Hello! Here is the final part of this series, working on feathers! They come up pretty often so thought we could go into detail.

Cheers!

How to Paint Feathers - Sceotend Bust Part 3

Another great video Andy (and the bad day/ impatience thing is sooooo relatable! 😂 There’s only so much creative energy in your cup at any given time and when it’s run out, you have to replenish it by doing something else. At least, that’s what one of my other art teachers says 🤓). The series as a whole has been fab and I really appreciate all the analysis you do, alongside a very honest appraisal of both the process and the outcome - honestly this is great teaching. Hope you enjoy the next project and don’t feel burnt out by it. One question that this video did raise for me: how would you paint something iridescent that had a very high shine? Would you add more and/ or brighter highlights, or stoop to using gloss varnish (I’ve got a Dark Souls Gaping Dragon mini and I don’t know where to start)? Cheers!

The blend theory, technical application and mindset in the series is great

The way in which you present these topics is just excellent. I love how deeply you analyze the subject, the way you present it in Photoshop and most of all how you lay out your thought process. I don’t mind the occasional ramble tbh though I do think they’ve occurred less often in the last couple of months. 😁 I was wondering if you curate your reference images to have similar lighting conditions and adjust them to have similar exposure values? I imagine this would help unify things even more when selecting paints / values for the mini. I’m not using references much other than pulling up a photo of a mini on my phone every now and then but I feel like it’s something I should do a lot more to improve my painting. Quick tip for viewing multiple references in context references on the computer: at work we use a free tool called PureRef. It’s available for Windows, Mac and Linux, is very easy to use and has a wonderfully low key interface that doesn’t distract.

Amazing work Andy, I am enamoured by this bust. For all the paints in this video, will there be equivalents in your range?
