I’ve watched Yellowstone. It really is a right wing fantasy show. It has all the things that they have wet dreams about: The virtues of family business, good guys with guns, and plenty of owning the libs with the characters of John Dutton and his daughter. Plus add even more ridiculous shootouts than Sons of Anarchy where guys get lit up by automatic weapons and live. It fits the conservative mind so well, because it has almost no joy whatsoever, and the characters carry on tradition just because. It is like Dallas a very prime time soap. I think the production of the show is brilliant by Taylor Sheridan though. I think he’s actually middle of the road politically, but he recognized there was a huge market for conservative tv and he made a prestige show for them which has made him millions.

from my initial estimation, I would posit that the Peru story is un-fun to discuss, whereas the Morales thing was pretty fun you have to take them at least a little seriously when they say chapo is an entertainment product

Bryan mentioned it, but Chapo needs to do an Animal Kingdom episode. Every character in that show is a complete asshole, a morally reprehensible piece of shit, or both. And they do elaborate heists all the time. It rules. Sadly, the ending was kinda meh, imo.

I moved to the US in 1989, to the DC area, and one of my first formative American experiences was listening to the Greaseman on morning drive time radio every single day on the way to the Metro stop. The first bar featured in Bar Rescue was in my home town, it was called Rack’s after the remodelling. A stabbing occurred there in 2018 and then in 2019 someone burned it down. It’s still an empty lot and concrete slab as of today.

I'm always surprised by how few people are Invincible-pilled. Is it because it's animated? Maybe it's been marketed more to anime fans, there seems to be some crossover there. The source material is really excellent though, so I think it's only a matter of time before it catches on among wider groups of people.

there was a notorious Bar Rescue fuckup in Silver Spring, MD of a place called Piratz Tavern. It was pirate-themed & the owners thought they would "rescue" it to be a nicer pirate-themed bar but instead they ditched the theme and renamed it Corporate Bar and Grill. The owners hated it so much they paid to turn it back into a pirate bar just a few weeks later.

I’m disappointed that chapo hasn’t done a deeper dive into Yellowstone. I haven’t seen it, but so many people watch it that it’s worth another excruciating look. Just wish someone else would do it for me. My guess is that they don’t want to dive deep into it because it actually reveals a ton of depressing shit about the people who made and love the show. Like making the polar opposite show to Deadwood, which should depict a more hopeful America, and saying this is the America you love, take it piggy. A show made for people who willingly choose to buy jeeps.

It is honestly surprising how everyone in America knows jeeps are the iphones of cars yet they still sell hundreds of thousands of vehicles to hapless idiots who don't really need forty tools to change a light bulb. You can say a lot about bmw but usually you only need two tools per task not an entire shop. Like iPhones I get because there disposable but jeeps are fucking cars you can't just get rid of a jeep when it needs a repair that's 1/10 of it's cost.
