Casino headz we have ARRIVED

Isaac Jones

Erm yeah, I'm thinking it's Casino time

king_von_diesel

KON AND SCHEIDER. Fuck yall know me too well

bugtank

Finally. all that jazz. You can all be haunted fully by “you better change your ways” and the greatest scene ever put to film - “goodbye happiness”.

H.L. Merkin

ROY. SCHEIDER. Folks…it’s showtime.

Chris

Let’s fucking go!

Mike

Banger after banger. Peckinpah and Hong Kong Action are God-tier movie mindset lineups.

Richard JUUL

Killer lineup. Found a used copy of "Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia" a few months back and decided to pick it up. Warren Oates is incredible in it.

Drew

SO PUMPED

bugtank

I’m so very happy about perfect blue. But All that Jazz. Outstanding.

Meowzedong

We are so fucking back 🙂‍↕️

Zach H.

Excellent picks and some interesting groupings. The Beguiled and Electra Glide in Blue are both criminally under seen.

Hick Rhodes

Holy hell. Let’ssss go! Honestly a whole season on Hong Kong would rip. Give me Wong Kar Wai, Irma Vepp… 90s end of British empire stuff. But then, ya know, Casino and Sorcerer too. Helluva lineup.

Tim O'

Folks, they're saying that it might be the best season yet

Hick Rhodes

Also when’s Will going in the criterion closet. People are asking that more and more.

Scott Bell

Love that I can count on yall putting together a slate of movies I haven't seen before. I've only seen 5 of the 19 films featured here and M. Butterfly was only once 20 years ago. I barely remember it. I don't think I'm going to skip any of these on "already seen it" grounds. When I watched Casino, also quite a while ago, I wrote it off as a worse remake of Goodfellas. So, curious to see if my opinion changed. Also, been meaning to rewatch perfect blue and the red shoes for quite some time. Great excuse.

Wesley Campbell Caretto

[Looking at the streaming guide] It's on Tubu. It's literally on Heebee. It's on Poodee with ads. It's literally on Dippy. You can probably find it on Weeno. Dude it's on Gumpy. It's a Pheebo original. It's on Poob. You can watch it on Poob. You can go to Poob and watch it. Log onto Poob right now. Go to Poob. Dive into Poob. You can Poob it. It's on Poob. Poob has it for you. Poob has it for you.

Xi

I was just thinking about rewatching Casino after seeing some clips on YT. Pure serendipity.

Warbs

Looks great, can't wait!

ZeeBee

Bummed that there's still no David Lynch episode, but also slightly relieved that I don't have to worry about the possibility of Will inexplicably hating one of his masterpieces.

HarshMalarkey

Bout damn time we got some Peckinpah up in here

Kainien Morel

Very pleased to see my guess of 'Casino' was indeed correct for seminal film of the Chapo canon. Hard Boiled and Police Stories are nice treats, but come to think of it I'm surprised MM hasn't visited Satoshi Kon previously (as far as I know), love it if MM looked at 'Millenium Actress' at some point, but maybe it's too...heartwarmingly kind and beautiful. Definitely looking forward to all three.

Matthew

People are telling me the Casino review stands to be Chapo's greatest since JFK, I hear it a lot

TLT

Hell ya

Logan Watson

We might get one for Horror movie mindset

lin hou

I'm not a movie person but casino is one of my favorite movies & I'll definitely be listening to that podcast.

Axel H.

Perfect Blue 😍 Finally some more weeb recognition from Movie Madness.

Dylan

“Fandango From Home”

benabu

Point Blank and Naked. Two of my all-time favourite films that each made me a worse person in my mid-teens. Is that negative Movie Mindset?

Kyle Cassidy

George Saunders go on Chapo.

Edgar

Wow, anyone else only seen Casino?

