Kath Kreuger joins the original trio to talk about ContraPoints' long-awaited statement on Israel, the Trump administration's Epstein bait-and-switch, and Grok's evolution into MechaHitler. We finally discuss the horrific flooding in Texas and who is responsible for the climbing death count (it's the weather machines) before closing out with another Stroke of Genius from Matt.

I always enjoy a Katherine episode.

Matt's back BABBBYYYY EDIT: Always knew CP was a lib. Another edit I didn't think about how that may be misread, I mean 'ContraPoints' but I've leaving it as is otherwise the replies would be confusion

Eli

Just gonna gloss over the fact that you spent all week on the west coast while hasan was in nyc for the first time in 23 years….

Talcum Gladwell

Ever since Matt’s stroke, any slop-gap of this length makes me immediately assume the worst. Very relieved everything is fine and we can all enjoy a nice Friday night talking about child molesters and genocide.

Also holy shit I’m sick of hearing about Contrapoints, of whom I was completely unaware until this week’s slopcycle, I think starting with Hasan

I’ve been so annoyed about this stupid contra points bullshit hearing Matt laughing at her is a balm to my soul

It took me way too fucking long to figure out this is a Hasan did 9/11 joke

He did, btw

Mac daddy

Sippin on that contrapoints tea.. her post has brought out some serious 2017 energy in a lot of usually-tolerable progressives. I saw a lady making the argument that zero criticism of her is acceptable bc of how transphobic america is, even though 95% of the criticism is from staunch trans allies

Schwartz666

Throw in a lil (large) Matt, and I'll forgive (most) anything...😘

Contrapoints is for too online liberal millennials what Bill Maher is for hysterical boomer centrists

Tvvvv

I had a strange/lame dream recently where Matt returned to the show healed with speech fully restored. Though in the dream all of his audio still came through a tin can.

JDF

Kath Kontent is always a treat

JDF

fascinating

EXN

How about following this up w/ an episode on Taibbi's shit takes

Jeremy Hawkins

Love the Kath episodes! It's funny to be like "why hasn't Contrapoints made a video about Gaza" when she hasn't made a political video in years. She was canceled and makes a video about an aspect of being canceled once every 14 months. If she makes a video about it now, it will be in the context of being canceled for her opinions for it. She is a true liberal ideologue in that she has zero conception of political action outside of individual actions.

JDF

Dirlewanger psychosis has become aerosolized

DT

We're gonna need a Hell on Earth length series to cover that ground, bud.

Evan Scott

I've been a subscriber since i think 2017 or 2018 and I've always respected all of you (and still do!) For not keeping a strict release schedule. But i will say that ever since matt had his stroke i start to get worried when episodes get released late. I'm not upset when it happens cause shit happens, i guess i just never thought i would ever have the slightest parasocial relationship with podcasters. Anyway love yall, keep doing what you do, I'm glad the little bit of anxiety i had today was soothed by Matt being on especially. Keep doing what yall do.

T33ny

I wonder if anyone asked Contrapoints if we needed congressional approval to bomb iran?

EXN

lmao - no true. he's been sadly unreadable since he left Useful Idiots.

krumping4

finally breaking omerta on a former guest, after all these years

John S

I can already see/hear the Contrapoints reaction video to Reddit Gaza post reactions montage in my mind. I'm 17 minutes in and tbh the bathtub/chandelier part was pretty good.

Twistedsister

It’s nice to see them shitting all over that fucking idiot. It seems like they back off from criticizing former guests but that shit was risible

Jeremy Hawkins

I can't believe that people thought that the the thing that she said when she was playing a character that seemed to be the main character of the video who was having a conversation with her foil, also played by her was her opinion. This is worse than when people don't realize that The Nostalgia Critic doesn't have the same opinions as Doug Walker.

Regarding Contrapoints: "I. Doom. The week after October 7 it was clear the mood among Israeli leaders and civilians was overwhelmingly kill-or-be-killed existential panic and unstoppable lust for revenge. It reminded me of the US after 9/11. There was no reasoning or protesting them out of it. Nor was it politically feasible for the US to withdraw aid to Israel on a timeframe that would make a difference. It would have required replacing most of Congress and overturning decades of bipartisan strategy and diplomacy. Even in the best case scenario, it would’ve taken years. So there was a sense of futility. But worse:" She's technically correct with all of this but, whether she realizes it or not, this undermines her later points. The most I'd argue is that, there was at least once a time where it was politically feasible for the US to withdraw aid or diplomatic ties, even if it would take years to do so. Yes, it took decades of global-scale protests and agitation to end apartheid in South Africa, but it wouldn't have happened at all if the world, as envisioned through the UN as an international community, didn't agitate to view South Africa as a pariah-state unless they conceded to end apartheid. Why *isn't* it politically feasible anymore? The only possible reasons I can come up with are either: - The Executive Branch has been as disempowered as it's ever been (which, as far as I can tell, only the opposite has happened; Democrats and Republicans alike are, in fact, currently braying for *more* executive powers be given to the presidency) - There are people in the Federal government who are independently, ideologically committed Zionists (might be true for Joe Biden and maybe John Fetterman, but I don't believe this is the driving force for most of the people in government) - The people in the Fed govt. view Israel as our greatest ally in the Middle East, evidently great enough to risk operating as if we're in a suicide-pact (this is admittedly very broad and can be broken down into all sorts of reasons, but suffice to say that whatever the reasons may be, I believe this the driving force behind most people in the Fed govt.) And potentially related to the previous reason: - There are political forces realizing that all the crises coming about in the 21st century is going to usher a Gramscian time of monsters and they pathologically feel compelled to defend Israel's actions as preparation of what they may have to do to *other* people like, say, political/climate refugees.

