The freaks on CNN/Fox are mad. Feels good to see the people I hate feel bad. I saw Zohran in the flesh during a 15 day hunger strike for taxi drivers outside of city hall in Manhattan in 2021. He, along with with the taxi drivers, were in wheel chairs because they were too frail to stand. I knew (at least I really really think) that he’s a Real One. I have no confidence in the Democrats obviously but I feel like he’s going to be good. Please god, allah, kami-sama, whatever, please let him be good.

I am the same demographic as Will and Alan. Later in life I have come to the conclusion that George Bush and Tipper Gore were actually correct and that the influence of the Simpsons actually did make me a worse kid as they defined it. I remember breaking rules more consciously and overtly after seeing Bart relish in his mischief. I break with them insofar as I do not think that is necessarily a bad thing and maybe it even made me cooler and a better adult. But I will give the devil his due.

I will say luckily in this case day one in office he can do two of his promises. Mayor has control of rent control in NYC and can dictate rate increases. So he can definitely freeze rents. And secondly he can absolutely get some bills signed into law. Some of them he promised and those will move fast.

28:30 the reason why Muhammad is the most common name in UK has to do with South Asia. Vast vast majority of Muslims in UK are from South Asia specifically Mirpur district of Pakistani Kashmir. In south Asian Muslim culture almost all males are given Muhammad as first names so much so that most have second first names that they go by. Hence folks we know as Nawaz Sharrif, Bollywood Superstar Aamir Khan, Shehbaz Sharrif, General Zia Ul Haq. All have Muhammad as their first name. UK has 6 % Muslim and 5 % Pakistani Muslim population. Imagine if 5 % of your countrymen has one name as first name, of course its gonna be ranked 1st.

I had a random roommate in Chicago like 15 years ago who did improv, and when she saw all my Simpsons DVDs she told me she'd never seen it. I was shocked because she was like 25 and ostensibly into comedy. I told her it's my favorite show, that I fall asleep to it every night, and that she had to watch. She watched a couple of my favorite episodes with me, didn't laugh at all. Later I learned she also fell asleep to DVDs of her favorite show every night, Boy Meets World, which would make her cackle. Loudly. Side note, first time I met her bf (also an improviser, but with a drama/theater background), he picked up my Eastbound and Down DVD, looked at me stone-faced and goes, "Seriously? It's so sophomoric." Just an altogether dogshit couple.

One thing that isn’t discussed enough here is that this shattered the exact coalition that the democrats had relied on to beat progressive/socialist candidates over the past decade, which is the alliance that was formed around 2016 between black voters and moderates, which delivered Hillary and Biden nyc in 2016/2020, cuomo the governship and adams the mayorship and royally ate shit this time. In a lot of ways I think that’s what’s causing such a major freakout among Dems because it means their winning formula for centrist victories has been placed on fraud watch

There was a time in my life when, despite not working there, I got to spend quite a bit of time in and around the Simpsons writer’s room. I got to meet a few of the show’s living legends who were still there. John Vitti and his wife once set me up on a blind date. I can even say I made a contribution to a gag that made it to air. This was far from the “golden” era, and the room was truly one of the most miserable, demoralized environments I’ve ever witnessed, with the showrunner at the time being the single worst office manager I’ve ever seen
