Oh brother THIS STINKS. Not our episode, don't tell people I said the episode is bad. Lost dares you not to vaporize your TV with a SAN 511 anti material rifle. This is a TV show that asks the question, "what if we had 5 hours of stuff and went on for like 2 decades." I singlehandedly blame this show for the subprime mortgage crisis and American malaise.

Lost will be vindicated by history

I waited until Lost was over before I got into it, because I knew the lore bullshit wasn’t going anywhere and didn’t want to get sucked into it. So I was mostly just watching it episode by episode where it’s mostly these little character portraits, some of which could be pretty endearing. I still love that Cheech Marin shows up in the later seasons as Hurley’s absentee dad and there are absolutely no complications from that whatsoever. He’s just a cool dude who lives in his basement, and everyone is happy to see him

I only started watching Lost recently and no, this show is brilliant. It doesn't make sense because it's not made to make sense.

The feeble mind cannot comprehend Lost’s nuance and meaning, and eventually Lost will be vindicated.

My wife and I watched the first four-ish seasons of Lost during COVID before we realized how fucking stupid it was, but given how recent that was i am genuinely shocked by how little of the plot I remember lmao. When Felix was summarizing it I was genuinely like HUH?!?! Man what a dumb show

MisterFunTown

The famous adage of story telling is to show dont tell. Lost was brave enough to neither show nor tell, but to ball.

Savannakhet

The Leftovers was a much better day show.

Mark Schneider

By being less crappy than the US's future?

Mark Schneider

To their point that there were no good series during the Bush Jr. years, I rebut with "My Name is Earl." Rednecks v. karma, political and thought-provoking!

David Browm

Missed opportunity in lost to have a character named Carol Marx and just have she and Bakunin yell at each other across the island

Lurb Cheboygan

JJ Abrahams is the worst director. Full stop.

Chapo Bath House

I liked the way Lost would introduce an enigma, distract you with something else, and expect you to just forget about it. I watched it back when I still smoked wheat and I fell for that shit every time

Tea for the Tillerman

Doing a rewatch now and struck by the amount of pan-Asian (and also Latino?) tropes they foist onto Sun and Jin. They have a sharpei and their leitmotif is a hushed koto and also DDK is yakuza but then they live in a Joseon dynasty palace where the women staff have Chinese chopsticks in hair.

LEAH NELSON

Matt almost breaking out his “square the circle” tagline but catching himself haha

Jonathon Collins

Can someone clarify the Spielberg conspiracy stuff that Felix alludes to? Interested in reading up on that.

Craig

In many ways, the Star Wars sequel trilogy is the film equivalent of lost. They had no idea what it was going to be about, nor where it was going.

Andrew Cross

Battlestar galactica was pretty good in a rewatch, it mostly stuck the landing

Chubby Justin

Lost is like if freaky Friday was meant to be taken seriously

etienne

missed opportunity to do a standalone Battlestar Galactica because the whole premise of that show is "what if 9/11 happened under President Hillary Clinton" and as a result the politics are absolutely batshit

etienne

what if Hilldog passed Liberal Patriot Act what if Hilly outlawed abortion liberally in order to 14 words against the cylons what if ending the war in Iraq resulted in Shariah law enacted on US homeland what if we kinda had it coming; actually

Biscuit

Thinking about how Trump 2 is like Lost because he’s telling us to forget about the Epstein storyline

A Loon

Yep, I watched the first season when it came out and then about 25% of episodes in the other seasons, and also listened to this episode on Sticher when it came out... And I was surprised when they described the mythology of the show. And I've already forgotten it again.

Henry

A lot of this is making me think of the similar aimlessness of Westworld. At least that had some cool actors.

Brandon Hamilton

Its really interesting how From is like a better Lost.

Eamon Short

Sorry Matt, but the Bush era is where like 2/3rds of the best shows made were running. Mid 2000s HBO had so many masterpieces airing in the same year its fucking insane. So I wouldn't call that era of TV "culturally bereft". And USA network was in its blue-sky period, while at the end of the bush era, FX was gearing up to become the GOAT of basic cable.