Ghordo

"II. Misery. The leftist pro-Palestine movement quickly decided that their primary goal was not merely opposition to the genocide, but opposition to Zionism in general; that is, opposition to the existence of Israel as a Jewish state. And here they decided to draw the line separating decent people from genocidal fascists, which had the following consequences: - 1. It shrunk the coalition. “Zionist” is a very broad category. Most Jews are Zionists. Anyone who supports a two-state solution is a Zionist. - 2. It was politically infeasible. What is the pathway that takes us from the present situation to the dissolution of Israel as a Jewish state? I don’t see how this could happen without either a total internal collapse of Israeli society or else, you know, nuclear war. As usual, leftists have championed a doomed cause. - 3. It introduced dangerous ambiguities. The vagueness of “Zionism” as a political Satan enables all kinds of rhetorical abuses. On the one hand, rightwing Israelis hold up all Anti-Zionist protests as existentially threatening and inherently antisemitic. On the other hand, there is a long history of antisemites using the term “Zionist” in deliberately equivocal ways (ZOG, etc). Antisemites are happy for the opportunity to misappropriate the now-popular “Anti-Zionist” label to legitimize their agenda, and many people are not informed enough about antisemitism to recognize when this is happening. These problems are mutually reinforcing." The one good point she made here is the third bullet regarding how ambiguous anti-zionism can be. Otherwise, right off the bat, much of this point is undermined by her first point. If Israelis overwhelmingly reacted to October 7th with an exterminationist drive for revenge, it means that, even if there are massive swathes of diaspora Jews who are both Progressives and Zionists, there is an extremely stark difference between Zionism that exists in the Progressives' imaginations and the reality of Zionism expressed in Israel; And Zionism, by definition being a nationalism tied to a specific area of land, is going to be most represented by the Zionists who actually live in Israel. This doesn't mean Progressive Zionists need to move (nor should they), but at this rate, the Zionism that's going to be remembered the most is the one currently expressed in Israel. As for the second bullet, I don't have much to say other than that it is a testament to the sheer lack of any kind of UN-scale political movement like the anti-apartheid movement of the 80s/90s.

Ghordo

"III. Dread. The online left has spent the last 20 months distributing hundreds of photos and videos of dead Palestinian children. The main effect of this has been to create a population of people in a constant state of bloodboiling rage with no consequential political outlet. I fear this may be worse than useless. Antisemitism and Anti-Zionism are conceptually not the same, and conflating them is dangerous. But in practice, the way Israel is perceived does seep out into attitudes toward Jews in general. I don’t think Jews who feel isolated and wary in the current atmosphere are simply hysterical or hallucinating. Yes, there’s communal trauma and hypervigilance. Yes, there’s disingenuous rightwing ghouls dismissing and censoring all criticism of Israel on the pretext of “fighting antisemitism.” But there’s also a valid fear of historical antisemitic patterns recurring, and that fear gives power to the rightwing Zionist claim that only Israel can keep Jews safe. Does this mean Israel should not be criticized and sanctioned? Absolutely not. But it’s something I don’t want to risk contributing to if not outweighed by tangible benefits. So, I approach the issue cautiously." Distributing the gore pictures/videos is extreme, but what are you supposed to do in the US when there is a concerted effort to simply not have to think about anything that's going on, least of all the politicians who have the most power to do anything about this? We in the US are already acclimated to forever wars happening oceans away, and that's with hundreds to thousands of American citizens directly at stake of dying. To not show the brutality of the people being murdered is to rely entirely on the goodness of politicians' hearts to be swayed over with facts and logic.

Ghordo

"IV. Bitterness. Much of the online left spent all of 2024 single-mindedly focused on Palestine and the complicity of Democratic politicians in sending aid to Israel. This campaign had the following effects: - 1. Zero Palestinian lives were saved. Not one fewer bomb or bullet was fired by the IDF. - 2. It may have slightly contributed to the reelection of Trump, guaranteeing that the US will put no diplomatic pressure on Netanyahu for at least four years, and making protests against Israel both much riskier and less effective. Trump is also, incidentally, a menace to me and basically everyone I care about. A perfectly enlightened being would feel no bitterness about this, but I do." The first bullet isn't even wrong; it's complementary to her first point. The second bullet, however, is something that I take personally. I'm sick and fucking tired of "The Left" having this magical quality of being evidently so irrelevant that the Dems neither need to cater to nor be disciplined by the Leftists among their voter base, while simultaneously being so apparently large and powerful enough that we singlehandedly caused Kamala Harris to lose to Trump. No. What caused the Dems to lose the 2024 election was that Joe Biden *insisted* on running for a second term (because norms, after all, dictate that presidents should run until their term limit), only to be shown on live television that he was sundowning right next to Trump who, just a week later, was inches away from getting JFK'd, only to get the greatest photoshoot anyone running in an election could ever get. *Even then*, it still took a few more weeks for the Dems to finally start throwing Biden under the bus and get Harris to campaign. *EVEN THEN*, Kamala Harris was specifically instructed to run her election campaign on exactly all the things Biden was supposed to campaign for. She couldn't deviate on anything, and to add fuel to this dumpster fire, she had campaign advisors from the British Labour Party that worked on Keir Starmer's campaign. You know? The Party and the man hellbent on going as far to the Right as much as they can, compared to where the Labour Party started? So many fuck-ups of the Liberals were entirely self-inflicted. Why should "The Left" be shamed for not doing apologetics for a Party dominated by a political wing that *hates* them?

Kelley

Every single day that I see images of the horror in Palestine I cry. I literally fucking cry when I see it, because I have two young children and I’m a human and it horrifies me that people can justify brutally murdering fucking BABIES. I cry because I know how I would feel if my baby was blown apart, and I will never ever be desensitized to that. And I reject the idea that any honest person could be. We aren’t desensitized to it, we just get better at ignoring it. That’s the thing that needs to be unacceptable. We cannot ignore this.

