When are we getting the episode on Alarum

Elai Kehler

movie ep about quite possibly the worst film ever made god fuck YES

Ombobo

I'm on a plane rn bored and this dropped poggers

Kyle Chouinard

Is there a razzie for least tasteful product placement?

MangoWorld🥭

Been anticipating this ep since I finished the movie a couple hours ago

JD Nonce

Goddamnit the title cut off in the notification and for a beautiful moment I thought it was the Chapo Trap House feat. Pod Save America episode I’ve been waiting for

Smalls

Tripod sucked the data out the slop

THEKILLERWHALE

When are you guys going to get Your Kickstarter Sucks on the pod? Those guys are true podcasters! And hilarious!

HamDrawn

We could only be so lucky to get a yks crossover

Meme_maid

Is this the first time ever mike and JF have been ahead of the curve?

William Evans

Donald Trump goes on an unhinged tirade about the Kennedy Center Honors - possibly one of the funniest things he’s ever said - and we get this.

Agent Grange

Now THIS is classic Chapo Slop. I already had a watch party on Discord with the boys scheduled so we could get the full experience. I truly believe that is the way this movie was meant to be seen, the same way The Hobbit was shot for shitty 60fps 3D IMAX.

j

Can’t wait for Orson Welles rendition of Osmosis Jones.

Travis

Felix begins speaking at 1 minute and 30 seconds

justdave

Damn, I thought this shit was real

Shiv

watched the trailer for this and it made me seasick and befuddled, LETS go

Ligma

You really should have had a zillennial woman on to talk about Rodrick since you're so ill informed on the topic

DD

Will he also sing the Kid Rock song about liking underage girls? 🤔🤔

Filius Fob

7:40 I think you can get that version of Windows at great expense from Unit 8200. I haven't seen this movie, but your description reminds me of Trump saying about the Tesla, "It's computer!"

Andrew Cross

Uh more like diarrhea of a wimpy kid

Cale

Laptop? Will…..

Mr Tu Damn Quoque

Thanks for the respite, fellas. Appreciated not having a head full of horror for 90 minutes

Throw Away

Will being the only one to laugh at Felix’s Sandra Bullock reference is pretty funny

Tim O'

Good news will keep

Tim O'

That would have to be some sort of Red Wedding situation

Science Bitch

Pod about list and they all sound like Joe List. That’s why they’re pros

Filius Fob

Totally agree... except I came away from this episode thinking, "If one of the largest-cap companies in the world can't make a self-propagandising movie for its streaming service on anything other than a shoestring budget, what does this say about the global economy?"

Mr Tu Damn Quoque

It says " let's crank up those contradictions and see what this baby can do!"

parker

I feel like if that happens America is in a civil war between the pedophiles and everyone else. Literally full scale drone warfare in the streets. Don't even think the podjohns are that bad just think it would have to be literally like 1918 In Russia for them to come into the pod

bruce

favorite things about this movie: -cube makes everyone call him Sir despite his job being Computer -the moment where the little mite bugs are crawling toward a SD card and he says “why they going after the chip?” -the fact that the aliens come to earth Because of the data despite the fact that…. the government is just compiling/storing this data, the data presumably already exists! why did it take this to trigger the invasion? i also love that he has a dropdown menu to order SWAT raids. also ice cube spends roughly 10 mins actually working and not stalking various people he knows

Mungo Franczak

The Spielberg WotW is one of my favorite guilty pleasure movies. So many fond memories watching bits and pieces of it as a kid with my dad, cause I was too scared to actually sit and watch the whole thing. The scene that always scared me the most, and still gives me the creeps today, is the scene of the trio of tripods cresting over a hill, while a completely unaware mass of people line up to board a ferry, and only notice it once it blares its horn. So fucking great.

Mungo Franczak

I did a 15-page paper on the book my senior year of high school so let me tell you, this movie is exactly Wells’ vision

Mungo Franczak

OOOOH I UNDERSTOOD THAT MICHAEL HASTINGS JOKE THANKS TO THE FORT BRAGG CARTEL BOOK!!!

bruce

i also don’t know if you guys clock this in the ep but this was produced by the guy who essentially created This Genre with Unfriended. russian kazakh guy, only type of brain that could make this. he also did abraham lincoln vampire hunter

Doug Cartel

In the abstract I think a movie that all takes place in one room is an interesting challenge to try to overcome to make a movie compelling (especially since WOTW was just a radio broadcast in its first adaptation) but in this case it was a total failure

Doug Cartel

They should have called the movie 'The Lives Of Others But The Stasi Are The Good Guys'

