We’re back to regular coverage today with a look at the enjoyably dysfunctional quest of the GOP trying to elect a speaker of the house. Then, we discuss Bolsonaro in Orlando and OF COURSE, for the reading series we’ve got Rod Dreher’s revelation that his father was a damnable Freemason (oh, and also in the KKK).

CoatCheckDream

This has gotten a zero everywhere I've tried it so why not Chapo Patreon: "You can't even accuse right wingers of McCarthyism anymore without them thinking you mean subjecting themselves to repeated public humiliation" Already quit my day job and things are looking grim

Kentucky Shitlib

I did the first degree in the blue lodge. It was weird. I didn't go back.

john

finally! the damn News!

Matthew Black

Can’t believe the foolproof strategy of chaining your political ambitions to a guy who becomes suicidally depressed on a 60-day cycle could fail

T

The goddamn freaking news!

CoatCheckDream

Seems like a bargain! My dad was in Amway!

Arrick

Manatee maulings are no joke!

plainwrap

The GOP House, deadlocked and incapable, surrenders to the popular will of the only leader their lumpen base favorably agree upon in an event known to historians as 'The 18th Brumaire of John Dutton'.

DS

There's always OnlyFans.

Jacob

Kevin (Don't Have A Name)

Ben Zaretsky

This is a great episode. Only halfway through but not once have I had to hit my iPhone a la Homer and do the “be more funny” just kept it here always - wit and dark takes on humanity

Golander

YOUR SON IS DEAD is a bad thing to run around yelling as some friends of mine found out to their bruising

Alex

Rod does not miss

Max

Dear Patreon podcast, Another great episode boys, scary stuff about Biden trying to make himself emporer, I could definitely see that maniac doing it. Also thanks for turning me onto Rob Dreher. As a Catholic conservative thinker myself it's always good to find like minds to discuss today's issues with. If it weren't for role models like us how would these impressional young boys ever find the strength to make themselves attracted to women.

GOBBLESS BROHER

J.P. McD.

I bet at least half of you don’t get the Speakerboxxx pun

Kerri

Sir, I hate to bring this up again publicly but it's Mr. Chapo you mean to address!

Max

Sir, I would never address a drug dealer. My grandson assures me that The Patreon podcast is a Christian podcast and therefore has no place for Mexicans.

J.P. McD.

Yea but at first he also rhymed it with the second half

Derwood

great reference to Thomas' Partying w/ Tim Pool song.

Derwood

I paused and typed this before hearing it actually played. 10/10 episode for that alone. Thomas' acting performance at the Dallas live show was a tour de force, he's a true Texan renaissance man

Kinetics Video

He's building a robot that automates divorces. He can only be stopped by doing a car chase around a steel mill.

Ben Zaretsky

Okay the rod dreyer guy does anyone else hear Dr evil describing his childhood? “And there was a sweet wife killer at the prison who made us jelly cakes and told tales

Shimosanz (Brian Sanchez)

Very glad to hear Felix is playing Rising Revengeance. I can only pray he plays the Senator Armstrong boss fight on stream.

Paul F. Holzfäller

Please let this GOP shit show devolve into fisticuffs. How great would it be to watch Kevin repeatedly bash Matt Gaetz’s gigantic head onto one of those desks?

Jessica S

Mono = a month give or take; when I was 15, a week of that was the doctor thinking I had strep throat until lumps started appearing on my neck. Luckily for drivers within the range of my drivers ed school at the time, I only had one disastrous attempt of driving with the instructor before they landed on mono and quit until the next round of classes. The fatigue is no joke, lol. As for Rod, who knows what he’s talking about. Maybe he just needs any excuse for his depressive state besides his self-imposed misery. His dad was right about one thing, he’s weird indeed.

Equality State Of Mind

Chris, my music man, how you not gonna play this one out to "Kansas City Shuffle" by J Ralph? The Lucky Number Slevin heads in the audience have been aggrieved this day.

Khemith

If you had gotten 2nd degree you would have doubled your power. Fool!

Khemith

I respect Rod's dad far more than him. He damn well knew that race mixing leads to mocha and that's hot.

Eric Neal

As one of Chapo's 19 black patrons let me say, unequivocally, that Preacher hated Rod and every single one of those children. If he could have gotten away with poisoning those jelly cakes every time they demanded more sugar in their hot coffee, he would have. Also, that part about Rod's dad apologizing on his deathbed? Never happened.

