Greetings Filmaholics,

As you've probably noticed, today we put out the first episode of our new mini-series, Movie Mindset. Each week, your hosts Will Menaker and Hesse Deni will present you a group of films that unveil some aspect of the mysteries of Movie Mindset, bringing you one step closer to embracing the true reality-shifting possibilities of the movies.

So, just want to lay out some details here. Just like our other mini-series, the first episode is free and available on all platforms. Subsequent episodes will be available exclusively here on Patreon, and will be coming out for the next 9 weeks on Wednesday mornings. We're releasing the schedule for the first 5 eps now so you can watch along if you'd like to. We'll release the schedule for the second 5 eps sometime before the Altman episode on 5/24.

We look forward to seeing those who can make it at the Roxy Cinema in NYC tonight for our screenings of John Carpenter's In The Mouth Of Madness at 7pm and 9:30 pm!

Oh, and regular Patreon episodes of Chapo will of course continue through this, this week's premium show will be out tomorrow afternoon.

Happy Watching & Listening!

2026-09-09 10:00 Nashville and McCabe & Mrs. Miller are such absurdly top tier masterpieces. Altman is such a fucking GOAT.

Ben Zaretsky

The verhoeven stans will not be ignored (Actually I like you guys talking about him more than the movies)

chapotraphouse

yes, we're recording the intros/talkbacks and will release that as a little bonus for this series.

Stephen David Miller

Love the excuse to finally catch up on two Billy Wilder classics! (And that Altman ep is going to be incredible: two all-timers)

Justin Secor

I’m happy with the Wilder Ep, but man… Ace In The Hole? His best movie, imo

Andrew Crowley

Really stoked for the Altman episode, I’ve wanted to hear the Chapo take on Nashville for ages!

Poseylock Jimmismits

Ohh definitely into Angel Heart and Sunset Boulevard, but for Wilder The Lost Weekend would have also been awesome This is good podcasting tho 😎

Mike Mariano

Sadly, The Invasion starring Nicole Kidman just doesn’t have enough movie mindset to make the 5/17 episode.

JoJo Sliwa

Kubrick maybe? The Eyes Wide Shut ep is classic. Would you consider doing an episode on Dr. Strangelove x Full Metal Jacket?

Kyle Thurow

Chris is the Mike Dean of podcasts

Of course

I don't watch a lot of movies, but it's considered to be today's measure of literacy. So, Chapo's been my Cliffsnotes since I joined back slightly before the 300 episode. (That's the episode about "300", not the 300th episode.) Which, if you haven't heard it, is worth a listen.

Ozzie

Awesome! I was hoping for Angel Heart when you mentioned Rourke for the second episode.

Ed Schell

Hope you guys have fun

Adam Bojak

Thank you so much - that movie has been a favorite of mine since it came out, grossly underrated.

Djp2500

cover the long goodbye or we riot

Dru Heff

This is realllllly good. Looking forward to future episodes.

Shauna Seroquel

Isn't she the co-hostess? Or are you using On Cinema Tim Heidecker rules? 😹

Brian

Hello fellow listeners. I’ve been listening to podcasts since 2012. I know Chapo is a god. Movie Mjndset got me subscribe. Dead and lovin’ it. Cheers

etienne

can't wait for felix's miniseries of doing a MMA podcast with a left wing bent

Dan

More "Time for my Stories"?

JD

Long Goodbye, California Split, 3 Women, Buffalo Bill@the Indians...

Shauna Seroquel

California Split is the mumblecore bible! 💕💕💕

Amanda LaMountain

So this is a separate project that must be subscribed to on Patreon? Not complaining, just clarifying.

Michael Landreth

It’s posted on the regular CTH patreon feed but you must be a patreon subscriber to get access. If you’re already a patreon subscriber you’re good, you’ll get all episodes of Movie Mindset.

Poppy Chulo

Oh fuck yeah McCabe and Mrs Miller is fantastic! I can't wait for that. If you guys haven't watched it yet check it out. Turn the subtitles on because the audio isn't great on any copy. Also double indemnity and angel heart! I'm gonna bu-u-u-u-u-u-u-ussssssst....