Anomalie

my uncle pulled this movie up on the pirate firestick and we watched for like 15 minutes until we realized this was all on Ice Cube's computer screen, and shut it off. Did they release in theaters? I'd walk out and demand a refund

Lord-Admiral of the Pyrenees

Because the book was all about how the Martians wanted to eat all the telegraph lines right? This was something that they totally failed to capture in the Orson Welles play and the Spielberg adaptation

bruce

GET OUTTA THERE DAVE. TURN LEFT AND KEEP GOIN. TURN RIGHT. GO GO GO

Ian Priest

This whole movie sounds like a Tracey sub-plot on 30-Rock

Chris T

Does black voice shortly thereafter

Zach Sampson

Most stationary actor of all time? Put some respect on Steven Seagull's name

Dave

This episode supports my view that it's much more fun to talk about this film than it is to actually watch lol. I found it fairly excruciating to look at.

Doug Cartel

The tom cruise version of this was also about a dad staring and gawking at horrible sights but he was touching grass

Carlo Reyna

Wasn’t this story a couple two tree Futurama episodes?

Lord-Admiral of the Pyrenees

Yeah but that one took too many liberties with the source material and missed the whole original point of the book about the data being key

Henry

The world is full of horror but if your head is constantly full of it as well then you should consider antipsychotics

b-rar

So check your motherfuckin CD-ROM, and your World Wide Web dot com - Ice Cube, "Ask About Me," 1998

b-rar

Don't act like this man wasn't at the vanguard of computing technology

b-rar

The last 25 years of Denzel Washington's career would like a word

Mr Tu Damn Quoque

That's a very kind hearted observation. Thank you.

Maxwell Harkness

this feels like a movie made solely to be talked about on podcasts.

Alex White

The seeking derangment crossover episodes recently have been a bit too stupid for me, while the PAL ones are just the right amount of stupid IMO. Fun times

Dick Waglin

Don't know what a rabbit virus is? Watch Hackers you fycking jabronis

Jackson

The PAL guys have been doing their show on YouTube too long they forgot we can't see them when they say "and the guy looked like this:"

Jackson

That's why you watch with friends and talk over it

Jackson

For what it's worth I don't think it happened from Amazon wanting to redo WOTW and deciding to do it this way, but from it being pitched this way. One of the producers has weirdly done like several of these computer screen movies so I'm guessing this idea started with him

Jackson

He already said Felix begins speaking

danny

wow a freddiew reference in chapo what a blast from the past

Alex Weber

They should’ve just gotten Ludacris to play the Ice Cube part instead

Dave

Fair enough

Huge Logo

Me: do I really wanna listen to another movie episode? 10 minutes in: Another banger boys. Bravo 👏

Corey

DELTARUNE MENTIONED

Tommy U

felix mispronouncing patreon is hilarious

Chapo Bath House

We're all living in Tracey's world. Can you imagine if Eric Adams was mayor when that show was still on?

Matthew

At this point when I see Cube in a production I mostly just think about how stoked I am for Den of Thieves 3 🔥 And throw on the Featuring ... Ice Cube compilation, of course 🎤

Jon Beans

Michael and Us reviewed this movie already and made a similar sapiosexual joke.

gaylord

Best movie episode since the Wolf Warrior one👍

Dick Warlock

When I heard it was called the "Goliath Program" I immediately went to look up Ice Cube's hacker son's name in the movie and yes.... It's David. lol

Jack

Pontypool is a solid example of that conceit done well, I think

Cy Parker

Bio Mountain sounds like a cool game tho

K H

The aliens came to earth because it was promised to them 3 million years ago. They were exiled. Oh wait that's just the plot or Stargate. Also 100% you would see #releasethefiles or #distraction in an unedited feed of posting. I know because I would be doing it.

Axel

Loved the young vs old reaction when the boys said that’s Rodrick and Will and Felix are like, who???

Tom Thumb

Chuck Shumer was in this movie at his own insistence. He feels strongly that Joe and Eileen Bailey would not countenance the Goliath program without some targeted means testing for which aliens are data-eligible.

Laura

I'm not very far into this review, but it sounds like somebody decided Enemy of the State would be better if the bad guys were the good guys and added in aliens too for some reason

Bobby Lasers

This would have slapped as a late 90s John woo action movie with the same cast.

T33ny

So Ice Cube just did what Senator Slotkin did as a cia analysis....sit at a computer and eat hot dogs

Meowzedong

Good god they are molesting the data.