Ben H

I would appreciate the poems released in text, not because of delivery issues but because I'd like to read them as well

Ian H

@ 12:00 one really frustrating thing about Natalie embracing this neolib politics of the impossible bullshit is that all the third way/"popularist"/abundance cretins made the *exact same argument* about trans rights after the election. The Carvilles and Shors were going on every outlet saying that "Kamala is for they/them" won the election for Trump, and that trans rights don't poll well, and activists even so much as discussing trans issues in public hurt Kamala because the public associated them with Dems, etc. Essentially demanding that trans people and their allies say/ask for *nothing*, ever, because nothing they want is politically feasible and drawing attention to their existence only hurts Dems and aids the more violently transphobic Republicans.

JDF

Matt closing us out with some Call Me Ishmael/ Olsonian type pomez

TugNuggins

Man, Matt sounding good!

Ian H

I still think all the time about the video of the little boy who was blown onto a neighbor's roof, sitting in front of the mangled corpses of his family, doing that little kid thing where they're hurt bad and don't start crying for a really long time, just hyperventilate and quiver while their bodies are too flooded with stress chemicals to react. It makes you want to tear your teeth out.

Sydney Thomas

Great ep! <3 Kath is always such a delight!

jay alan

Real classic ep right here. 🔥

Steel Rabbit

Yeah, he’s seriously sounding better with every ep he’s on.

Vincent W Troia

i’m surprised at how many lefties are vehemently (maybe too strong of word) against contrapoints post. i thought it seemed a little wishy washy, but it didn’t seem bullshity or fraudulent and hiding ulterior motives. it seemed like she was trying to describe a real and potentially valid take, even if it falls short. if she felt too personal about it, and therefor missing the bigger picture, then so does chapo for their response to it in my mind. idk if that makes sense. thoughts? and please don’t mock me or say some edgy shit genuinely just thinking about it.

Jack Sylvia

love a kath ep and matt sounds great

MCL

It’s kinda like boomers are undergoing collective dementia because of undiagnosed lead poisoning and the defunding of all mental health services and all of us should desperately take the keys away from them immediately, or we can put them all on buses and dump them in the desert to die, which I think is actually the best thing to do. Or we could also blow up all the power stations at the Villages in Florida and leave them dying in the heat with no AC. whatever retires the most boomers. The future needs them gone

Ana

I'd like to see Bernie and AOC get this level of heat given they have actual power and do WAY more to support the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians than some YouTuber does. Some of us still remember AOC's immortal words "Kamala is working tirelessly for a ceasefire" given she said them LESS THAN A YEAR AGO. Or, you know, their flagrant refusal to ever oppose "defense" spending. AOC literally CRIED and said "I don't like conflict" as justification for voting for funding the Iron Dome in her first year in congress for God sake. Oh, and the whole "having anti-genocide protestors dragged away by police from your alleged 'anti-oligarchy' rallies" thing.

Ben

Matt sounds really good

Drew

Never apologize for "late" episodes. Block anyone who complains.

Evysaurus

It’s so heartbreaking as a former contrapoints fan, seeing her decline into this utterly embarrassing display of preening and self aggrandizement. It’s so obvious in the way that she writes that she hasn’t logged off in years and is just eating herself alive with bitter indignation. The whole thing reads like when you break up with a shitty ex and they start writing missives with a quill. She should go back to her penthouse tea time and leave interesting sex and genuine human connection to the anarcho-cat girlies she seems to be so fixated on. God forbid someone has principles that extend beyond the realm of the self.

Vincent W Troia

i don’t get how that answers what i said, or what counterpoints was getting at. i’m being serious. i don’t think anyone is downplaying how bad it is. including chapo of course

Michael

Trump appears to be doing for Immigration enforcement what George W. Bush did for intelligence post 9/11. Paying for private contractors to build a massive detention and deportation apparatus to deal with the “threat” of the day.

Harry P. Ness

I can't tell if I'm just emotionally attached or if you'll have been as good as ever lately. Thank you for not being unnecessarily charitable to Contrapoints.

Esteé Dee

This slop was worth waiting for. Matt sounds strong. 💪❤️

JD Nonce

It just occurred to me that- I live in Japan which is a place Felix often says nice things about, but then he talked about humidity this episode and lemme tell ya, if you don’t like humidity you don’t like Japan!

Alex Weber

If you agree that Israel is committing a genocide (fucking duh you stupid bitch), then you cannot disagree with the response to this. Sorry that none of us want another 7 year old’s brain to be split into 1000 pieces. Fucking die if you disagree with any “online left” response to a genocide that WE fund. MY dollars went to a bomb that killed Palestinians.

plainwrap

Kind of a weird analogy, but the liberals pissed off at all of us for caring about the genocide remind me of the evil version of Matt's 2020 grillpill philosophy. In both cases it was a reaction to political loss; Bernie losing the primary then, Biden/Kamala losing now. Matt's grillpill was about tuning out the election "voteball" sport and the Libs now are tuning out the Gaza genocide, in their minds a distraction from voteball. One of the things Matt liked to harp about was Russiagate liberals trying to force him to be upset about Trump news on the TV without any real outlet ("what am I supposed to feel..? mad?"), which sounds almost note for note what Contrapoints is angry about with the "online left" sharing atrocity videos from Palestine. Of course the classic grillpill was all about keeping oneself calibrated to a politics of empathy and 'doing what you can to help whoever you can'. Liberals still can't manage that when it's not voting season.

If the recent floods in Texas were a football game I think it would be the 1991 Cotton Bowl when the University of Miami beat Texas 46-3 and the U had more penalty yards than Texas had total offence.

Mojtaba HUSAYNI Khamenei

Who cares if it's honest of her? Who actually gives a shit? Your framing is the lib shit of speaking your truth and validity and all that. Who gives a fuck? It's not that it's her personal opinion - it's narcissistic. It's ENTIRELY about her and her feelings. When has Chapo ever done that on this issue? Case in point - she blamed the online left for circulating the images out of Gaza, when that is EXACTLY what Palestinians are filming that stuff for and BEGGING us to do. She's narcissistic to the point of being evil and there's no two ways about it.