BigBoto

great ep, but how did you guys miss We Need to Talk About Kevin starring Tilda Swinton

Ian Woods

I’m an actual Lucky Number Slevin head lol. Saw it when I was 16 and it had Lucy Liu and a twisty plot. Kevin could use a Kansas City Shuffle

Jingle Jangler

Nothing beats that motherfucking Yoshi drop in my ears in the morning

Sean

Great start to the new year, had me dying of laughter

E

Lol yall think think long covid isn't real? Fuck off cunts

Doug Cartel

Ke7in starring Kevin Spacey Nobody? Tough crowd haha

Doug Cartel

If Scalise ever did get to be speaker I would run for congress solely so I could make fun of him for getting shot in the asshole

Peter Annee

Anyone have a link to the Tim Poole song they played a clip of?

Ian H

I'm pretty sure all seafood is halal, and they for sure eat shrimp in like, Indonesia and Pakistan and crab and squid in Malaysia. As far as oysters go, the fact that most Muslim countries are in warm water maritime regions probably discourages bivalves for health reasons.

Demented Avenger

House Speaker vote meets Speed: they have to keep voting for Speaker or the Capitol building blows up.

Haven’t heard the name Chevelle in a minute

Evan Scott

Is he'll on earth gonna be in this feed or a separate one? I thought it was supposed to come out today

Evan Scott

Oh it's Jan 11. Don't know where I got today from.

Michael Branes

Bolsanaro was probably injecting the T with dirty needles in his thighs and got a staph infection

Tan Tan

fucking wild, i can’t believe i’ve never heard of this lmao.

Sam

I think it depends on the sect, and even then it is debated (like, apparently for Hanefis -a subsection of Sunni- it is not haram, but not advised.)

Michael Ouderkirk

Getting word they are now nominating Ezra Miller for Speaker of the House.

Angelo J Sibilio

If Rod converts to Islam my bet is he ends up as an MEK guy

MrMojoRisin

i loved lucky number slevin. i mean, not as much as smokin' aces but still

J.P. McD.

Jan 6th is on all of our minds friend ❤️

Have to disagree with Will on one thing; if anything, Ali Alexander has *too* much jaw

Bobi Jon-son Kenobi

I’m starting to think the one true freedom in America is the freedom to wallow in misery

AbeLinkin

They didn’t say that at all. They were surprised he hasn’t already ran with that one.

AbeLinkin

How did you miss it? It was one of the ones mentioned.

Boaz Corey

Degrees 4-32 are part of the Scottish Rite, an appendant body to Freemasonry. The 3rd degree of Master Mason is the highest degree of the "blue lodge" Masonry.

Paul Delaney

Rod is such a freak. I love it.

justdave

Mitt Romney will be the next president

james

I love eps where they talk about current political event

Marcus

I believe Forrest.

+1 for the choir at the end

Evan Scott

People really just make shit up whole cloth to get mad at lol

I think the 50s/60s incarnation of the Klan was far less anti-Catholic than the 20s incarnation. The 20s Klan was in many ways organized around anti-immigrant sentiment, and in this era that primarily meant Catholic and Jewish immigrants from Europe. In this respect Klan animosity to Catholicism absolutely was a thing, if not the primary drive behind Klan organization ("100% Americanism" was a big slogan as I recall) and the Klan was more of a national phenomenon. In contrast, the midcentury Klan was organized as a reaction against the Civil Rights Movement and the push for equality in the South. As such, it was primarily a Southern phenomenon, and was much more anti-Black than anti-Catholic.

Man this show is getting pretty lib. No mention of The Squad failing to do the same thing two years ago as the Freedom Caucus just did, but for literally any progressive demand, including Forcing the Vote for Medicare for All? This Speaker vote is a great time to be shitting on dems for not using the same leverage two years ago when they had the chance.

J P 3

It's not the same math. The "Squad" in 2021 was 4 members. The money behind the Squad is a bunch of small donors with zero institutional presence inside DC. Medicare for All is a policy that undercuts the funding of the party leadership. e.g. about one-third of the funding for the DCCC's campaigns in 2020 came from health care organizations that would be losers under a M4ALL system. On the other side of the equation in this contest is the "Freedom Caucus". There are groups like the Club for Growth, which have tens of millions of dollars of funding annually and deep institutional ties to the GOP that go back to 1999. It has significant influence with dozens of members in Congress. In a narrowly contested House, it has leverage. The fact that the party leadership on the Dem side was able to beat back progressive challengers in most of the safe Dem House races in 2022, underscores the math. Physicians for a National Health Program, which is the closest thing there is to a single-payer lobby pulls in an annual budget of less than $1 million. If you can't win the money war, and you lack the political organization to win a critical mass of primaries, where is the leverage? In the event that the "Squad" had tanked Pelosi's nomination, the bipartisan "Problem Solvers Caucus" (which has actual institutional power and funding) would have filled the void.

ggmacd

when i started working with people with disabilities and chronic illnesses my socialist convictions became about 1000% more real to me. I've encountered and had to manage a lot of people's weird "ableist" hangups, and my read on this particular case is that felix is probably just projecting some long-held and frequently re-lived neurotic embarrassment at having tried to use an ADHD diagnosis to get sympathy pussy or something.