Dee Rubes

Shout out to The Net, the worst (most entertaining) representation of software ever made. “Devlin, it’s gonna eat through the mainframe! Do something!”

T

when is Amber coming back? Podcast is always mid without her.

Hardcore Virgin

And nobody went anywhere. Or really did anything.

DT

His dead wife was like "You WILL address me by my husband's Discord rank!"

Chapo Bath House

No one ever earned a billion dollars (unless all the money went directly to Ice Cube for the email movie)

DT

I heard that the aliens eat data and flashed back to I Think You Should Leave. "Data is their food! Computers are their burgers!"

Chapo Bath House

Jcvd frantically typing while doing the splits; the bad guys shoot lasers at him. He ducks, and the laser splits open a crate; releasing thousands of doves in slow motion

Ant koz

The Mnuch-ian elements of this film are undeniable … five bags of popcorn

Sydney

My husband and I have worked with Rich many times. Nice enough guy and easy to work with. We were extremely shocked to find out he made this movie. Makes all his money these days shooting music videos on those soundstages with curved LED screens that he owns (like how the Mandalorian is shot). I noticed the other day he's not posting anything about the film on his IG. At least he seems also ashamed of it LOL. The dude has so many VMAs and Grammys and shit. Why the fuck did he make this film. He must have made a secret fuck load of money with it.

Dave

They're your favourite podcast hosts

B

begging grok for a pirate software long-play of quantum planet rn

Chapo Bath House

I wonder if this would be a more effective piece of propaganda if it were a complicated portrait of the security state as good people who sometimes overstep their bounds; because, damnit! They care! And save the world! Or if it is more disarming because it's a bad movie where a goofy dad doesn't understand computers and has it written in his contract that he only has to stand up one time

Chapo Bath House

Like, the Zero Dark Thirty school of imperial propaganda is to ~make liberal audiences think~, vs the objectively more kick ass 80s reactionary action flicks determined to make sure you don't think

Richard Cochnar

The data is their money So are the worms They want another chance at life

Beev

I cried when CodeCrusher was killed. RIP CodeCrusher.

Percy Plump

The PAL boys are injecting some desperately needed vitality into the show, as a gen z baby I need to hear grampa Will and Felix getting confused by diary of a wimpy kid and deltarune

nick

If data is the aliens’ food, what is their mealtime like when they aren’t doing a planetary data-harvesting invasion? What does a light breakfast on a Tuesday look like for them? Sucking on a Tweet?

Sam

Everybody gotta get paid. Don’t hold it against him. Get that Amazon bag and don’t tell anyone you did it. Legend.

MCL

This movie makes more sense when you realize it’s part of the Friday Extended Universe and he’s actually Craig solving the mystery of who keeps stealing boxes on his day off (Sunday)

Soren Campbell

Can’t believe Will was the first person to reference eating poop in an episode with the PAL boys

Bobby Lasers

And everyone is driving tinted escalades for some reason

Matt Boi

The ending was one of the funniest lines to me. “Collecting data on everyone WITHOUT violating their privacy.” Do you hear yourself??? How would that be POSSIBLE

Back Flip Bet

Data is their wheat, they make it into bread pasta and cereal

nick

It was about the immense struggle of a Yankee dad trying to love his Red Sox son

nick

Russel Crowe

nick

Jules Verne would have loved Amazon Web Services

Mike Bess

This episode was so funny.

Lana Kay

26:08 Deltarune mentioned

Ham Stroker’s Jackula

Prequel scene: his wife is FaceTiming ice cube with tears in her eyes: “They say… they say it’s terminal.” Ice cube: “ah hell no!”

Brendan Kneeland

The sentence “we farted!” Really really made me laugh 😂

pulled a muscle yearning

You guys should actually have Freddie Wong on, he'd probably do it and they're doing feature films now. They've got one out, and he even uploaded it in high quality to file shares so Felix doesn't have to watch a cam rip. He's working on a second feature too.

pulled a muscle yearning

The funny thing about the data stuff, I listen to crank podcasts sometimes when I've listened to too many smart podcasts, and there is a theory that like data is somehow connected to energy so like the more we make datacenters the more the universe expands or some shit

Bloomin Onion

I hadn't heard of this movie until the pod and it inspired me to check it out. No words adequately describe how awful this movie actually looks

Kyle O’Connor

🚨WILLIAM MENAKER THINKS 116 MINUTES IS OVER TWO HOURS🚨

DP

Lazy episode. Well done.

Caleb

Random comment, coming to visit NYC for the first time in December. Any recommendation’s on areas to stay in from those who live there?