James Phipps

@56:00 before Trump’s asshole austerity Kerr County Commissioners Court went out of their way not to spend less than million dollars on civil defense alert systems because they said the people who benefited were hippies & Californians. No really.

Joey Fazzoli

Renouncing my us citizenship soon, where should I live instead? Rn I’m thinking Malaysia

DiamondDave

That sleezy fuck on the left in the pic has been our president for almost 5 years, it's still disgustingly surreal ain't it

Joe D’grinda

The issue of Palestine is a very simple one and if a person somehow doesn’t understand that and makes it over complicated then we have nothing to talk about. Sorry for being too hardline about it or whatever. Defend and support liberation for people here and abroad from the reactionary forces that threaten us. End of story

Ivy Green

Oh dude, out in Az we get a plague case every few years here. You can actually cure bubonic plague with antibiotics. If they had tried to get treatment sooner, they likely would’ve survived. They probably thought they just had COVID or an upper respiratory infection. It’s sad but not unheard of here unfortunately.

K H

Oh Natalie. Could have just stopped at Q:A number 3 and been golden. Not everyone needs to talk about the holocaust, but if ya do, don't tell everyone that talks about it that it's bad optics. The simultaneous immutability and frailty of the system reveals a path in brutal honesty. The price for the future we want will mean we can never see it. Why do you want Democrats to win? Just to assure your own comfort for a few more years? Ok, fine, but be honest. The liberal imperative is towards personal comfort, the conservative imperative is towards cruelty. Both are dishonest.

K H

Mighty uncle soul

Trebor

I wonder what her hookers and weed are/will be

K H

No public apologies. R Thats on Periodt.

K H

Yea AOC sucks, it is known. Bernie I believe is voting against arming Israel. Not sure about AOC. As long as they vote correctly, their speaking habits matter very little.

Hardly Worthit

Yeah good luck with your fancy "antibiotics", nerd. I'll be over here balancing my humours and stuff. For real though I was aware of other cases out that way from time to time. Hantavirus, too.

K H

"And you're not allowed to be mad at me." Yea I sort of agree, I do really vehemently hate people telling me acknowledging and boosting the fact we are doing a holocaust is bad for democrats, or helps Republicans though. It implies wanting Democrats to lose is bad, even though...holocaust. If they support arming Israel in any way I want them to lose and everyone to know that is the reason why. Every winner is also a spoiler. Actually reading a copy of her full statement others have posted here, it's stupid bullshit. She should know better. Reaction is warranted. She can double down like Jk Rowling or get her mind right.

Fink

Matt!!!

K H

Self induced schizophrenia. Weed is too strong and the ai too affirming.

Jackson

Shame a dude died but it's sort of funny the bubonic plague still exists but just kills a couple people a year and isn't much more than fodder for novelty headlines. Like it would be one thing if it were just completely extinct, or if it were still serious but kept contained like Ebola, but instead it just fully still exists and can kill but only does in a a few stray cases a year. It's like if you learned Jeffrey Dahlmer was still alive but had gone back to killing small animals so it wasn't a huge comcern

K H

I often remember a small girl sitting by herself shivering in the rain. A man asks what she is doing. She is the sole survivor of her family. She just wanted to sit out there, outside of the tent. He asks if he can sit with her, she accepts. I know a fraction of that feeling, to put it on a child is unforgivable.

chapo chat reference

Jeremy Hawkins

I think it's reasonable to say that neither the Chapo guys and Contrapoints have the perfect political perspective or have the perfect prescription to solve the Israel Palestine conflict (who does?) but none of these people represent anyone other than themselves and they dont have to. That being said, the Chapo guys generally say that they are encouraged by the working class going out in the streets and organizing and Contrapoints thinks about the optics, the futility of it all and "online left" and is pointing towards a dead end in the Democrats. She has made interesting videos, but from the many videos of hers thst I've watched and liked she just fundamentally is not inclined towards socialist politics. If you believe that everyone deserves peace, health, housing, ect, but don't think that you win these things through class struggle you're a nice person who wants good things, but you're not a socialist or another kind of "lefty".

Jingle Jangler

Its the physical enforcement infrastructure of a national intelligence program directed at its own people.

“2017 again” might be a throwaway to Felix but that’s treasure to me

Re contra points and the Dem leaders approach to public opinion: FDR and Lincoln were great at knowing what public opinion was and moving it to get their policies enacted. Lincoln felt the country shift on slavery and enacted the emancipation proclamation; FDR felt the country shift on isolationism and helped England and the USSR stay in the war even before Pearl Harbor. It’s not like the Dems are incompetent w/r/t shaping public opinion and implementing policy; it’s that they are actively hostile to giving Americans healthcare or stopping Israel’s genocide or any other issue that matters.

christoph.s

Ok Contrapoints we should not speak about a genocide bc it costs one of the two parties that actively fuels it votes. What does it say about the fight for trans rights? You think that is more popular than being against genocide? And if people are ok with genocide what do you think they will accept, when the reps come for trans people as they do? Both transrights and being against genocide are non negotiable! It is a fundamental moral issue to stand up for them!

Matt sounded like he’s getting so much better on this episode. Happy for him

Hardcore Virgin

How similar is this moment to the sectional compromise/ gag rule moment, which saw the republicans form in response to the doughfsced whigs? There’s definitely some analogues. Has anyone made this argument? Or am I just way off base? (This is In response to the contrapoints part. Their argument is very much the Whig argument. It won’t help us politically so we shouldn’t even talk about or mention the horrors of slavery)

Michael S. Judge

That was before I worked for the Democratic Party Israel Extortion Directorate

Dee Rubes

She was asked about Israel/Palestine and made a post about Jewish (meaning zionist) feelings, left-wing anti-semitism (meaning zionist delusions), and political feasibility (meaning electing Democrats). The function is just the latest lib tactic to sideline the Palestinians: acknowledge the genocide, say it is bad, but quickly move on to center zionist delusions and re-electing Democrats. Not surprising that she was immediately applauded by Ethan Klein who has been pulling this exact shtick for months.