Jaime Christley

I read somewhere that Donald Westlake thought Lee Marvin was an ok match for "Parker" (a name film adaptations couldn't use until Westlake's death) but thought Jack Palance was more in line with who he pictured of when writing the books. Jim Brown played the role in THE SPLIT (1968), not a bad film at all; it's Robert Duvall in THE OUTFIT (1973), also not too shabby. The absolute best match for Parker, imho, is Michel Constantin, who played the role in the French adaptation of THE SCORE from 1967, MISE Á SAC - that's the one where they steal an entire town, only to discover that the mastermind of the plan only really wanted to pay off some personal beefs and grudges. Anyway if you look up Constantin (a regular for Jean-Pierre Melville and Jacques Becker, and a sometimes heavy opposite Charles Bronson), I believe you will agree.

Yarblockos

We love Casino don't we folks?

Yarblockos

This list feels like Christmas

More Human than Human

All of Kon’s movies are amazing. It’s a shame he died so young he was awesome

Munir hakim

Hell yeah dude I'll try follow along better this time

Jordan Brewer

Police Story is the best. Jackie chasing after a bus…Jackie kicking everyone’s ass…Jackie almost losing his girlfriend…

Cody S

Hong Kong action is gonna whip!

Kade

Sooo fucking stoked for hard boiled and police story. Most hard body shit out

Jabroni Ludd

DM Edits on youtube has an incredible trailer for Electra Glide in Blue. And Lee Marvin in Point Blank is the shit. So stoked.

No

Point Blank one of the best movies ever made

Maxwelle

Absolutely fire lineup

Zac Schwartz

I feel like I'm losing my mind...didn't they already do an episode about Casino a month or two ago?

T

I loved Electra Glide in Blue so much when I was in highschool. It was my favourite movie then. I'm always amazed at Will's 100% perfect taste in movies and other artforms too. HE NEVER MISSES!

T

But also please do an episode on Threads at some point because that's the #1 movie I want to hear a Movie Mindset about

Aaaaaaaaaaa

I am once again asking Mr and Ms Mindset to not read anything about Paul Schrader’s recent events, and do a Mishima-First Reformed double feature

SebastianJarzab

Matt and Will did a deep dive on it on another podcast a couple years back

Richard Cochnar

I watched Light Sleeper when I had Covid and it was the loneliest I’ve felt in years.

Dank Widow

I JUST bought Red Shoes At goodwill in VHS

Stinky Lomax

Very excited for Wild in the Streets! Never trust anyone over 30!

Wagner Koop

I am sooooo excited for perfect blue 💙

Ian Salyers

Aw no fritz lang. Oh well, they were good movies to watch anyway

tapwaterskeptic

Wow glad to see my two pod moms are still at it - I don’t really care for films but happy they both have a fun little hobby

Warbs

I recommend the ReelGood app (or is there something better?). You punch in your streaming app and then you search for a movie and it shows you results for the services you have. It will also show all the streaming options that have that movie.

Marshall Hanson

The Paul Schrader allegations ruined my week

Paul F. Holzfäller

The Casino episode needs to begin with Will and Hesse saying “peekaboo yew fucks yew” in unison.

Mike

Hardboiled being on YouTube rules I've been dying for a rewatch of that

Ant koz

Friedkins sorcerer rips so fucking hard that is top tier shit, wish it was a double feature of him with French connection or live die in LA, and so long as I’m dreaming I’ll put in my all time request for a Michael Mann double feature of manhunter and thief, or just double up on Peterson and do manhunter/LA?… to be honest this pilgrim really just wants to hear willhessa speak on manhunter my all time fave …

Paul F. Holzfäller

I’m down. I wasn’t expecting that film to be as scary as it was.

Jaime Christley

I think you’ll be surprised! My read on it is that Kon is solidified as a major dude. If you haven’t listened to the Blank Check miniseries on his films, they come highly recommended.

Jaime Christley

Criterion has rarely been more correct than when they upgraded THE WAGES OF FEAR to 4K and then announced SORCERER in the same format. Two great tastes that taste great together.

Zach G

Incredible lineup

Tetsuo Shima

My favorite lineup yet. Can't wait

Nicholas Johnson

So excited for the season - any chance you guys will sell more hats??

