Greetings Grey Wolves,

It's a huge day for space-watchers as we are proud to announce three major new projects & updates to the Chapo Trap House Patreon.

The first is HELL ON EARTH, a new history series from Matt and Chris.

HELL ON EARTH: The Thirty Years War & The Violent Birth of Capitalism is a 10-episode miniseries that will launch on Jan. 11, 2023 here on the Chapo Patreon.

The show will tell the story of the Thirty Years War, the cataclysmic outbreak of violence in central Europe that lasted from 1618-1648. It’s the story of the long crisis of the 17th century, the birth of Protestantism and the collapse of Catholic Christendom, and ultimately, the gleaming T-800 Terminator skeleton of Capitalism emerging from the rotting corpse of Feudalism. It’s a story of gnarly violence from a bygone age, of hot death on the battlefield, and cool intrigue in the palaces of Kings and Emperors. But it’s also the story of climate change, financial collapse, moral panics, speculative bubbles, pandemic, crisis in institutional legitimacy, of conspiracy theories driving policy, and an information revolution that changes the way everyday people relate to their political leaders. Sound familiar? This is the birth of modernity.

We're very proud of this show, and for listeners to our Hell of Presidents series, it will follow a similar tone and style. For subscribers who didn't catch that series, it will follow many of the historical threads Matt's been pulling at for years, with the added structure and crisp production of your humble & dedicated producer.

You'll notice we just published a short preview ep of Chris and Matt chatting out the series, check that out for more info. One more time, Hell on Earth launches January 11th, available exclusively here on patreon.com/chapotraphouse.

ANNUAL MEMBERSHIPS

We're also excited to offer a new way to subscribe to the show through Annual Memberships. You will be able to subscribe directly to a full year of the Chapo Patreon for a 7% discount (that's basically one month free). BUT THAT'S NOT ALL: for the next week (11/17 - 11/24), you'll be able to subscribe at an additional ONE TIME ONLY discount of 12%, or $52.80 for a year of Chapo's Patreon. Starting now, and including all the bonus content we're planning, that will work out to less than $0.75 a Patreon ep, and probably less including all the material we hope to get out next year. A great deal, so hop on now. How? Here:

For existing patrons, the following steps will help you switch over your pledge to annual.

Log in, go to your Settings, then click on the "Active Memberships" tab

From your Active Memberships page, scroll down to Chapo Trap House and click Edit next to the pledge you want to change

Select the Annual option on the checkout page

Click the Update button. You’ll be charged upfront for the discounted price

For new patrons, visit our Patreon page, where you’ll have an annual option below your chosen tier’s “Join” button.

HINGE POINTS

Oh shit, here's a surprise: HINGE POINTS is back, starting immediately! As part of the bonus content you can get right now included in a new yearly membership, we're dropping a new 6-episode run of our beloved historical counterfactual series starting today. For the next six Thursdays, Matt and Danny Bessner will be gaming out such questions as "what if the English channel never filled in?" and "what if Napoleon converted to Islam?" and "what if Nixon actually won the 1960 election?" This series includes guests for every episode including fan-favorites Patrick Wyman, Everett Rummage & Noah Kulwin. The first ep should also be up now wherever you get Chapo.

Finally, because that's not enough, here's the amazing Dragon Ball Z animation parody our amazing cartoonist Ben Clarkson put together to intro our Fall Tour shows.

Hedvig

so excited for he'll on earth! heard about it though QAA and joined patreon only for this (but what more might I find?). as a big Queen christina fan and general materialist history fan I'm so excited

Mark

Hell yeah dude

Spencer

The intro was so great thank you for making it available!

j

Love it

Connor Green

Looking forward to Hinge Points. Would love a bit of a mashup, what if Nixon won in 1960, and also joined the Nation of Islam?

Seesaw_FW

Glad I can do my part boosting the numbers for the upcoming quarterly shareholders report, by subscribing annually.

Seesaw_FW

Given their mutual dedication to antisemitism, I could see this as a real possibility.

Jon W

Oink oink, Mr. Wade. Thank you for filling my trough.

Salid Tahsaar

Far to much conjecture for any coherence, and completely glazes over the ethno-linguistic factors going on. Also I’m gay.

Seesaw_FW

Very sorry for your loss.

Jcbsides

That intro was great, thanks for the updates!

Demented Avenger

Fuck, the 30 Years War? I've been hoping Radio War Nerd was going to do that one forever. Also, I'm totally gay but I love pussy and not dick.

Alexander Hill

Do you have to be a yearly subscriber for Hinge Points or can monthly subscribers access it as well?

PitMommy

Yearly subscriptions? Chapo rug pull imminent

Stop the Spread

We repping Mobb Deep now?! Good! Tired of the Gucci intro…

JV

why would you make the extra 12% discount only available for the week directly BEFORE payday for most of us regular white collar workers, and during a cost of living crisis no less, no way i'm gonna be able to afford it in time ;_;

Seesaw_FW

Felix needs his Oculus streaming set up TODAY!