SF

Nah the Will Stancil thing was funny

I momentarily levitated when Matt dropped "the alchemy, the rapturous process of turning cognitive dissonance into cacophonous harmony" 🙌

thicchatlogan

it's awesome to see people like contrapoints and thom yorke etc who spend years cultivating the image of someone sympathetic to revolutionary politics get this annoyed simply because people expect them to care about something it would make perfect sense for them to care about based on the lane they choose to occupy. even if you really don't care, just say the genocide is bad and move on! read the room! know your audience!

Žiga Iglič

Liberals love to talk about "moral duty" and "centering voices", but as soon as they believe this same argument will hurt the Democrats at the polls, they suddenly don't care about it. And they will even openly say that they are ignoring their supposed principles for the reason of helping the Democrats in elections, like Natalie does here.

🙏Oklahoma and David Payne mentioned 🙏 I’m a meteorologist here (though not directly NOAA/NWS related) and I’d love to see a bonus ep on the austerity affecting NOAA/NWS, because the local forecast offices in Texas that forecasted the floods (San Angelo, Austin/San Antonio) currently have vacant management positions (https://www.weather.gov/media/nws/wcm-soo.pdf). The staff that forecasted the events did an incredible job, but without management staff to coordinate with local EM (to the extent that local EM even exists in areas like Kerr County) the warnings aren’t going to get to the people who need them, and so you get things like what happened with the floods and with the Kentucky tornadoes back in the spring. So whether or not climate change is exacerbating disasters is kind of a moot point when austerity is a far more dangerous and deadly culprit on an individual event level.

Marxist-Swoletarianist

It’s tricky since talking to the media is pretty tightly regulated, but if they could find an NWS employee who got laid off or forced into retirement from DOGE cuts, they could probably talk about the behind the scenes stuff more candidly.

Is the implication that MLK was not of left?? Are we talking about a different MLK?

bobbyboy32059

No the implication is Natalie and her "left-liberal" ilk are forgetting that the MLK branded comrpomise left theyve been bitching about was the alternative to either fascism or a country which revolts every 50 years. She is the white liberal moderate the model minority activist of liberalism was warning people about. And tbh as a white queer, that's fucking most of us.

Natalie

I forgot contrapoints has a real name and got confused when Felix just said "Natalie" cause that's me

Natalie

"Putting the messaging cart before the policy horse" great line from Kath lol

Justin

Whether it’s Natalie or Thom Yorke or Tarantino or any number of nice “progressive” America who have been silent or supportive of this—the challenge for them is that if they face the reality of this head on, then a number of very close people in their lives are supportive of a genocide, are literal Nazis. This is psychological catastrophic if you value your progressivism but don’t want to implode your social network, so the only answer is to deny. In a way, I sympathize, but for fucks sake sack up.

Daniel Ponciano Diaz

I have thought about this, and it is my dream that the democrat party collapses and gives way to an actual progressive party, but I still see the democrat establishment clinging on to power.

Contrapoints has been on a free fall into neolib bullshit for years. But this woe is me shit after 2 years of genocide is specially annoying. Just give your socials to a manager and log off if you can't take the progressive audience you farmed for more than a decade, you don't have to read mean or pushy tweets when you are at that level. Just do a video every 2 years, we are already expecting people with platforms to say nothing about this matter. No one needed to read this load of intellectualoid manure.

The biggest tell from Rogan during the Kash interview: Joe was under the impression that it had only been a little over a year since Epstein killing himself. Allowing him to hold the false narrative that the Epstein coverup was solely a Clinton operation.

Noam Chomsky sought Epstein out in 2018 for a financial matter. “My late wife Carol and I were married for 60 years. We never bothered with financial details. She had a long debilitating illness when we paid no attention at all to such matters. Several years after her death, I had to sort some things out. I asked Epstein for advice. There were no financial transactions except from one account of mine to another.” #SUSS

Bronagh M

Thom Yorke recently wrote a similarly self-centred and snivelling diatribe in which he said peer pressure to speak out had taken a toll on his mental health. A chara, that’s not your mental health that’s your conscience. You feel guilty because your position is untenable, you cannot hold the moral high ground because you value your comfort more than your morality. Deep in their souls they know they wish the Palestinians would just cease existing and they could go back to hectoring the masses about left wing antisemitism with no complications.

I'm recalling Contrapoints kinda shitty video on Conspiracies. So her take of Jeffery isn't surprising. It kind of reminds me of when I found a video from The Quartering and I was like "hey dude, all your viewers seem super racist, you may want address that." I didn't realize we actually just fundamentally disagreed about reality.

Watermane

folks, sometimes I just like to read all comments under an episode, like with this one

Doug Cartel

Correction: Israeli AND American soldiers are murdering starving people.

Hmm...you mean IDPol rhetoric is not actually an indication structural radicalism, but rather a safe allowed rebelliousness on the fringes of capitalist societies that never fundamental confronts the issues of empire and capital. Crazy. It's almost as if we should have learned this from all the other minority groups that have been assimilated into the imperial death machine.

