As always these elections have a strong small d democratic mandate though ballot measures for a variety of progressive issues. The problem with them is the problem with everything in the bourgeoisie electoral system, rights are only rights until they aren’t. We don’t really have rights under capitalism and will only get it until it is overthrown and we establish socialism. We need a federated camp of various leftist parties, electoral or not, and run under a United ticket. We need to not really focus to much on elections. Instead just using it as a propaganda outlet. We need to get people out of the mindset of thinking of politics only every election. And we need people to realize both reps and Dems will not make things better.

A national public health system would also be more efficient, but we don't have that for the same reason that space exploration is being privatized and turned into a commercial market. e.g. we have a political and economic system that is driven by private profit, and public money is part of the feedback loop. There are a lot of things that can be said about Musk too, but his reputation isn't just based on hype. e.g. developing a reusable rocket is a genuine achievement and SpaceX has the edge over competitors. Of course, Musk didn't personally and solely invent the rocket, but he clearly must have an eye for engineering talent. Same story with Tesla. e.g. it established the market for an upmarket electric vehicles, it is ahead of competitors in terms of charging infrastructure. Of course these advantages may prove to be ephemeral, and Musk's diversion into owning a social media company, which is clearly out of his wheelhouse, may prove to be his undoing.

Yeah I'm probably just trying to rationalize listening to Chapo and absorbing other media like it as more than just slop. There's some truth to the fact that the vast majority of Americans are fully invested in a level of neuroticism and insanity. There aren't a lot of people that are unplugged from the matrix or wearing the sunglasses in "They Live." (Pick your movie metaphor). I have a lot of well intentioned people in my life but at it can be frustrating and I can feel insane that they can't see this whole thing for what it is. Listening to some of these episodes at least makes me feel like I'm not completely insane and that there are like-minded people out there.

I've been in a Ford F150 Lightning and I gotta say, I could see your average person who needs a truck buying one. With the shit build quality and reputation of Teslas I would uninvest before Ford does a full rollout or imports get in big on the market. Can't sell people who want a work vehicle a car that looks like an iPod, sorry. The only reason they haven't already is they're letting Tesla do the work of building out the infrastructure and test the waters, if Ford flipped their plants to full electric Tesla would be bankrupt in a year.

When it is 20 degrees and the road conditions are bad, Tesla would not be my first choice. If I'm driving on a winding mountain road and want to have car that has great handling, Tesla would also not be my first choice. If I want to zone out and read a book on a long trip, I might opt for the train. In fairness to GM and Ford too, it's not easy to be nimble when you are a mature business. Both still produce some very good luxury and high-end performance cars. Obviously Tesla has a big edge in terms of electric vehicles.

have seen a lot of this stuff first hand at my dumb office job and can confirm twitter is the smallest line on any digital marketing budget, and was only ever seen as a minor channel for 'brand' spend (shoving the brand in people's faces so they remember it) rather than 'performance' (actually driving direct conversions / sales). so it's incredibly easy for agencies and clients to just see everything falling apart and then say "easy, redirect this small line for twitter to literally any other channel". very unlikely most of these advertisers ever come back to twitter now lol

the problem with microservices is that the top dozen silicon valley companies kept putting out cool documentation and media fanfare about the cool microservices archictecture that they spent a million developer-hours on, with years of trial and error, and then you have mid-small companies who have no reason to, try to replicate this by containerizing their shit and trying to setup a totally hopeless autoscale gadget, when their effort should have been focused on making their codebase good and fast and easy. been there. being a small back-end dev team and having to deal with someone's half assed microarchitecture because they saw a google tech talk in 2011. is extremely annoying.

Thomas, we also had computers in the 1950s. It's not comparable to what we have today. There is a world of difference between prototypes and a lunar module, and the Falcon 9. The lunar module was revolutionary in its time. Today there are dozens of countries who could construct one, if they wanted to. The same is not true of the Falcon 9. You could not have built the rocket even 15 years ago without advances in software, computing, and new manufacturing processes. It is something new.

at the risk of being too nice to musk again, when the Model S dropped, the public perception of electric cars was terrible nerd-ass lead-acid battery shitboxes that GM tried and instantly gave up on, and then Al Gore made a movie about. the Model S was a great looking machine and it's fast and handles good.
