Saw Eephus this weekend with some friends. Thought it was great. The movie really captures the feel of a baseball game. The best metaphor for the times would have been if they were building a prison on the field, rather than a school. But maybe this is just undue pessimism of the present-era speaking.

What he's doing instead is a rally with Congressman Steven Fucking Horsford, who never saw a defense appropriation he couldn't get a hard-on for and has taken an anti-trans turn since the election (literally voted to ban Tricare from covering transition care in December among other crap). And the rally is going to be in the more progressive Dina Titus's district, apparently without Titus. So it seems like Bernie's actual goal at this point is to cover for the most quisling Dems backing Trump's policies while enabling the scapegoating of Palestinians, trans people, and whatever other punching bags get added to the mix. A few stray thoughts on sports. Baseball is such a great communal activity. You just sit there, taking turns doing a pretty fun physical activity, and dick around and chat. It is like you are transported back to the kind of easy friendships that are the lifeblood of childhood but we feel lacking in adult life. A sport with that much downtime will never survive as a spectator sport but every American should be required to actually play it a few times a month. There would never be another school shooting. I mainly play basketball and it is interesting for a totally different reason as it is so intensely communal and cooperative/competitive that it precipitates a whole range of communal institution to manage these things. I feel like my regular basketball game has an entire constitution's worth of unwritten rules that allows us to cooperate, include everyone and manage everyone's egos. So it is cool but it is less social fun than baseball (but it is better exercise and I enjoy the actual act a bit more).

So true. And there is no recourse. I got the dumbest ticket for pulling into angled street parking when it’s apparently backing in only. I saw no sign anywhere near my spot to say that it was back in only, and I have literally never heard of that before. You basically have to pay it in order to contest it and maybe get a refund. I sent pictures and a letter, but of course they didn’t care. That’s also why I don’t feel bad for telling the city that it wasn’t me in that photo speeding ticket. I double checked and there was nothing about being penalized for lying, so fuck em.

I had a Swedish exchange student when I was in high school and he joined the baseball team with me on a whim. After he returned to Sweden, he played on a club baseball team circuit for a couple years before getting tired of it. They do have these little baseball leagues all over Europe, but they are typically peopled by expats from the Americas mostly from My experience.

Got a reply to my email to Rep Auchincloss re: Mahmoud Khalil. He describes Khalil as “an anti-Israel activist” who was arrested “for his own role in violent protests” and says his actions were “despicable”, but that he has the right to due process and that “US officials may have acted unprofessionally in their arrest”.
