Three weeks after my beautiful tuxedo cat Luna died my mom and I were running errands and I suddenly had the urge to go inside PetSmart next to her mailbox where they have shelter cats just to be around feline energy again. The summer before Game of Thrones ended and I had told many friends my next cat would be a female orange tabby named Sansa after Sansa Stark. Female orange tabbies are rare and I had a sick cat and no interest in getting another one at that point anyway. But that day we went into PetSmart after losing Luna immediately this beautiful young orange tabby made eye contact and started meowing at us. We asked the girl who worked there to open the cage and immediately she was cuddling up to us like she already knew who we were. It felt too soon to get another cat but we just couldn’t leave her there. Turned out she’d been in the city shelter for five months before she came to PetSmart. She was ‘aggressive’ and no one wanted her. I adopted her that day and she was one of the best things that ever happened to me. I truly believe Luna sent her to me and communicated to her that we were coming for her. I tell this story because even though it’s so soon and the wound is so raw, Marty may be sending Will a new friend who needs him.

Last night, I told my wife about Marty and we listened together to your recounting of his passing and the tuxedo cat running by you at the exact moment you spoke of him. We both love cats and hers passed away a few months ago after 17 years. And then this morning we visited my mom and she gave my wife a pin, that, no joke, was a painting of a cat in a tuxedo and on the back, this sounds nuts as I write it, was a name in black paint. It was Marty. If that’s not Marty speaking from the beyond I don’t what is. I’ll happily send the pin to you. (I’m not a whacko, I’m a professor at MSU)
