I was working at a grocery store when this episode premiered. At that time, security could pepper spray shoplifters, if they resisted. Once, I recall a guy trying to steal a full shopping cart of beer. They tackled him and sprayed him in the face. As they were dragging him off, he kept saying he couldn't see and needed some water. Several years later, security wasn't even allowed to touch a shoplifter.

Randy banging his head into the china is iconic as hell. NAWRRRR! Randy leaving his family and friends with a ...'llseeyuh! And here we have the origin of Randy being super dramatic about something specific. See: Wall-Mart, Losing Edge, Bloody Mary, in each case Randy characteristically blowing something way out of proportion. Or Fantastic Easter Special, More Crap, and Pinewood Derby, where he takes something extremely serious that would otherwise seem silly. "And THAT, Stan, is why you can't go to the mall." Randy's flare for melodrama is one of the signature most enduringly charming aspects of his character. Same as for Cartman, but it strikes differently when it is an adult freaking out about something not-so-serious, and Randy has settled into a role as one of the leading voices in the townspeople's overreaction to the episode's crisis. See: Two Days Before The Day After Tomorrow, Over Logging, Margaritaville. I've basically just cited a list of the Randy episodes from the golden age, and they all fall into the category that Fingerbang establishes. Straight to S-tier! For the song alone... Bang bang-bang!
