have an increase in property crime, you could fall out of a coconut tree and say the solution is to hire more cops or you could exist in the context of everything which came before you and understand that it's a direct consequence of growing income inequality. Same thing for the genocide in Gaza, you could say that it's the fault of Hamas for October 7 or you could be realistic and acknowledge the 75 years of occupation and oppression which preceded it. What I'm trying to say here is: Khive, stand back and stand by.

Kudos to Jacques for the hilarious "Exit to Eden" reference, absolutely fucking insane movie that used to air on HBO quite a bit back in the day. Only watched it as a 14 year old because of Dana Delany having a full frontal nude scene, but saw it again at some point in my 20s and I couldn't believe how jaw-droppingly bizarre it is.

Every episode drop day of CTH feels like a holiday, but this episode had the vibe of spending Thanksgiving at your sister in-law’s house and having to take one for the team by sitting at the kids table because the formal table is full-up. One kid is trying to impress the company and the other just got out of a therapeutic boarding school (Maybe Red River, iykyk) and his only remaining social skill is irreverent humor. Poor Jacque sounds like he never learned the difference between being critical vs contrarian. Part of why I love the Chapo crew is that they balance intellect and transgression, but his kid just does not have the same juice. Looking through the comments it seems like a lot of us got some schadenfreude from this kid getting dunked on and… yeah, I get it. Especially after that “…sometimes, millennials” aside after being utterly incomprehensible for and hour… Geese, now I know what it must feel like to be “Ok, Boomered.” So thanks for that.
