Yeah, having grown up in MD, Chris Van Hollen's tenacity on the Shireen investigation has been shocking to me, since he's otherwise been a replacement-level beltway dem for 20 years (with extremely spooky parents as well). I have heard the possibility raised that he's just a catspaw for the administration here, who want to give Bibi and AIPAC a rap on the nose for going so hard for the Republicans but can't have it come from them directly.

Informativ episode. Ten years ago I went to Israel and the westbank with 4 higschool friends (two are jewish one has egyptian parents) we stayed at a kibbutz near gaza, and in friends appartement in jerusalem, visited ramallah betlehem etc. So not the average tourist expirence. In some way I got a small glimps into what this "country" is like. I saw a man hit a black boy with his car(completly the drivers fault) and then him beating up the boys dad while the police watched. A group of young men blocking the arab gate to the temple mount chanting about killing all the arabs. And that was nothing compared to what we saw on the westbank. Truly the most vile country, in which the decent people are a small shrinking minority.

it may sound weird to people that palestine's government relies on israel but it's also colonialism 101 to have that strata of society under the dominator's control. British Raj, Bureau of Indian Affairs, etc etc. Each example is not quite the same but belongs to the same set.

Dude, a close friend went on Birthright when we were teenagers (~20 yrs ago) and she came back absolutely shaken by the treatment of the Ethiopian Jews. Like, white Israeli guys in their group calling them the n-word, to their faces, in English, in front of the American kids.

There's a really good telegram channel called Resistance News Now or RNN and they have so much on the ground video, they translate statements from major resistance factions, all sorts of stuff. What I find wildest tho is the increasing pace of resistance activity. Almost daily there are counter raids, bombings of police stations, shootouts with the IOF, operations targeting settlers with knives, guns and vehicles- it's incredible to see because otherwise you will hear NOTHING about any of it on the news.