JD Nonce

Yeah I was joking

Biscuit

But only if it’s data that can be harvested by the NSA or Amazon

Biscuit

Amber is that you

Faib Dao

“In this house we believe data is food” 🤣

pdschmidty

I was at a workshop today and the speaker recommended a book by Rob Dreher. I laughed out loud.

Biscuit

Under a bridge

Sam McManus

They're stealing the purity vibes from playgrounds with pipe rocks

JLV90

Got thatvenuminum

Walking Bones

IM IN LOVE WITH CALEB FROM POD ABOUT LIST, AND IM NOT AFRAID TO SAY IT IN FRONT OF HIS BOYFRIEND PATRICK

Cedar J B Peters

awesome the boys got homer Simpson on the pod

Max

Dropping pirate software and SomeOrdinaryGamers drama references in one episode, is reaching new levels of slop fan service.

Carbisari

Being tossed into a meat grinder would be too good for you.

ian

wherever you can afford, idk. depends if you wanna explore a few specific neighborhoods or take transit to do touristy stuff in manhattan

ian

idk if this is still true, but i seem to recall that some places in midtown near times square are kinda cheap to stay in because no one wants to live with the 24/7 lights and noise? i forget though i'm from south brooklyn

Doom Hermit

Lots of things were shut down or on hold. Opportunity during the lockdowns to make some easy money and keep working.

JDF

Ok, Gordon Woodpecker

JDF

Autists rock

JDF

“They’re recording everything I say and they have tracking devices that can detect very slight changes in my bowel movements and the NSA has weaponized my mother’s dog (who has been granted top tier security clearance by order of FDA —deep cover cut out used by “inspectors” who install listening equipment in chicken eggs and meat “processing” facilities) and if you think about it, it’s highly “COINCIDENTAL” that Lord Cornwallis has 🌽 (soda lobby????) in his name??? 🚁

JDF

those bump stocks get delivered yet, buddy?

Mae

Deltarune and FNAF mentioned!

Jackson

Taking that at face value why would it even matter if the universe expands more. What's that do for us

Tea for the Tillerman

I sat staring mouth agape at a Mnuchin dollar bill the other day for like 10 mins

Bill

Here to give Will credit for "Money Pussy" as it seemed like that one got passed over in the hussle and bustle.

camel

does ice cube have the same agent as steven segal

Max

Ironically at this moment the USA would invade another country or planet for data, if it was possible, because all the tech companies did run out of data to make their shitty AI better.

Sean Riach

another entry in the Bad Dad cinematic universe

Ariamis4223

Always happy to see Movie Reviews on the pod <3

grymm

Ice Cube in his Bruce Willis Redbox arc.

royboy

Episode as boring as the movie 😮‍💨

Rio

PAL appearance makes up for the godawful Seeking Derangements episodes

Eric Markowitz

i feel like the rabbits virus is a reference to the movie hackers lol

Anya

The Net rules

GWAR-a-Lago

Not gonna see the movie, but when Will refers to the actress who was one of Selina's friends on Veep, I guess he means Andrea Savage, who not only played President Laura Montez on Veep, but is also the love interest in Tulsa King. I don't really have a point here, just an observation.

naomi

Wrong

Urdnot Wrex

Ice Cub could have better prep himself for this role if only he spend more time watching React channels on youtube and twitch clips

etienne

people who got famous for signing Cop Killer: - Ice Cube: played a police or intelligence officer on 17 thousand TV episodes and movies - John Maus: was hangin out with his best friend Ariel Pink when they accidentally entered the Capitol building along with thousands of jet ski dealership type people

Bushwald

Ice T did Cop Killer. Ice Cube did Fuck The Police.

etienne

ahh fuck I fucked it up. I blew it. I know nothing

VV0Sans

Will saying Ice Cube’s character reminds him of Chuck Berry was one of the funniest things I’ve heard all year.

sailor corellia

Hey now, but gentle to Freddy Wong. Dungeons & Daddies is delightful.

Reece Coren

Sandra Nasa reminded me of Mark Whalburgs friend burger from that movie where he becomes a fat preist

Reece Coren

proud member of the diary of a wimpy kid reader to chapo listener pipeline here

Tim Adams

Overheard two IT guys discuss this at work this morning. "Imagine something thats the worst thing possible. This is worse than that". 😂 eloquent and accurate

etienne

John Maus has good music yeah, I saw him live, he sang with just a CD player for backing tracks, did Cop Killer, it was pretty odd but quite good. It's just pretty funny that he sang *that* one song and then did the most meta-bootlicking thing imaginable