Grimm

They're rich now, they're losing touch and as a result becoming boring and conventional

YukiNukem64x

It's kind of lib to give a shit about the squad in the first place, Kelsey.

AbeLinkin

Good take. That was the one thing I kinda raised my eyebrow at but I suppose they can’t be 100% right

AbeLinkin

Probably Liz Cheney

Jonathan Rose

Perhaps if you're only capable of surface-level analysis and reactionary thinking about someone supposedly being a "lib" or not.

Charlie

imagine writing a paragraph long response to a comedy podcast 🗿

Ian Woods

So you would have preferred a performative ‘fuck you’ vote with no impact on the outcome that further alienates them from a caucus that will already be difficult to work with? And folks wonder why the Left lose so damn often.

G. Gordon Litty

Yeah, the squad sucks, the force the vote shit would’ve been bad political strategy. Could’ve given a bunch of blue dogs the chance to appear more progressive by voting yes knowing it wouldn’t pass. The failures on the most recent railroad contract vote is way more egregious.

TallSquirrel

Please keep the Air Bud references coming!

Axel H.

I don’t think anyone is making anything up but I do wonder to what extent some chronic illnesses have psychosomatic causes. Any time someone brings up psychosomatic illness, the response is always “but I’m not faking!” Psychosomatic doesn’t mean it’s fake or “all in your head”. It means that there may be some kind of mental cause for physical symptoms. But unfortunately it seems to be something that just isn’t explored. A lot of times it seems to be the case that physical, pathogenic causes for these symptoms can’t be identified. It doesn’t mean they’re fake. But it might mean the cause lies elsewhere. But also not really surprised to hear them talk like that about this kind of thing given all their rhetoric on Havana syndrome, another illness that may be psychosomatic (again, not “imaginary” symptoms, but real symptoms not caused by some kind of sonic wave device). Some studies indicate that stress and anxiety and other mental issues make someone more likely to develop long COVID. I’m just saying we can’t discount a mental factor here. Some chronic illnesses like “chronic Lyme disease” are completely undemonstrated and have no known connection to pathogenic illness. I still don’t think it’s a matter of faking or imagining, but what are the chances that a mental cause will be treated when to even suggest a mental cause is seen as condescending and undermining the patient?

parker

My favorite aspect of this show is seeing the commenters who think they aren't pathetic and don't see why Chapo don't instantly respect them for hitting the subscribe button

David

What if the frothing Ye nerds get kept in a sandbox for malware where they can be provoked and studied in an entirely virtual echo chamber where they live out tortured, repetitive docile existences screaming at each other while not busting? But in reality they’re all tied to dentist chairs shitting into a colostomy bag like the guy from the end of Brazil while hooked into the sandbox-matrix using beta-test vr headsets from meta.

etienne

they wanna be redpilled so bad but im taking their ass back to the human battery farm call that The Yetrix

justdave

Both should be outlawed

justdave

Respect, like those little hearts, is earned

C. Ries

Guy shitting into colostomy bag from Brazil? Bolsonaro?

William

Thinking they got to second on an error for this one, probably 4.0/5. Felix and Will were good, Matt kinda eh. The different topics will clip well and have some re-listenability. Even with such a big drop like rod at the end, vibe feels a bit off overall

orc

We need a Chapo newsletter on Semafor

orc

Technically you’re not supposed to eat shrimp if there are alternatives but most Asian Muslims don’t care

orc

Love the Steve Scalise jokes actually, also excited for the Brazilian Jan 6 coverage next week

Alal Alal

Correct, dems and generic libs never want to challenge party power for any concessions at all. Now is never the time for any of that. Instead we get effectively no progressive representation in congress, and the libs act like that should be considered normal. Mind your manners!

Alal Alal

This is funny and all but the progressives in congress should be demanding concessions the way that these repubs are.

Hector Jaime

Maybe Rod should invite Matt Sclapp to Hungary