My friend used to repeatedly try to get me to watch her videos and all I remember is she plays some sort of "tankie"-esque character that would say the correct take on something, then she comes in as herself to debunk why it's cringe and crazy to think like that or something? and I just sat there like...what is going on

I like Mark Ames' take that Trump fans actually think this is just a demonstration that contra the MSM Trump is actually a pretty careful and measured centrist-right operator. Tariffs spooked the market? Fine, he's backing out and going back to the table; Chamber of Commerce is not happy about ICE, that's fine, we'll give them a carveout, everything's okay. the Epstein stuff was just an micro-obsession by online losers who don't really matter anyways. I think we’re onto the same point, more or less, but I think it’s more cowardice than stupidity—and less about group cohesion and more about the liberal fear of being interpersonally confrontational

Chapo Bath House

It's always nice to hear from Matt. I listened to an older Chapo episode where he does his Clay Higgens impression, and it reminded me of a family friend. He suffered a stroke and for years had to speak in a cartoonishly fake Quebecois accent, as his aphasia was worse with his regular voice. As much as I love Cajun Matt, I'm happy for him and family that he sounds more like Dr Prof Rev Cush every time

Michael Rosen

Honestly hearing Matt interrupt Felix/Will was very reassuring

David Winn

Did Donald Rumsfeld constantly ask himself questions to immediately answer? Yes. Did he do it so much that I can only think of him when someone does it? Of course. Is it an extraordinarily annoying rhetorical technique? Definitely

Chapo Bath House

I've basically disavowed everything from my social psych BA, but I've been thinking about terror management theory a lot over the last 10 years. We have given up on the state, or even society, as anything but an administration of punishment. Or status is stake, the continuance of life on earth is a lost cause; and the punishment of a shifting outgroup is the only way to cope. It's a psychic balm, bordering between biblical literalism and a spreadsheet brained secular Calvinism. There is a shared delusion under austerity regimes that punishment is fungible. That we can transfer our pain and misery onto people, who we know deep down have no responsibility for our misfortune, and somehow this will make us whole

MKatieUltra

I don’t even think “zero Palestinians have been saved” is true, people donating to families through Olive Branch etc who wanted to evacuate probably did save a small amount; or when ppl are able to get money through so they can buy food that’s super expensive. There could even be instances when having a donated eSIM and a working phone saved someone’s life. It’s not enough but it’s not nothing

Chapo Bath House

Saying I care about genocide, but we shouldn’t talk about it because I think talking about it got Trump elected, is just a long winded way of saying I don’t really care about genocide. I guess the name is Contrapoints. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Its ok if doing genocide (and "the online left's reaction) hurt kamala's chances of winning because she and every other bourgeois politician is an enemy of humankind. We have to split from and struggle against our enemies.

Kamala Harris ran the worst campaign imaginable. She cemented her brand as being woke and progressive when she ran for president the 1st time, then ran to the right of Joe Biden against Trump. What is the episode where they talk about the Airbnb situation?

Squeet Deedle

The absolute most repulsive thing about the horror/gore porn argument she's basically making about people sharing videos and images from Gaza is that if you apply that framework to the Palestinian people who post those videos as the original source, she'd probably back off and say that of course they have the right to post the videos. Apparently they're just supposed to post them into an infinite void, and anyone who responds or amplifies them and their cries for help is just doing cringey ragebait.

I am not going to go through all the comments to see if this has already been said. But, at the 1 hour mark Kath says the people who excuse death are more retarded than ever and Matt says Texans love dying. One of my more retarded relatives posted an AI image on Facebook of the Texas summer camp girls being hugged by Jesus in Heaven. I felt so blackpilled when I saw that.

Glad they addressed the ContraPoints stuff. Don't know why there's a propensity for online leftist figures turning into totally self-absorbed, morally compromised whiners, but I'm glad the Chapo hosts haven't gotten there yet ❤️

The Awful Orangeness of the Whale, by Matt Christman Behold, a great continent of pure flatness, thrumming with potential, bound by sickly weight of one. Accurate accusations melting the pot. I sought to make sense and take a breath, to see the watery part of the world. The SS Pequod, the whaler ship cum cruise ship, piling up refugees in a foreign land. The ship broke out of its waves, defiant of his will, a self appointed captain of my soul. The dreaded weight is pulling, set course to Pacific Garbage patch. The helm is locked, gravity pulls to oblivion. They charge the deck to exact answers and barring that, payback. There's got to be a better way. They brandished Ron Popeil's pocket harpoon and descend into the maelstrom looking to stab at thee, but the heart is stored in the cloud. They find themselves trapped in alligator Alcatraz, a labyrinth designed by an invisible hand. Lost in vengeance, but see no Judas goat, no altar. And with fresh victims, they tore off the blubber to fuel the fires for hate's sake. The falconer is frantically texting. They answer: new phone, who dis? All around the maze, they stop to take in the grisly narrative. The alchemy, the rapturous process of turning cognative dissonance into cacophonous harmony. A tableau of American carnage, boy scouts crucified into the shape of Q. Maddened by the dire beeping, the GPS, they tore it out. They reached to strike the sun, but missed. The blinking warned them, so they stabbed it out, firing Sagat to the hilt. Stirring the brain in an ecstasy of ignorance, stowed in the bulkhead, have blessedly sunk to spare themselves the prattling of the whale. "Very unfair, very unfair, very unfair", and reconvened at Davy Jones' outhouse. I float to computer, I search for steady ground, but see only evening redness till humanoid voices wake us and we drown.

Damian Golfinopoulos

Looking forward to owning the eventual Christman fancy poem anthology

It has been so fucking insane to watch in real time as "Stop standing on top of the bodies of the victims of this tragedy!" has gone from the response to the question of "How did the shooter get the gun they committed the mass shooting with?" to the response to "Why did it take 3 days for search and rescue to be deployed to a state with an ongoing natural disaster going on?"

Joan Didion wrote an essay about this in 1992, it’s called Eye on the Prize. From the first paragraph: At Madison Square Garden in New York from July 13 until the balloons fell on the evening of July 16, four days devoted to heralding the perfected “centrism” of the Democratic Party, no hint of what had once been that party’s nominal constituency was allowed to penetrate prime time, nor was any suggestion of what had once been that party’s tacit role, that of assimilating immigration and franchising the economically disenfranchised, or what used to be called “coopting” discontent.