Anomalie

hell yea Perfect Blue, I got to see a theater screening of it, amazing on the big screen

etienne

every Scorcese ive seen left me neutral to severely disappointed, its basically always just unbelievably obnoxious men yelling at each other for way too long and not much happens. I'll try to give Casino a shot but i would say most of his stuff is not quote "Absolute Cinema"

etienne

ERRRRMMM they did do Patlabor you absolute gaijin

Jon W

I think I've seen maybe two or three of these before. Will and Hess love their 70s flix.

justdave

The Beguiled? Well I do declare! *waves hand-fan leisurely*

T

And don't watch his Adam Friedland Show interview where he says that he's a gay (I guess bi, since he also sexually assaults women) pedophile. Not even joking. It's near the very end of the interview.

lawn

Do you guys want a copy editor hehe I could spell check cronenberg for yall

T

I'm assuming his movie Silence doesn't have obnoxious men yelling at each other, just based on the title

etienne

they call it "Silence" because if anyone even saw it they aren't talking

Axel H.

Casino is a lot of yelling too, but this time from Sharon Stone.

CS

10/10, one note: I think you should sub out “obnoxious men” for “Italians”

Red Scare Spice

I’m going through chemo which means lots of days spent in bed watching tv. If I can stream all these, it’ll be a fun project to watch along with the gang!

etienne

I'm including WoWS in there so it also includes uhhhh traders and ... financiers

etienne

I guess I am, I watched Paprika way back which is certified 100% pure freak shit and very good, from same director

Tim O'

Happy watching and all the best with your recovery ❤️

TC

When January 6th was happening I was completely unaware bc I was moving into a new place all day, and by that I mean watching Casino in my living room.

shinyfailure

Casino is a lot of men yelling at each other, and even more voiceover. Honestly I’ve never understood the Chapo love for it. It’s not bad but it’s mid-tier Scorsese at best.

etienne

halfway through it right now and it fucking sucks 👍

DS

Casino is so fucking good. Can watch with the guys. Can watch with my 72 year old mom. That's the metric for a great movie.

Suzie

Don't forget you might be able to find some of these movies in physical format at your public library or through the online resources like Hoopla or Kanopy.

Shiv

Been meaning to rewatch a few of these for ages (Casino, Crying Game, Police Story!) now I can pretend I’m doing it for a Film Class 🫡

Shiv

Wishing you a smooth recovery. ❤️‍🩹

em

All available on torrentgalaxy for free!!

k v

SORCERER

thicchatlogan

I feel the exact same way about their love for the Irishman, I like Scorsese well enough but that one was boring as fuck imo. and the CGI de-aging looks like shit, no idea why everyone rightfully said it looked uncanny and horrible when they did it to Carrie Fisher but Scorsese gets a pass for it.

Luke B

Casino is the film Scorsese should have won best director for. Excellent.

Skooks

Casino is on Tubi now

Joey Fazzoli

Was not expecting “Bring me the head of Alfredo Garcia” to cause a religious experience

Evan G

Casino this, Casino that...some know that they're talking about one of the best movies ever this season...ALL THAT JAZZ

Broadway Joe

The Crying Game is available to stream for free on Kanopy.

Duncan

If you have a library card there's a good chance your library can order any movie you want to you free of charge by tapping into other libraries collections. Used to handle MelCat at a Michigan library and it's an amazing system that is not used enough

Eamon Short

> Pirate > Chapo sub > That profile pic > That user name I sure hope you're a hot lady, and if you aren't, don't tell me.

em

I’m Gay Adam!

Cooper DeMarse

Is the goal to watch the movie and then listen to the podcast right after? What’s the order of operations here?

Karl

Watch first then listen

manbob

No Lynch episode for shame.

manbob

Will had done a tribute to Lynch at the end of an episode a while ago though I'm really surprised there's still no dedicated MM.

Infomercial

Perfect blue AND sorcerer. Absolutely goated season coming up

Ant koz

“Supernaturally good” is well put… it immediately brings to mind Roy Schneider arriving with the nitroglycerin, stumbling dog tired and delusional, but still driven, (supernaturally even) pulled like a magnet towards the fires of capital

Ant koz

I need haneke too …

Caitlin-Kangaroo

The Red Shoes ❤️ one of my faves. Amazing choreography by the Australian Robert Helpmann. We named our Theatre Awards after him. ❤️
