Trump's interventions definitely hurt the GOP in this cycle, but they didn't hurt nearly as much as the GOP-controlled Supreme Court overturning Roe. However, there was clearly a media campaign to boost Ron DeSatanic and blame Trump for anything bad that happened, that has been in the works for a while. Pompeo is another guy who I would watch -- he will have strong establishment backing, looks like he also is going to run, and is a much more sophisticated political operator than the Florida Guv. Not sure if he can actually win a national election, but he might be able to win a GOP presidential primary. The other factor I can't really figure out in terms of political implication is what kind of impact a legal prosecution of Trump is going to have on elections in the near-term.

Any GOP strategist or conservative who thinks that they can bury trump after 2022 is in for a rude awakening. It took them all of 5 years to forget that the reason they won 2016 had nothing to do with the Republican party itself. Nashvillian here. The state constitutional word changing about slavery is confusing. It prohibits slavery from ever being enforced in the state of TN again. Which is good. But I’ve heard other people say it was a just a rewording issue. Not sure why any of this is an issue if we have the 13th amendment in the US constitution. Just be safe I voted yes to changing it. The sad part? 20% of TN voters voted to keep slavery in the state constitution. 😔. The other sad part is that Congress might go the GOP bc Nashville and middle TN have been gerrymandered to hell. Nashville has been blue for a very long time up until this year. Very sad.

It’s definitely a rewording. The TN constitution had a “slavery banned except as punishment for crime” clause (like the US constitution). The exact text of the amendment just adopted is “slavery and involuntary servitude are forever prohibited. Nothing in this section shall prohibit an inmate from working when the inmate has been duly convicted of a crime.” So it just rephrased the statement but says the same thing.