Felix hits bullseye at around 21:00. One reason everything feels so high stakes all of the time is that absolutely everyone knows that the Democrats will never undo any terrible thing that Trump does. Stupidity is usually a defense mechanism. Fear is a trigger, cowardice makes fear common. It is stupidity because they literally do not understand why they are wrong and that is intentional. There is lack of intelligence that limits the speed a logical path can be traversed and understood. There is ignorance in traversing the wrong logical path without knowledge of the correct one. Most commonly there is bias, which means a person will not only not finish traversing the correct logical path, the more intelligent they are the more paths they can generate to avoid ever finishing going down the correct one. Literally look at reddit, it is built to demonstrate this.

protob1

Can you explain what the game plan is with cutting NOAA and NWS? Like, don't companies that generate their own weather predictions still ultimately rely on infrastructure from NWS? So is the expectation to leave the infrastructure and somehow get meteorologists to privately organize the data into meaningful weather products that can be sold? I don't really understand who is meant to profit by these cuts.

Marxist-Swoletarianist

You’re correct in that private weather companies ultimately depend on NOAA and other public infrastructure, but the endgame seems to be to shut much of this public infrastructure down via budget cuts and then have private interests attempt to fill those gaps. The biggest example of this is Elon with satellites, but the name most associated with NWS privatization is Accuweather founder and CEO Joel Myers. He contributed heavily to Rick Santorum’s campaigns when he was a senator (Accuweather is HQ in Pennsylvania) and Santorum attempted to introduce privatization legislation all the way back in 2005. It was universally unpopular since NOAA is about one of the few government agencies with an overwhelmingly positive approval rating. The other endgame that is more acutely felt is the staffing shortages that are unable to be remedied due to the severe underfunding of NWS in general. It’s been an issue for years but the DOGE layoffs and forced retirements plus hiring freezes lost the agency thousands of employees with countless years of invaluable experience that likely won’t be made up for. This has a more direct negative impact on forecast quality and overall morale, and gives the right wing more ammunition to justify gutting NOAA/NWS. Decades of profitability crisis after the first crack at privatization, it’s approaching the point where even universally popular public institutions that exist entirely due to decades of public buy-in aren’t safe. When people say they’re stripping the copper wiring out of the house, this is what they mean.

Vivian Irby

Thank you. I question the motives of people saying this, I think most of them actually WANT more genocide and it's just a way to say "shut up, pussies". Abubaker Abed is a Palestinian who because he loves soccer learned to speak English in a Brit sportscaster's accent, regular guest on the Electronic Intifada. He was on the same Zionist Extermination list as Refaat Al Areer. He escaped to Ireland and is now not in danger of starvation or extermination. Efforts make progress, even if small. The learned helplessness of "we can't do anything" is beyond a cop-out, IT is actual genocide-enabling.

As Matt sounds better and better, his audio gets worse and worse, nature is healing

parker

Isn't it a bunch of right wingers who did it

George P

What's so wild about Dasha now downplaying Epstein is she had a friend who was an Epstein victim! Dasha was on a very early TrueAnon episode talking about supporting her friend through Epstein's arrest and subsequent death, and to now turn around and say it's time to move on is some real sicko behavior, even by her standards.

parker

While I don't agree with the use of a word of a ritual to describe a black mail suicide pact between rich people I don't see how you aren't a peasant if you think Epstein was a financial fixer. He was stupid as shit lol. That's literally one of the most common aspects of the case is he was incredibly dumb but had powerful friends and people willing to protect him. If I had to guess the 200 million is probably ransom money for a video of Leon black doing unspeakable things lol. I mean that's just obvious on the face of it.

parker

His Ukraine takes still drive me crazy lmao Dude legit lost his mind and decided being a dumbass was the only solution to russiagate existing and his cancelling

brodie

Matt truly sees further than us now. (also sounds better and better every time we hear from him)

Vivian Irby

Okay well me too and I'm not

Vivian Irby

So I can't be mad at the hosts of the show I pay to listen being homophobic because they're discussing even worse people? That's fucking stupid, brother.

Westerday

It’s ok to voice your concern. It’s also ok for other people to tell you you’re overreacting. I think you’ll be ok, Viv.

BeeksElectric

Stallman’s always been a jerk so he’s had it coming for a while

Oliver Elliott

The reason they gave Epstein so much money is really want I want to know, not the “client list.” As you say, being an underage girl pimp doesn’t warrant nine figures no matter how discrete you are about it. (And he wasn’t even very discrete!) It does seem like some people are just pied pipers for rich people. If you’re familiar with the 1MDB scandal, Jho Low is kind of a similar figure. Why is this guy getting a huge cut? I guess just friends with the right people ultimately.

parker

Tbf I could totally believe since he actually did explain how many times he was there. And that was Epsteins cover story. Even if it was horse shit lol . Obviously Noam shouldn't have gone to a convicted pedophile but still lol. But he's not bill Gates or Leon black who probably have a private investigator look into anyone they meet lmao.

David Whittinghill

Will, please don’t apologize for opening with Gaza. Chapo is one of the few places out there that keeps us informed and shares our rage and frustration. If you’re going to apologize for something, apologize for talking about rappers most of us have never heard of, MMA, or, like, Bolsonaro’s impacted bowels or whatever. Marxist-flavored outrage episodes are always better than the goofy ones.

ab

In what world is Vivian “overreacting”?

Woke Batou

Idk, he waits several years until after his wife dies to try to access this money and then turns to Epstein for help? You're telling me an academic like him didn't know Charles Schwab exists? He didn't have a friend who knew about money? Or Epstein? In 2018? Suss

I keep saying the only thing stopping chapo from evangelizing people brainwashed for their entire life is them not saying gay and retard, but no one listens

I’ll never stop plugging the absolute greatest literary take down of all time, “Joan didion: only disconnect” by Barbara Harrison. I could never put my finger on exactly why her bourgeois anxieties felt shallow to me but Barb nails it.