Brendan Palangio

Very much looking forward to this and just want to recommend to Matt and Chris and everyone else if they haven't already read it, Grimmelshausen's "Simplicius Simplicissimus" a 17th century German novel (written by a veteran of the war) about a boy who grows up during the war eventually becoming a mercenary. It's sort of a German language Don Quixote or Rabelais' Gargantua and Pantagruel, very funny, quite scatalogical, incredibly dark.

Seb

Thank you daddy

vermouth

matt really puttin in the damn numbers

Scott

Blue collar boys get paid weekly, suck it losers!

Scott

RWN Episode 121 covered the Thirty Years War and if I remember correctly it was a great one

gilgachest

🚨🚨🚨 BONER ALERT 🚨🚨🚨

DANIEL WILL

Thanks for the treats! You guys are the gift that keeps on giving.

Yeah but in my defense

That’s one of the benefits of subscribing: you get great tips like this from other subscribers. Thanks.

Tyler Reed

Absolutely blessed content drop 🙏

Seri The Doll

How about a show without Matt :)

Michael Landreth

Goddamnit. Way to lighten my wallet and ensure I won’t do anything productive for the next two months. I’ll be saying yes to this entire grift. Thanks a lot fellas.

Major Powers

My god, so much slop and I’m such a hungry piggie.

Jessica S

Might be worth DMing Chris - or “M-ing” otherwise - to consider that point. Back when I worked an actual job, before parenting two young rugrats, I had no room for extras until the next payday, but it’s been enough years now that I didn’t think about that until your comment. :)

Warbs

We've got treats sign! *cue MST3k into*

John S

Switched to the annual subscription, though I'm worried that I'll lose out if the ICBMs start landing before the end of the year.

Canadian

Wish we could get Derek Davidson instead of Mr. Bessner, he's way better

Sierra Bangs

That was an amazing cartoon 😂😂😂

YukiNukem64x

I wouldn't know because I missed or skipped the DD eps mostly. Bessner is cool.

K102.1FM Mornings w/ Jonny Corndogs

Loved Hingepoints and I'm glad to see it coming back. Also, I'm gay? I-is that what we're doing now? I don't know anymore and my CIA handler refuses to take my calls.

Tom Mason

🐷🐷🐷 thank you boys

Jon Bon

Switched to annual, I hope this frontloading of cash props up the SlopCoin Exchange long enough to get the company Gulfstream back out of hock, godspeed boys

Joe

*Gasp!* How did you guys know that discount slop is my favorite holiday treat?

plainwrap

Get ready for 11 months of guest host episodes while the boys futz around LA trying to sell their inevitable screenplay.

dog stone

LeCush going hard in the mf paint

butt ass

wait, so do we only get access to hingepoints if we switch to annual?

butt ass

or does switching to annual just mean we get it all right now

TangiePower

I think you get everything regardless just the annual comes at a discounted rate.

chapotraphouse

all bonus series will be available to all subscribers, whether you do annual or monthly you'll get access to all premium episodes and all bonus series.

Jon

You guys should get Mike Duncan in on some hinge points or hell on earth bonus content! Matt's interview with him is one of my old favs.

Brendan Palangio

There's a relatively recent free translation out there if you want to read it now (https://books.google.ca/books?id=aD5kF6blxIkC&redir_esc=y), and there's also a 2018 Penguin Classics translation that's pretty good, but if you can get a hold of it, the 2008 Mike Mitchell translation is probably the best rendition in English, really grapples with the alternating high/low language shifts.

Pogzilla

Free Hell of Presidents and TFMS ✊🏻

John

1848, hell yeah man. Magic one.

butt ass

awesome, thanks! can't wait for the 30 years' war podcast. i still crack up about you and matt talking about george washington's death on hell of presidents every once in a while

Bill

Hell yeah easiest 50 bucks I've ever spent

northco

Is there any material difference between Grey Wolf and Grey Wolf Tax Dodge? (I haven’t looked at the tiers since I first subscribed and I might be overthinking this.)

Michael Landreth

Buy the annual membership, which has the tax dodge automatically built in, and will grant access to all the upcoming external pids like Hinge Points and Hell on Earth. But if you are paying monthly, there is no difference between the full $5 subscription and the Gray Wolf tax dodge subscription. So do the cheaper one.

northco

So if I subscribe annually I should do the normal Grey Wolf, but if I do monthly it’s ok to do the tax dodge?

Graham Trim

Adding that to my list. I'm in the middle of The Last Valley by J.B. Pick. Very good prose; feels like a blend of Waiting for Godot and Camu's the Plague. Excited to see the 1971 adaptation with Michael Caine and Omar Sharif.

Doodler

they found a way to get double-paid for November 2022

Zander Leaf Listens

I can't get access to any of the audios since July and I've been paying right along

Lesley Anne Noelle

This is the last time I ever got a Patreon episode, but I am still paying. WTF ?