Poppy Chulo

McCabe and Mrs Miller is one of my top 3 favorite westerns.

W

MAKE CLAIRE PENIS FULL TIME CHAPO

George Lochinski

Nashville is my fav Altman but if there was a movie made to do a deep-dive double feature w McCabe, its Long Goodbye

Iain Hood

I actually cannot wait for the Billy Wilder episode, so if I could get that now that would be great.

K H

I'm pretty sure Rourke would go on the show. Don't know if you'd want him there.

Zach H.

The next season needs a Bayhem episode: The Rock and Armageddon

Penny

I love Hesse, We all love Hesse.

Munir hakim

Hell yeah. Angel heart rocks. 14 me really liked it for titty reasons

2026-09-09 10:00 Ok guys, this is a great idea and I'm sure this Movie Mindset mini-series will reveal a lot of new and interesting things from the world of cinema to us.

Mehhh, I pay for the comedic skewering of politics, not movie critique...at least hell on earth was an interesting topic...pass

Marcus

Will's shirt is 🔥🔥🔥

NakedAlice

Definitely encouraging news from you! Thank you for your hard work and your podcasts...How sad that I can't be at the Roxy Cinema in NYC

T

This is a bonus podcast in addition to the regular two weekly episodes, like Hell on Earth was.

etienne

I'm gonna be looking forward to the Mickey Rourke episode to figure out what the fuck is supposed to be the deal with that guy because the only movie I saw with him is The Wrestler which was a stylistic exercise of High Cringe

Poppy Chulo

Check out "Angel Heart" and "The Pope of Greenwich Village" The man could act at one time. In the 80's at least.

Poppy Chulo

You think we don't know what you're doing?

etienne

that's very thoughtful of you but The Wrestler was so boring that I stopped watching movies. I only listen to recap pods

Jessica Rios

So is this the Patreon episode this week? Ugh. I don’t even watch movies. If you want to do the movie thing it should be separate. This is BS

Jessica Rios

Okay so where is the Thursday episode?

Shauna Seroquel

Wow lots of people need to speak to the manager this week! 😹😹

Dustin Nelson

Damn they would be 80% movies I haven't seen yet. Definitely showing up for Invasion though, horror genre specialist here

Dustin Nelson

Angel Heart was pretty cool if a little disorienting

Brandon Tillett

I hope movie review isn't going to be the Patreon episode of the week moving forward. Do you if you want to make a separate movie review podcast, but aren't there already a million of those? Much prefer hearing all the boys discuss current events.

Poppy Chulo

No it's separate. This has actually turned out to be a content rich week even with the feminist cruise ship episode.

gibbypatrol

Hey everyone! This guy doesn’t understand what a mini series is!!

gibbypatrol

Hey everyone! This guy doesn’t know what a mini series is!

etienne

opening up a news paper at a random page and getting insanely mad at the baseball box score section

Nate Bridges

Will with the shirt that Sam Neil wears from In The Mouth of Madness. A+ touch

Myrmec

Looked it up, there are 12 US states with higher per capita murder rates than Mexico City.

TentInQuarantine0

I just saw the movies for the next ep, holy shit, Barfly, what an amazing flick, Angel Heart was great, too. I hope you talk about Hard Times or Withnail and I.

TentInQuarantine0

I just watched both Angel Heart and Barfly, I really just knew him from Iron Man II and Sin City, but he's amazing in these. And he is not really identifiable as having the same face. Like the difference between Sean Patrick Flanery in Boondock Saints and Sean Patrcik Flanery in Boondock Saints 2.

Marcus

You have the shirt? Where from?

TentInQuarantine0

No, I just got the reference. I would buy some scrubs and a sharpie if I wanted that shirt.

William Evans

I absolutely love this idea but maybe next time you guys can choose movies that are actually available to watch. Can’t find Barfly anywhere.

HarshMalarkey

Tony Scott walked so Paul Greengrass can crawl

D M

I didnt think i would be particularly interested in this series but you guys did such a good job.

Ok ok

I love this show so much, I hope u do it forever

Zach G

This has been great. A mix of shit I love and shit I'm watching for the first time. Movies truly are magic!