David, several “personally,” and “in my opinion,”s are missing from your comment

Dee Rubes

She always shied away from pinning down her beliefs, which kept her audience wide. Her statement clarified that she is not a leftist, which splits her audience—and that is probably why she was loathe to write it.

Dee Rubes

Do you mind expanding on your critique of the conspiracy video? I liked it but Im ripe for hot takes

Two "belied by" uses in one episode 🙏🙏🙏

I feel like if you met him ONCE prior to his Florida charges you're ok. After that surely you know what he's about.

Chapo please verify this.

The masses have spoken. Hey wait a minute. Why should we listen to you? You're re-...homosexual.

Big appreciation for the Crowded House drop ❤️

I was saying boo-lania

I can get using these words sparingly in times of full deadpan sarcasm but they using them too frequently and should control it

Hey Will, I just wanted to let you know that the concept of "There is No Such Thing as a Natural Disaster" is a social science theory that arose following Hurricane Katrina as a critique of capitalism more than anything else. Here is an article on the topic from the Social Science Research Council: https://items.ssrc.org/understanding-katrina/theres-no-such-thing-as-a-natural-disaster/ I read a book with the same title for an undergrad sociology course on Disaster & Society (https://www.amazon.com/There-Such-Thing-Natural-Disaster/dp/0415954878), where we studied historical disasters ranging from the Buffalo Creek flood in West Virginia, the bombing of Hiroshima, the 1995 Chicago Heat Wave, and, of course, Hurricane Katrina. The concept of there being no such thing as a natural disaster is rooted in the principle that these events are preventable, and more often than not, the "disaster," which is defined as a state of societal unrest following a catastrophic event, is due to a market failure spurred by the capitalist system. I.e., in the Buffalo Creek flood, the mining company knew that the well had issues for many years before the flood, and it even "passed" inspection shortly beforehand. However, Buffalo Creek was different than other mining communities in WV because they never unionized, so the safety standards and worker protections brought on by labor unions did not exist, leading to the disaster. It's basically like this: disasters are detectable and potentially preventable, but that requires government investment in infrastructure/institutions to accomplish disaster prevention. Instead, profit is king in America, so corners are cut, and the corporations/powers that be like to ascribe societal failure to "natural" disaster, when these events are anything but natural.

This makes me think about how last year, a YouTuber I listen to brought up how QAnon in particular stands out for how their conspiracy "theories" are just literal interpretations of flowery Leftist metaphors; where Marx metaphorically compares Capitalism to a vampire, Q-heads literally think deep state elites drain life force from children to stay youthful. And in your case, where Leftists say "There is No Such Thing as a Natural Disaster" as a provocative, eye-catching statement, conspiracy theorists will say it because they literally think weather is artificially controlled. All this also reminds me of that saying of "Fascism is the Socialism of fools". I guess these movements that gravitate around conspiracy theories are the 21st century Socialism of fools.

Look up Veiled Prophet Parade and Ball St. Louis. You're fucking dumb because you think a ritual means they are doing magic or some bullshit. No. They do weird rituals to both signify their allegiance to one another and also to because they probably started off doing it ironically and it became more serious over time. Look at the weird names of the KKK hierarchy. Can KKK members actually do wizard magic? No, but they call themselves weird shit like that because the right loves shitty little jokes like that. Also, they do infuse themselves with the blood of younger people, that is a real procedure Bryan Johnson was doing for a while. Dudes are building temples on their own islands(as documented on fucking video searching Epstein's Island). You're a muppet.

Sammy Sneed

Surprised they didn't link this to the SVU episode they did, using the pedophile to catch the final boss pedophile

Ghordo

Sadly I don't remember which video it was from, and it was a passing mention in another topic, but the channel is VarnVlog and it was one of his videos with a guest. Your best shot at finding it would be looking up his videos where he talks about the Right with other people.

this was so classic Chapo. i loved it so much. just missing Amber’s voice! the only time i hear about that contra points is when she comes out with a new right wing position. thank you for ripping her to shreds. may she soon be forced to the front of the crowd of aid seekers at a gaza humanitarian fund distribution 🙏

So Kathrine brought up the draconian immigration policy that Kamala brought up due to polling. So I actually have a leftist friend who did polling for the Kamala campaign in Illinois/Wisconsin/Michigan. He did this because it basically was free access to talk to voters and see what's on people's minds. It's honestly even worse than how Kathrine suggested. So on the poll of issues, there was absolutely nothing related to Palestine/Israel, despite it being the hot topic especially during the election. People he talked to did bring it up a lot, most expressing concern over the genocide. However, since there was no option to put down Palestine/Israel, they were forced to mark it as Foreign Affairs. Which my friend is heavily convinced is where Kamala's campaign out of nowhere came up with the immigration talking point/policy despite nobody on the democrat/left side giving a shit. Thought it would be interesting to bring up

Chapo Bath House

Does anyone else remember Kamala's attempt to win back Arab Americans? Not stopping the genocide, but by making a census designated category for people to accurately identify themselves. I can see how a technocrat like her would think this is a genuine win (I'm also the weirdest woman at my job, doing the long form census when I lived at a punk house was a genuine delight for me), but you really think that this is a population who AT THIS POINT IN HISTORY, wants the US government to have an easier time keeping tabs on their numbers? Especially as you talk about cruel immigration policies in the same speech?

Chapo Bath House

Not to mention that checking a new box on every census form is the height of humour for Middle Eastern uncles. You want to take that away from people?

I remeber arguing with this normie right winger on Facebook back in 2014. And I was like “right wingers believe all kinds of stupid shit like Obama birtherism and that the Dems are trying to institute gay communism.” And he was like “that’s ridiculous, those are all fringe beliefs you see online, no one really believes that.” Ignoring the fact that all those people were boomers i.e. The only people who vote, and then not even two years later a Birther candidate (Trump) got elected. Now 11 years later conspriacies are rampant.
